Chapter 357
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissaâs answer caused Kevanâs heart to sink into his stomach, He had dared to hold on to some hope, wishing that she would say a few words to convince him otherwise. But reality dealt a latal blow to him anyway.
âTomorrow, then,â Kevanâs voice was deliberately casual It would be good to end this relationship faster because it meant that he would not have to dream about something so unattainable ever again.
Watching his relieved expression, Larissa clenched her fists. âSure.â She forced a smile onto her lace.
âI wonât need your money. Itâs not Like our marriage was real anyway, so to take hall of your money at this stage would not make any sense. Butââ She licked her lips.â Could you please return my Mullin to me?â
Her somewhat humble plea caused Kevanâs heart to shudder. However, he did not wish to change the kitten back, regardless of whether or not it was because of the current situation or due to his own selfishness.
âNo,â he said flatly, his face dark.
Although this refusal was within Larissaâs expectations, hearing it from him really turned her heart to ice.
Okay then.â She did not press the issue. Tâgo back to my room and sleep. See you tomorrow morningâ
Kevan was faster than her though, returning to his room with the kitten in his arms.
Staring at the closed door for quite a while, Larissa finally limped her way back to her room.
Kevan lay on the bed while the kitten lay on his chest. He raised one hand to block off the light that was too piercing for his eyes.
âLarissa- really did not love me, huh?â He smiled bitterly as he spoke. He seemed to be mumbling to himself while also seemingly speaking to the kitten who was sleeping lethargically from its cold.
Iâm honestly so blind and stupid to have been in love with her for so many years.â
âI donât want to love her anymore.â
âBut itâs so hard. Itâs too hard.â
âYou must feel the same too, huh?â
âYou knew that she didnât like you, that she didnât care about you, but you still wanted to show yoursell to her to make her notice you and ke you, right?â
âDo you know how pitiful you are like this?â
âHa. pitiful Indeed.â
Kevan chuckled quietly to himself until the sound gradually faded away.
Larissa did not sleep that night, She got up from the bed with dark circles under her eyes. Worried that Kevan would notice that something was amiss, she applied a thick layer of foundation on her face, and even put on unprecedentedly thick makeup. When she walked out of the bedroom, Kevan was already sitting in the living room. He did not dress any differently from his usual style, and his hair was perfectly brushed.
People would think that he was going to get married, not divorced.
When he heard the noise, Kevan turned to look. Unlike her fragility, he looked line and filled with energy. Larissaâs despondent mood vanished in an instant. He could finally be with his dream girl after all this time, he was probably Jubilant or something! And here she was, being all sad about it, what a total do âLetâs go,â she looked away and sald with much frigidity.
They were waiting for the elevator when Kevanâs phone suddenly rang. He took it out and saw that it was Dylan calling.
Kevan picked up the cal, and Dylanâs lively voice came through. âKevan! Iâm in Dartham! Come on and pick me up from the airport!â
