Chapter 544
Sweet Subterfuge
This was the first time that Larissa had ever heard of Yvetteâs past.
It was not her fault for being illâinformed. The truth was, the first time she knew that Yvette was once a famous celebrity was during her second year in high school. She went to the teacherâs office to get the test papers at noon when she heard a couple of teachers talking and lamenting about it.
Technology was not as advanced then as it was today, Computers were still luxurious items to the average family, and phones could only be used to call and text. Television and the news were the only two ways that people could get information, Yvette had stopped shooting movies for many years, so she was no longer prevalent in the media. The Seymours had never bothered with Larissa, and her peers at the time knew nothing about Yvelle either.
After she had grown up and gotten to use the internet, Larissa never ever looked Yvetle up, probably because she hated her. It was only when some Instagram marketing accounts would periodically put together pictures of ârealâ beauties from the past who did not rely on plastic surgery or Photoshop to look pretty, did Larissa find out about her. Because without fail Yvette would be on the list.
Those who commented on such posts were mostly people who had seen the works produced by these beauties beforeâsome were even young people who had only seen the pictures of said beauties, and their comments were all compliments as well as nostalgia for that bygone era.
Larissa did not know what sort of response to give Emmy, so she just smiled without saying anything.
It was probably because Emmy felt triumphant that she got more excited with her speech as she was feeling good. âMorgan was so cool! Just slammed the phone down!â When she got to this bit, she cackled nonâstop while glancing at Morgan, her voice a little teasing. â tell you this in secret, donât tell anyoneâDonât be fooled by his robust appearance, heâs pretty petty! Heâs held a grudge over Yvette insulting him for several years! And heâs finally gotten back at her!â
Her voice grew louder, and so Morgan, who was next to her, heard every single word that she said.
âHonestly, you â Morgan was a little uncomfortable as his past was exposed, but he could not blow up in front of so many people, so he smiled awkwardly instead.
âDonât be shy!â Emmy patted Morganâs thigh, seemingly comforting yet teasing at the same time. Just in this time period alone, thereâs got to be at least ten directors who rejected Yvette. I heard that there was someone going around telling all production companies to not use Yvette at al Although Larissa was shocked that Yvetteâs popularity was so bad now, she was not too surprised. She had witnessed Yvetteâs snobbery countless times, and the snobbery in the entertainment industry was a thousand times worse than Yvetteâs.
When Yvette was popular and had some influence, all the directors and producers had to be deferential to her even if they hated her. Now that she had tumbled into the abyss and lost all of her status, no one, of course, had to treat her cordially. They were already âmercifulâ enough to her when they did not add insult to injury and kick her further when she was down.
âEveryone still remembers the things that she did! So, serves her right, I say!â Emmy turned to seek Morganâs agreement. âAm I right?â
âThatâs enough. Itâs a happy day today, whyâd you bring her up for?â Morgan waved his hand and had a look of disgust on his face. âWhat a spoilsport!â
Emmy pursed her lips but stopped taking.
Having stayed here for too long, the assistant manager. who was s eyes. Larissa nodded and finished the halfâglass of red wine she had left.
silting across the table, frantically kept sending Larissa hints with his âEmmy, Morgan, enjoy yourselves. I have to go.â
at lor!â Emmy hooked onto her arm. âWeâve still got a part two for the party! Join us!â
Morgan glared at Emmy and yanked her hand off Larissaâs arm. âLarissa sill has work to do, donât cause trouble!â
âHow am I causing trouble?â Emmyâs temper began to flare a little when he chided her. I just want to chat with Larissa for a little while longer, how is that wrong? What, you can chat with Yvette, but I canât chat with Larissa?â
Morganâs glare made his eyes pop out even more, and his lace was redder than bellore.
Larissa never expected things to take such a tum. Emmy had just been bragging about Morganâs dismissiveness of Yvette and was rather proud of it, but now when listening to her voice, it seemed like Morgan and Yvette had something going on.
Sensing the strange atmosphere over here, the banquet gradually quieted down as everyone else cast their gazes of curiosity over to the whirpool of conflict that was churning at the moment.
