Chapter 295
Sweet Subterfuge
Since both Arthony and Kevan were reserved and Larissa was too shy to start any conversation, only Violet spoke during the meal.
âDid Kevan tell you that weâre going to Uncle Bernardâs house later?â she said.
âYes.â Larissa replied.
youâre not feeling well you should rest at home. Kevan will stay back to take care of you. His father and I can go alone,â Violet Suggested.
Being alone with Kevan now seemed like a terrifying idea to Larissa. Although she wasnât fond of going to Berardâs house either, she insisted on going along. Tim fine, donât worry.â
Bernardâs house was located in a nearby residential arra. It took only a little over ten minutes to drive there.
The three families were gathered once again As most of the topics of conversation were exhausted, the ladies decided to play a round of poker to pass the time.
âWeâre missing one person! WIL For Ruby join us? Mancy sp âLari, why donât you play with them? Ruby wilingly gave up her seat. I have to prepare dinner for everyone?
Nancy gave her a thumbs up and praised! ellusively. âRuby is such a virtuous woman: Sheâs even cooking dinner for us personally!â
Blushing, Ruby smiled. âItâs a rare opportunity for everyone in the family to gather together. Having a home-c ocked dinner would add to the festive atmosphere.â
âI do hope Paul will mamy someone like Ruby in the future! Then, I can die without any regrets Nancy continued.
Ruby chided playfully. âAunt Nancy, donât say that You make me feel embarrassedâ
âWhatâs there to be embarrassed about? Iâm speading the truth!â Nancy gave Larissa a meaningful glance. âYoung women nowadays rarely know how to cook! Theyâre all too pampered and lazyâ
The two of them continued their banter while Marks istened with a satisfied smile on her lace.
On the other hand, Volet and Larissa ignored the other three women and made no response.
Larissa knew how to play poker, but she wasnât good at II. She was no match for the three older women who were avid poker players.
Before long hall of her poker chips were gone from her drawer, Edmund came over and pulled out a chair to sit beside her, Maria asked. âWhy are you the only one who came up? What about Cody and Kewan?â
âCody said he fell a bit tired, so he went back to the room to rest. Kevan is watching the television in the living room, Fdmund answered.
âWhatâs he watching? Violet sounded displeased. âEring him up herr and ask him to leach his wile how to play poker! Otherwise, sheâll lose all her money!â
Maria teased, Viclet, considering how much money kewan earns, itâs not a big deal for his wile to lose some money to us!â
Nancy chimed in, âExactly! For Kevan, this small amount of money is just like a crop in the bucket Ignoring their sarcastic remarks, Violet insisted. âEdmund, go and bring Kewan up here!â
Edmund went out obediently.
A few minutes later, he returned, but he was alone.
Molet astre, âWhere is Revan?
Edmund shrugged his shoulders. âHeâs not in the lyng room anymore. I looked around but couldnât find him. Besides, Ruby isnât in the kitchen rither. I donât know where they all went.â
Nancy socke up, âI think I heard the sound of a car engine being started downstairs. Maybe they went out in the car?â
Edmund walked to the window and took a look, âIndeed, Kevanâs carls gone.â
Violetâs expression froze as she looked at Larissa anxiously.
Meanwhile. Larissa seemed unflappable. She was fully concentrating on the poker cands in her hands.
After a moment, she announced.â
There was no sign in her voice that she was affected by Kevanâs departure.
Edmund SM down next to Larissa.
âIf you donât mind, shall teach you?â he said with a smirk.
