Chapter 615
Sweet Subterfuge
Because Kevan was eager to see Larissa, he didnât bother adjusting to the time difference. After a quick shower, he headed straight to the hospital where Lewis was waiting for him at the entrance.
It had been several months since they had last seen each other, but Lewis hadnât changed much. He still had that serious and business- like demeanor, but his gaze had softened a bit.
They exchanged greetings. Kevan wasted no time in asking, âHowâs Larissa doing?â
âSheâs recovering well. She can walk on her own now.â Lewis replied.
Larissa received more attentive care than before being in Garyâs territory, leaving her with little to worry about. Naturally, her health was improving day by day, though the only downside was that she had gained some weight due to the lack of exercise. Kevan noticed this the moment he saw her.
Compared to the last time he saw her, she looked healthier and fuller. She was no longer the frail skeletal woman heâd known, Kevanâs heart eased, but at the same time, there was a twinge of bitterness-she could thrive even without him by her side.
As he walked in, she was being assisted by a caretaker, practicing her walking. She was unaware that Kevan was coming and thought it was Gary who opened the door.
âYour meeting ended early today?â she asked. As she lifted her head and smiled, she locked eyes with a pair of deep eyes. She was momentarily stunned.
Kevan smiled as he took a few strides to her side, gesturing for the caregiver to let him take over the support.
The sensation of his touch on her arm felt so real that she finally regained her composure. She licked her lips and asked in a slightly uneasy manner. âWhy are you here?
to talk to Uncle Gary about something, Kevan answered.
âI came to see you and Aster. Also, I need to talk to Uncle Larissaâs heart started to race involuntarily, and her cheeks flushed slightly. She sat down at the edge of the bed and pointed to the couch opposite her before saying. âTake a seat.â
However, he chose to sit right next to her. His eyes were fixated on her as if he couldnât get enough of looking at her. These few months were insignificant compared to the six years without her, but his yearning for her far surpassed that time, and now, it overflowed.
Larissa blushed even more under his intense gaze, feeling unsure of where to put her hand and feet.
She awkwardly smoothed out her hair and tried to break the silence. âHas Lana been found yet?â
Since returning to Aldovia. Gary no longer restricted her from using her phone. She had access to the Internet and was aware of almost everything happening back home.
âYeah,â Kevan nodded.
âWhat will happen to the case then?â
âWe can only proceed if we find Lana. But itâs also possible that sheâs no longer with us.â Kevanâs tone remained calm. âThis outcome is probably the best for you and her.
Larissa had already heard about the turmoil in the Seymour family. Other than feeling that they got what they deserved, she didnât have many other thoughts-Gary was so worried that she would leel guilty about what had transpired.
âThatâs true.â She recalled Lanaâs hysterical appearance at Rolandâs memorial and the m ental health evaluation provided by the Seymour family.
Now that the family was facing such a huge crisis-Xavier and Yvelle couldnât even protect themselves, let alone Lana-Lanaâs life would still be challenging if she survived.
