Chapter 289
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 289
Larissa quickly forced a sweet smile and walked towards her, greeting, âHi Mom Viclet smiled from ear to ear as she held Larissaâs hand and said loudly, âHey Larissa squeezed onto the couch beside her as Violet stared at her intently. Then, she asked in a caring lone.â Kevan said youâre sick and were at the hospital this moming. Are you feeling better? Larissa nodded and said, âIâm feeling a ct better. Thanks for asking. Mom.â
Violet pretended to glare at her angrily and seld, âWhat are you talking about? Weâre family. Isnât it normal for me to a ss after you?â Larissa was sturned for a moment, at a loss for words. After all, her own mother had never done any of these ânormalâ things.
Judging from where she was seated, another lady who should be Cody and Edmundâs mother said.
âViolet, your wish has finaly come true! You wished for a daughter-in-law for so many years, and Kevan finally brought her home today!â
âIsnât that right!â Violet said joyfully. Her gaze never left Larissa. âLari, are you hungry? II you are. I ask the kitchen ser vants to serve dinner at onceâ Larissa felt flattered by Violetâs enthusiasm. She glanced at everyone else, who remained motionless, and batted her hands nervously. âNo, no, Iâm not!â
Anthony, who was sitting on the other side of Violet, said decisively. âLetâs eat. Everyoneâs been waiting.â Everyone else got to their feet the moment he stood up. Violet pulled Larissa to the cining hall while introducing the lamily to her non-stop. âThis is Kevanâs second uncle, this is his aunty, and this is his third uncle When she reached Ruby, Violet said, âThis is Codyâs wife, Ruby.â Her expression was normal so Larissa thought she most probably knew nothing about Kewan and Rubyâs history.
Ruby stopped waking when she heard her name and smiled at Violet. She came over to them and held Violet other arm while saying coquettishly, âLarissa and I already met at Grandpaâs house. havenât we.
Larissa? She winked cheekily, and Larissa smirked, playing along with Ruby. âYup.â
The dining hall was huge, It was even larger than the living room of a typical house. Perhaps it was more convenient for reunion meals, the dining table was long and rectangular. There were nearly twenty chairs along its sides. The three lamilies heads sat at the head of the table, followed by three other women from the Rogers family, then the kids.
Larissaâs seat was between Kevan and his motherâs, while Rubyâs was coincidentally on the other side of Kevanâs. She saw it clearly when Ruby pulled away the chair beside Kevan the moment he sat down. Her cunning couldnât escape Larissaâs eyes. However, no one else
seemed to have noticed.
it was Larissaâs first time meeting the family, and she was the new daughter-in-law, so she became the center of everybodyâs attention. They bombarded her with questions.
âWhere are you from?â
âWhere do you live?â
âHow old are you?
âWhatâs your occupation?â
âWhat do your parents do?â
Larissa finally got to experience what others meant by petling interrogated.â She answered all their questions patiently but didnât know what to say when she heard the word âparents.â She shot Kevan a pleading look, hoping that he would help her divert the topic of conversation, but he acted as if he didnât see it. Instead, he helped Ruby get a sice cl pizza.
Larissa gripped the tablecloth and forced herself to look away. She tried her best to keep a smile on her face and said. âMy parents passed away a long time ago, and I grew up in my auntâs care. My aunt used to be a very famous actress. Her name is Yvette Xander.â
