Sweet Subterfuge
Ruby squeezed out a bitter smile. âEarlier, havenât you blocked my phone number and deleted my social media accounts? Besides, youâve been avoiding me.â
Kevan tightened his grip on her shoulder and said in an apologetic tone, âIâm sorry. I didnât expect things would tum out like this!â
âYou donât have to blame yourself. It was my own choice, so I should bear the consequences,â Ruby said graciously. u plan to do?â
Kevan continued, âWhat do you âWhat else can I do?â Rubyâs eyes were filled with sadness. âI have to pretend as il everything is alright and continue living with Cody.â
âYou can lile for divorce.â Kevan suggested.
âDivorce?â Ruby laughed mockingly. âDonât you know how powerful the Rogers family is? If I ruin your familyâs reputation by divorcing Cody, they will find other ways to destroy me!
âI will help you,â Kevan promised.
âAfter get divorced, what then?â Ruby asked. âAs a divorced woman who would dare to marry me?â
As she spoke, her eyes stared directly at Kevan, shimmering with hope.
Kevan understood her intentions clearly and knew what was the answer she wanted to hear.
âI am already married.â he said.
âBut you dorâI love her, do you? Ruby probed further.
âI have to fulfil. my responsibility in this mamlage,â Kevan insisted.
The light in Rubyâs eyes dimmed down.
âI understand.â She turned away and looked out the car window. âLetâs go to the supermarket. They will start suspecting us if we return any later.â
After they bought groceries from the supermarket Kevan parked the car, but Ruby showed no signs of getting out of the vehicle.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Ruby told him after much hesitation, I cant cook â
Previously, she had announced that she would cook dinner for everyone.
Kevan sighed he be ssly. I do it.â
When she heard this, Ruby smiled in rellel. âKevan, youâre being so sweet to me!â
Avoiding her earest gaze, Kevan quickly got out of the car.
Rubyâs expression darkened as she grudgingly unbuckled her seatbelt âKevan and Ruby are back!â Edmund heard the roar of the car engine outside and approached the window.
Larissa was distracted by Edmund and lost the opportunity to play her cards that round. Cursing Inwardly, she blamed Kevan for her loss.
Violet instructed Edmund immediately. âGo and bring Kevan up here!â
Edmund went downstairs to carry out her orders. Once again, he came back empty-handed.
âKevan sald heâs busy and asked Larissa to keep playing. He will reimburse her for the loss when they return home,â Edmund reported.
Violet became even more displeased. âHeâs on holiday. What could he be busy will?â
âWell Edmund hesitated before continuing, it seems like he is going to help Ruby out in the kitchen. He mentioned that Ruby alone. wouldnât be able to handle cooking for so many people. He said that she would exhaust hersell from all the cooking!â
In a rage. Violet discarded her cards on the table. âIs there no household staff around to help Ruby?
How is it his responsibility to help out in the kitchen?
Her outburst startled everyone at the table.
Maria rolled her eyes and said sarcastically. âViolet, it sounds like youâre blaming us indirectly! Do you mean to say that doing household chores is beneath Kevan? Heâs just helping her out with the cooking!
Thereâs no reason to overreact!â
Nancy chimed in, âItâs definitely too much for Ruby alone to prepare dinner for everyone in the family!
Since Kevanâs not doing anything either, wouldnât it be good for him to help out in the kitchen?â
Larissa stood up and said with finality, âEdmund will play this round. I go downstairs and help Ruby in the kitchen.â
