Chapter 499
Sweet Subterfuge
Aster fidgeted and asked, âMommy, is Uncle Kevan feeling better?â
âI guess.â Larissa was not too sure, but Kevan was sleeping well, and he did not say anything crazy. He had to feel much better now.
âYou guess?â Aster was not satisfied with her answer and he scolded her with a serious demeanor which was not quite fitting for his age.â Mommy, how could you be so irresponsible?â
Larissa raised an eyebrow. âWhat?
Aster pushed her. âHurry and go take care of Uncle Kevan! What if he relapses or something? I can sleep on my own, I donât need you to sleep with me!
âWhat are you talking about?â Larissa closed her eyes and yawned widely. âIâm tired. If youâre so worried about your Uncle Kevan, feel free to go over and take care of him yourself.â
Aster froze for one second before he escaped from her arms. Larissa squinted at him and saw him get out of bed from the other side.
âIâm going to stay with Uncle Kevan! He ran out of the bedroom in his slippers, pitterâpattering across the space.
Kevan thought Larissa had returned when he heard the sound of the door opening. He did not open his eyes and stayed still, but he listened carefully.
But the personâs footsteps were so much more hurried compared to Larissaâs. Soon, the side of the bed dipped, and a faint milky smell watted into Kevanâs nose.
This was the smell of Asterâs body wash, which was specifically meant for kids. He wiggled underneath Kevanâs covers and into his arms. hugging him. His soft little body was a bit cold. Afraid that he might get sick, Kevan quickly hugged him back Aster looked up and stared at him seriously. The more he looked, the more satisfied he was. Uncle Kevan was handsome, and he was good to him and his mommy. Besides his mommy did not seem to be entirely uninterested in him.
Sensing the scorching gaze fixed on his face, Kevan could not stop himself from opening his eyes. The moment he locked eyes with Aster, he saw the bright hope in his eyes.
Kevan was stunned.
âAster?â He pretended to have just woken up. Having been caught in the act, Aster was a bit bashful.
But soon, he was staring openly at Kevan again, and he asked. âUncle Kevan, are you feeling better now?â
Kevan smiled and said. âMuch better, yes.â
âOh Aster grinned, his eyes scrunching up from his joy. âMommy is really worried about you, so she asked me to stay with you, solcan take care of you.â
Kevan doubted his words. Based on his understanding of Larissa, she would never let a child take care of a sick person. This kid was honestly ingenious indeed. He kept trying to matchmake him and Larissa these days. Kevan was happy to see it come to fruition, so he naturally would not expose the kid.
âReally?â He went with what Aster said. âWell, thank you for your hard work.â
âNo way! Itâs not hard at all Aster hugged Kevan tighter. âI like Uncle Kevan. My mommy also likes Uncle Kevan. Weâre taking care of you willingly, so we donât think itâs hard work.â
Even though he knew Aster was only consoling him, Kevanâs heart fell warm anyway.
âYour mommy likes me too?â he deliberately asked.
âOf course!â Aster replied with certainly. âMy mommy has never been so nice to other uncles!â
His words gave Kevan cause to be on alert.
âThere are other uncles?â
Kevan prodded with unease. âAre there any of your mommyâs colleagues who are pursuing her?â
