Chapter 505
Sweet Subterfuge
While handing out gifts for the guests, Violet intentionally gave Kevan two more gifts to be given to Larissa and Dylan, âThese are for Larissa and Dylan. Since they didnât come to the banquet, take these back for them,â
she said.
The gifts were just tokens of appreciation for guests, and thus were not of much monetary value.
If it were just for Oylan, Kevan would definitely have returned the gifts to Violet.
However, this was another opportunity to meet Larissa.
Kevan accepted the gifts and replied, âAlright.â
After her moming meeting. Larissa went to the hospital Gary was reclining on the bed with his laptop on a foldable table.
Frowning, he seemed immersed in his work, not even noticing Larissaâs entrance.
âMr. Logan,â Larissa called out, Gary looked up, startled.
The next moment his lace broke out into a wide smile.
âOh, youâre here. Have a seat!â Closing his laptop, he pointed to a chair at his bedside.
His enthusiasm exceeded Larissaâs expectations.
She wasnât sure if she was reading too much into it, but there seemed to be a sense of inexplicable fondness in Garyâs eyes whenever he looked at her.
Although he had always been kind to her, this was the first time she felt an emotion like this from another person.
Feeling ill at ease, Larissa avoided his gaze and placed the fruit basket she brought on the bedside table.
âWould you like some fruit?
Gary shook his head. âNo, thank you.â
âOh, alright then.â Larissa replied, sitting down on the chair.
Garyâs gare followed Larissaâs movements, unable to hide the smile in his eyes.
âAre you busy with work today?â he asked.
âNot really.â Larissa liedâshe was never not busy with work.
Gary continued. âLewis mentioned that he went to Old Mr. Rogersâs house yesterday and ran into you.â
His smile faded slightly as he fixed an intense stare on Larissaâs lace.
The reason Gary came to Bartham was to discuss their partnership with Soaring Corporation, Now that the authority figure of Soaring Corporation had passed away, it was only appropriate that he offer his condolences.
Unfortunately, Garyâs deteriorating health did not allow him to leave the hospital, so Lewis went to pay respects on his behall, Who knew that Lewis would have encountered an unexpected acquaintance there?
Larissa knew who Lewis was.
âReally? How come I didnât see him there?â she said in surprise.
There werenât many people present in the main hall, if Larissa had seen Lewis, she would have recognized him.
âWhen he arrived, the funeral service was in a messâprobably because someone caused a scene at that time. Itâs reasonable that you didnât notice him,â Gary explained.
After Yvette and the Seymour family appeared all of her attention was focused on them.
âI heard from Lewis that the person who caused trouble yesterday was a popular actress long ago. Iâm not mistaken, her name starts with a Y.â Gary pretended to not remember Yvetteâs name.
His eyes were glued to Larissaâs face so that he could scrutinize her reaction discreetly.
As expected, Larissaâs expression froze and the smile on her face stiffened.
âYes, her nameâs Yvette, Lowering her head, Larissa mumbled in a soft voice.
Gary continued, âAre you related to Yvette? Your name was mentioned when they caused the commotion yesterday.â
Perhaps feeling that his probing question sounded inappropriate, he added. âDonât get me wrong. Iâm not trying to pry into your private life. However, Lewis told me that they showed you attitude, and it seems like they treated you poorly. If you face any trouble, come to me and I will help you resolve h.â
Garyâs concern didnât seem out of place, so Larissa wasnât suspicious at all.
To ease his mind, she said. âYvette is my aunt and she raised me. Thereâs no conflict between us, so she wonât cause any trouble for me.â
