Chapter 403
Sweet Subterfuge
Their enthusiastic greetings startled Larissa, causing her to develop a splitting headache.
Aster clung to Larissaâs clothes, shrinking back into the car behind her.
With a polite smile, Larissa nodded to them in acknowledgment.
âHello, everyone.â
Maintaining her aloof demeanor, she helped Aster out of the car and entered the hotel amidst the onlookers curious gazes.
âDo we have a play area for children in the hotel?â she asked the assistant manager beside her.
âYes, we do.â He nodded and turned to Aster. âShall I have someone escort the young man to the childrenâs play area?â
Larissa didnât hesitate. âYes, please â
The assistant manager called over a lobby attendant. âTake the general managerâs son to the childrenâs play area and take good care of him. Make sure he doesnât get hurt, understand?â
The attendant replied nervously, âYes, I understand.â
Larissa handed Aster over to the attendant and squatted down to his level. âHave a good time playing in the childrenâs play area. Call me if you need anything Aster had a phone inside his teddy bear backpack. He knew how to operate it as he had been using it ever since he started kindergarten, Aster nodded obediently. âOkay.â
He followed the attendant and walked away without making a fuss.
The Winston Hotel was a fiveâstar hotel, fully equipped with all kinds of facilities. The childrenâs play area was free for hotel guests and took up an entire floor, comparable to those in shopping malls.
Aster played on the slides for some time and then with building blocks.
After the goâkart tracks were open, he watched enviously on the sidelines as other children and their parents raced around the tracks.
âDo you want to play?â Aster heard a cheerful voice coming from above.
Aster looked up, his eyes widening in confusion. âUncle Dylan? Why are you here?â
Dylan placed his hands on his knees and bent down.
âI happened to pass by outside and saw you standing there. You seemed eager to try.â
He glanced at the goâkarts zooming by. âIf you are willing, I can play with you. What do you think?â
Asterâs eyes shone with excitement, but he hesitated when he remembered his mother and godmotherâs advice. They had warned him countless times that he shouldnât talk to strangers nor accept anything given by them.
However, Uncle Dylan wasnât considered a stranger, right?
âAre you my momâs friend?â he asked Dylan.
Aster vaguely remembered hearing him mention âfriendâ to his mother yesterday âWho is your mom?â Dylan asked deliberately.
Since Larissa hadnât coordinated their stories in advance, Aster gave an honest answer. âMy mom is Larissa! The woman who was with me yesterday!â
Dylan pretended to exclaim in surprise and explained to Aster, âOh! I used to be very good friends with your mother. However, after she went elsewhere, our relationship wasnât as good as before.â
âOh, I see!â Aster caught on quickly. âItâs the same with Toby! Toby was my best friend in kindergarten.
However, after he moved to Manleigh, he never called me againâ
He pouted, seemingly a little disappointed Dylan gently patted Asterâs head, comforting him, âDonât be sad. You can still be friends with Toby in the future, just like your mom and me!â
âIs it true?â Aster blinked innocently at Dylan.
âOf course itâs true!â Dylan smiled sincerely. âSo now, do you want to play with me?â
Aster completely believed that Dylan was a friend of his mom.
âYes!â Without hesitation, he pulled Dylanâs hand and dragged him towards the goâkart tracks.
Dylan drove him around the goâkart tracks for almost half an hour until Aster complained that he felt dizzy.
They found a place to sit down and rest.
Dylan opened a bottle of mineral water and handed it to Aster.
âBy the way.â Dylan asked casually, âdid you go on a business trip with your mom and leave your dad alone at home?â
