Chapter 706
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 706
The topic of conservation seemed to have deviated. The expressions on her colleaguesâ faces were serious. They did not seem to be joking.
Larissa suddenly felt as it she was sitting on pins and needles. Since sheâd entered the Winston Hotel she had been working under Allen. He was only a few years older than her. Besides, he was a single father with a son as well.
Apart from work, they had other topics in common.
In comparison to other colleagues, they had more to talk about. Still there was nothing more between them.
Larissa had nothing but awe, respect, and gratitude for Allen. She didnât have any romantic feelings toward him. Larissa assumed that Allen thought the same of her, but things seemed to be different
She didnât dare to meet Allenâs gaze and chuckled to stop the others from stiming up a fuss.
âYou guys, stop cracking jokes about Allen and me. Donât you know how it is between the both of us?
Weâre just good friends and colleagues.â
The rest of them only smirked in response and ignored her denial.
Unable to refute them, Larissa felt a lump in her throat that was suffocating her.
Allenâs face darkened when he saw Larissaâs face completely red either from the heat or from anxiety.
âLetâs order,â he said, flipping the menu. Most of the people at the table had worked with Allen long enough to know from his tone that he was in a bad mood.
Sheepishly, all of them shut up and locked down at the menu quietly.
Because of this unpleasant incident, the farewell dinner ended in an awkward manner.
Everyone ate quietly at the table and murmured in low voices.
The conversation at the table was mainly to pass around utensils or ketchup.
Larissa tried her best to keep her spirits up until the end of the dinner.
No one had any intention of prolonging the dinner.
They said their goodbyes and fled the scene as fast as they could.
In the end, only Larissa, Lewis, and Allen were left.
Looking at Larissa, Allen seemed hesitant to speak with Lewis present.
Before leaving, he said to her, âText me when you reach home.â
Larissa replied reluctantly. âAlright.â
After they were done with the events for the day. Lewis sent Larissa back to the hospital.
During the journey back. Lewis did not hold back and remarked, âYour superior is interested in you romantically.â
When they met, Lewis already guessed that this was the case when Allen suddenly appeared hostile to him. His suspicions were confirmed when the other colleagues made a fuss about them being together.
Larissa lightened her grip on the seatbelt. She was reluctant to talk about this.
âI never expected that he would be interested in me,â she said.
it was probably because Allen had never expressed his Interest explicitly. In addition, she never allowed her thoughts to stray too far.
Larissa had no inking about Allenâs romantic feelings toward her before this.
Lewis sighed in resignation. Larissa had always been slow in relationships.
1/2
making his advances.
âNow that youâve resigned, you wonât have anything to do with him any longer. Itâs not worth losing sleep over whether he likes you or not.â
âIâm not worried about it. Itâs just that. I couldnât accept itâ Larissa looked out of the window.
Lewis patted her head and fell silent.
After a while, a message came in.
It was from Allen.
When she saw the sender, Larissa had no urge to open the message. Still more messages came in when there was no reply liom her for a
long time.
Larissas phone vibrated from the continuous incoming messages.
In the silent car, the vibrations of her phone were quite jarring in contrast.
Lewis turned around and asked, âWho is it?â
Larissa replied helplessly. âItâs Allen.â
Lewâs understood Immediately and said, âYou should reply to him. Otherwise, heâs just going to continue messaging you.â
Pursing her lips. Larissa opened the messages from Allen. She had just changed a new number.
Apart from close trends and family, Allen was the only one who knew her number since he had asked for it just this morning.
In her inbox, there were only Allenâs messages, apart from some spam messages from the operator.
âIâm very sorry. They are just joking around, donât be mad.â
âAre you still angry?â
âIâm really very sorry.â
âIf youâre free, can we meet up and tak someday?
âLarissa? Is this Larissa?
