Chapter 557
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 557
Should she let him in? Larissa questioned herself as well. She didnât want to see him-or rather, she didnât want to see anyone. All she
wanted was sc me peace and solitude. However, she couldnât turn Gary away. Among his various roles, the one that mattered to her the most was his status as a valued quest at the Winston Hotel
âSure.â She nodded.
After her assistant left, she picked up the mouse from the ground. The battery, along with the cover, had been knocked ofL and there was even a cr ack on its surface. Frustrated, she muttered under her breath and threw everything she was holding into the trash bin.
The door was opened once again. Gary and Lewis entered her office, one after another. She wasnât prepared m entally when she caught sight of Gary. So, her body froze, and her heartbeat involuntarily quickened. She lowered her head intentionally, avoiding eye contact with Gary. After taking a deep breath, she mustered a faint smile and asked, âIs there anything I can help you with, Mr. Logan?â
Gary observed her silently. His gaze was not intense but was impossible to ignore. âIâve concluded the business with Soaring Corporation and have to return to Aldavia to handle some matters.â
âOh?â Larissa fell a bit flustered. She had just found out that he was her biological father, and they hadnât even acknowledged each other yet. And now, in the blink of an eye, they were going to part ways again. Naturally, she didnât want him to go, but she couldnât find the
words to keep him. More importantly, she lacked a valid reason to do so.
Regardless of whether Gary had been made aware of her existence or not, Yvette had made it clear just moments ago, but he showed no intention of acknowledging her.
The painful experiences from her childhood made her crave familial love, yet she didnât dare to hope for it.
So, she decided to leave the initiative in his hands. Il he wanted to pretend not to know, she would never shatter that illusion.
âOkay.â She lorced herself to calm down and asked in a professional tone. âWhen are you leaving? Do you need me to arrange a car to take you to the airport?
âI leave early tomorrow morning. Thereâs no need for a car. But tonight â would you be free to have dinner with me? He looked at her with anticipation in his eyes.
âIt would be my pleasure.â She smiled, although it lelt a bit forced. He had already noticed something was amiss with her, but he didnât dwell on it, thinking it was simply Yvelleâs disturbance that put her in a bad mood.
âI ran into your aunt at the elevator earlier, he caulicusly brought it up.
It took her a few seconds to realize he was referring to Yvette. âOh, yeah.â Her smile grew more strained as she pretended she hadnât let her office. âShe didnât cause any trouble in front of you did she?â
Gary didnât want to worry Larissa, so he casually replied, âNo, she didnâtâ
âThatâs good.â She played along, not wanting to expose his lie
Gary seemed to recall something. âOh, by the way. Is your aunt planning to make a comeback? I remember seeing it on the news.â
âYeahâ she simply replied, although she added inwardly. âBut whether or not she can is another question.â
âItâs not easy to make a comeback at her age.â Garyâs eyes revealed sympathy for Yvetle. âMarrying the wrong man led to this. So. Ms. Seymour, you must keep your eyes wide open. Il youâre unsure, let me help you make any decisions,â he eamestly said.
A thought crossed her mind, and she blurted out, âYou sound just like my dad.â
