Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa pursed her lips. âThereâs nothing else to eat at home.â
She had secretly bought a pack of instant noodles when she moved in and hid it in her bedroom. She had thought it would finally come in handy today, but things turned out differently.
âIf thereâs no food at home, donât you know you can order takeout? You can hop from your bedroom to the kitchen on one leg, but you canât take a few more steps to the door? If you donât want to move, you can even call my mom and ask her to bring you loodâ Kevan scolded Larissa, leaving her too stunned to come up with a retort.
âForget itâ Ruby grabbed Kevanâs hand and said. âItâs line to have instant noodles occasionally.â
Kevan glanced at Larissa and lellsient, Leaning on the kitchen counter, Larissa tried to squal down. However, as soon as she bent over, Kevan grabbed her by the back of her collar and lifted her.
âWhat are you trying to do?â he asked, frustrated.
Larissapointed at the floor. âIâm trying to clean up the mess.â
âForget it.â He pushed her aside in disdain. âYouâre disabled, why bother? Just get out of here and order yoursell some takeout.â
Since he was willing to take care of it Larissa didnât stop him, âWell, in that caseâ¦thank you.â
With that she hopped away with one leg. When Ruby saw her struggling, she quickly went to support her, Larissa shook off her hand.
âItâs fine, I can do it on my own.â
Ruby turned around to look at Kevan, chewing on her lip sadly, Kevan stopped what he was doing and took a step forward, blocking Larissaâs path, âApologize to Ruby,â he said, looking at her condescendingly.
Larissa was taken aback, feeling just as sad as the expression Ruby had put on. However, she didnât showi âIâm sorry,â she said to Ruby.
Ruby pretended to be magnanimous.
âItâs okay! Why are you making her apologize for no reason? Tm fine!â
Larissa didnât want to stay there and watch the two of them fit and argue. Hence, she hurriedly hopped away and she almost tripped in the process.
Meanwhile, Kevan watched her departing figure, wanting to go and support her but he retracted his hand in the end.
When Larissa was done ordering takeout, the two of them came out of the kitchen.
âLarissa, howâs your leg healing? Ruby sat next to her, asking with concem.
âitâs almost healed,â Larissa replied nonchalantly.
âLet me take a look. Iâm worried that your wound might have reopened when I saw you almost fall just now.â Ruby reached for her call, wanting to undo her bandages. âI used to be an orthopedic doctor at Victory General Hospital but I resigned after my marriage. Donât worry though, my professional knowledge is still pretty sound. I can tell your bones have fully healed with a short diagnosis.â
âItâs fine.â Larissa wanted to avoid her touch. âI have a lolow-up appointment the day alter tomorrow, so I see the doctor then.â
She disliked Ruby, so she disliked her touch as well However, Kevan held her shoulder, preventing her hom moving away.
*Let Ruby take a look. In case it has reopened, we can go to the hospital and have it treated in time,â

âKevan, do you have scissors and bandages at home?â Ruby asked.
âYes, Iâll go get them.â
