Chapter 219
Sweet Subterfuge
The plane touched down in Covenford, and Larissa felt a renewed sense of vitality as she took a deep breath. It felt as if all her troubles had been left behind.
When Dylan arrived to pick her and Kevan up, the first thing he asked was, âAre you okay?â
She nodded in response and said, âIâm fine.â
Dylan seemed relieved upon hearing that. âThatâs good. I tried calling you for two consecutive days but couldnât reach you I also couldnât find you at your own home. I was worried something had happened to you. Fortunately, Kevan contacted Mr. Compton at your hotel and discovered that you had returned to Bartham with your stepfather. Your phone has been switched off the whole time, and we were concerned that you were being harassed by the Seymour family. Unfortunately, I had a meeting today, so I couldnât accompany Kevan. Sorry for that.â
Larissa waved her hand repeatedly. âThereâs no need to apologize. They were just regular friends, and she was grateful enough that he had shown concern for her. But⦠she secretly glanced at Kevan and thought to herself, âHe actually told the truth.â
âWhatâs up?â she asked Dylan.
âElliotâs case will be going to trial after the holiday. Remember to take time off,â Dylan replied.
âOkay,â she said.
As the car approached the city and passed through the nearest commercial district, Larissa tapped the back of the driverâs seat. âCan you stop the car for a moment?â
âWhy?â Dylan looked at her through the rearview mirror.
âI need to buy a new phone and get a new SIM card at the service center.â
Her phone was still with Xavier. In her haste, she had forgotten to ask him for it. Fortunately, she never stored anything important on her phone, so even if Xavier managed to crack her password, all he would find was her contact list.
âWeâll go with you, and afterward, we can have dinner together,â Dylan said as he turned the steering wheel and entered an underground parking lot of a shopping mall.
As he focused on finding a parking space, he suddenly spotted a familiar car and murmured, Hmmâ¦
However, when he finally saw the license plate clearly, he said, âOh, itâs not.â
âNot what?â Larissa asked.
âThat Maserati over there.â Dylan pointed at a car with his chin. âI thought it was Kevanâs.â
She turned and looked at it. The car was the same model as Kevanâs.
However, Kevan sneered, âDo you think Iâm the only one in the world who drives a Maserati?â
Dylan seemed to miss the sarcasm in Kevanâs words and earnestly replied, âWell, Iâve lived in Covenford for a long time, but Iâve never seen another car like yours on the road.â
âNeither have 1,â Larissa chimed in, receiving a cold stare from Kevan in return.
She then kept quiet and turned to look out the window in the opposite direction from him.
It took her less than half an hour to purchase the phone and get a new SIM card. They then found a restaurant and had a simple dinner. As they were getting ready to leave, they saw Lucas in the underground parking lot.
After the incident at the bar, the relationship between Larissa and Lucas had become somewhat awkward, and they hadnât seen each other since then. However, Lucas approached them to say hello because Kevan was presentâ¦
