Chapter 689
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 689
Seeing the way she suddenly guarded hersell, Kevanâs heart ached for her. It was so strong that it overpowered the sadness he felt at her distrust of him,
âYou can depend on me in the future,â he said, âLet me take care of Asterâs safely.â Her weak shoulders should not need to bear such a thing.
Larissa froze. She suddenly felt like crying again, and she looked down to hide her teary eyes.
âYouâve talked things out with Mr. Rogers?â Lewis brought in a plate of peeled apples. He gave her one that had not yet turned brown.
Larissa bil into it, and the sweet apple juice sprayed out. They stained the white sheets.
âI guess so,â she mumbled as she chewed the apple.
The truth was, she had a lot of questions in her mind. Such as, why let her get pregnant with his child?
Why was he so cruel to Ruby? And what on earth cid he feel for her right now?
Without the âmemory loss,â all the things that made sense belore now did not. But she could not have asked any of these questions when things were so bad between them earlier.
âWhat plans do you have now? Lewis asked her. His expression was serious, so he did not ask this randomly. Naturally, Larissa could not just wave him off by throwing in an excuse.
Larissaâs mind was in a complete mess, though. There was too much information that she had yet to process yet. âWeâll talk about it after we go back.â
She had to talk to Wendy. She would not be able to figure things out on her own. It was not like Kevan demanded anything from her, so she did not need to struggle over that. Just stick to the original plan.
âHuh?â Lewis was confused by her answer. âWhat are you saying?â
When he asked that, Larissa was also confused. âWhat are YOU saying?â
They stared at each other in confusion for a bit Lewis then spoke. âDidnât Mr. Rogers come to find you about Janine Levange?â
Janine Levange was Travis Hardyâs biological mother and Larissaâs first mother-in-law.
âHuh?â Larissa was shocked. She had indeed lorgolten about this.
Seeing her this way, Lewis knew that Kevan had not mentioned this at all. He suddenly felt like his head hurt-Honestly, why is this Mr. Rogers so unreliable at such an important time?
âWhat did he talk to you about then?â
Larissa bit her apple again. âNothing much.â Since Lewis did not know, she had no reason to tell him about it. The truth was, she did not know how she was going to tell Lewis either.
Lewis stared at her in confusion for a very long time, but he managed to stop himsell from asking further.
*So, Janine Levange. How do you plan to deal with her?â He went back to the original topic.
âJust deal with her the way she was meant to be dealt with.â Larissa could not care less about anything the Hardys started. âIâm sure the police and the hotel will be able to decide for themselves.â
Lewis did not agree with her thoughts, though.
Janineâs actions could only be considered âguest harassment,â and she could not be punished by the law. The most that could happen was for her to come and apologize to Larissa and have them settle things privately. As for the hotel, they would probably just fire her. But this did not prevent her from searching for jobs in the future.
Such punishments were too light, and they meant nothing for shameless people like Janine.
