Chapter 328
Sweet Subterfuge
Everyone had the heart for some gossip, and everyone loved watching some family drama The chattering crowd quieted down, and all kinds of looks were thrown over at Larissa, who felt their gazes stabbing into her back.
âWe can talk about our matter next time.â Pushing down the anger she felt, she reminded Lana, âThis is a babyâs party. Do not ruin everyoneâs spirits.â
Lana had been spoiled since young, so she always put herself first. How could she care about this sort of thing?
To her, Larissaâs attitude in looking at the bigger picture screamed guilt to her, so she refused to let her off, digging her claws furiously into her. âIf we hadnât met here, how on earth was I supposed to see you? You refuse to answer my calls and my texts, and you even refuse to let me into your house when I try to visitâ¦â
Seeing that she was going to cry again, Larissa accommodated her helplessly. âFine. If you have to talk about it now weâll go out and do it alone. Letâs not affect the others here.â
âWhy should we go out? Weâll do it right here and let the others judge. Isnât that nice? Lana made up her mind to humiliate Larissa in front of Violet and her relatives. She was so very jealous of Violetâs love for Larissa, especially once she thought of how Lucas parents treated her during this period her resentment increased further.
âAnd what are we supposed to judge?â Violet spoke in the midst of the silence. She walked over, eyeing Lana coldly. âMs. Seymour, this is not a courtroom. No one has the obligation to solve your family disputes.â
Lana panicked a little when Violet criticized her with such vehemence. She just wanted to drive a wedge between Violet and Larissa, not give Violet a bad impression of herself. After all she still hoped to become a Mrs. Rogers.
âMyâmy apologies,â she said timidly. âI got too agitated and couldnât control my emotions.â She looked at Violet while biting her lip, looking as pitiful as she could.
But Violet had met too many twoâfaced people like Lana.
âWs. Hermes,â she called Cecilia who was trying to hide as discreetly as possible. âShouldnât you be disciplining your future daughterâin- law? Coming to another personâs family gathering to rave and rant â Her gare grew cold, which actually made her look like Kevan, âI makes her look rather uncivilized.â
Having been named by her as well as being looked at with curiosity, sympathy, or disdain, Cecilia thought that she no longer retained any sence of dignity. Glaring at Lana with hatred, she immediately did her best to disassociate from her. âMrs. Rogers, you misunderstand, This Ms. Seymour is not my future daughterâinâlaw! Sheâs just a regular friend of Lucas However, anyone who was not blind could see Lana and Lucas intimacy from before. Besides, to be able to attend a family least like this with Lucas meant that she could not possibly be just a regular friend.
Ceciliaâs lie was terrible, but the guests could understand how she felt. If they were in her shoes, they would never acknowledge Lana as their daughterâinâlaw either.
Xander and Lucas just happened to return to the private room at this time.
Cecilia reacted as if she had found her savior, and she frantically waved at Lucas. âLucas! Hurry up and take your friend away!â
Lucas was stunned for a moment when he heard âfriendâ because no one here tonight was his friend.
But when he saw Lana next to his mom, he reacted at once, Larissaâs, Kevanâs, as well as Volerâs unpleasant expressions, made him realize that Lana had likely caused Some huge trouble.
He had no energy to think of anything else, stepping up quickly to grab Lanaâs hand. âWeâll leave right now. Have fun, everyone.â
Lana was forcibly dragged out by Lucas.
âWhy did you take me away! She pulled hard at his hand, but she could not break free of his grip.
Lucas no longer looked as affable as he had before.
