Chapter 217
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 217
In the end, Jay didnât offer a higher bid. Ignoring Xavier and Yvetteâs attempts to get him to stay, he angrily led his whole family out of their house. Before going downstairs, Dorian couldnât help but look back at Larissa, reluctant to part with her.
Once outside the Seymoursâ place, he started to complain. âItâs just twenty million dollars! Last month, you paid Laura Newman thirty million dollars for that movie!â
âI gave Laura thirty million dollars because she can earn me several billion dollars in return. Can Larissa do that?â Jay retorted with a snort. âAnyway, forget about this marriage! Tomorrow, Iâll find you a better match.â
âBut Iâve set my sights on Larissalâ Dorian persisted. âI wonât marry anyone else but her!â
âThen fork out twenty million dollars yourself for her I wonât waste a penny on her,â Jay said resolutely.
âEither marry someone else or never marry in your lifetime. You choose.â
âDad!â Dorian took a few steps forward and grabbed his hand, but he shook it off.
âDonât call me Dad! No son of mine is as useless as you are!â
With Annabellâs help, Jay got into the car and slammed the door shut, barely missing Dorian, who wanted to follow him into the car.
Scratching his nose, Dorian reluctantly got into the shotgun seat.
âDorian,â Jay called.
Reuben, who was focused on driving, tilted his head in response. âYes?â
âFind out who Mr. Rogers really is,â he instructed, his eyes flashing fiercely. âIll make him pay for opposing me.â
Meanwhile, back at the Seymours, Kevan took Larissaâs hand.
âWe should leave too,â he said.
However, Yvette stopped them.
âI donât agree with your marriage.â Yvette looked right into his eyes, her tone firm and resolute.
However, her opinion didnât matter to Kevan âThis is a matter between Larissa and me. We donât need anyoneâs approval.â
He shouldered past her, but Yvette grabbed Larissaâs wrist from behind. She didnât dare do anything to Kevan, so she unleashed her anger on Larissa instead.
âDo you want me to die of anger?â
With a smile, Larissa replied, âEven in the late stages of cancer, youâre still full of energy. If I anger you a little, Iâm sure it wouldnât kill you, right?â
Yvette had forgotten that she was still playing the role of a cancer patient. When Larissa reminded her, she immediately toned down her voice. âSince you know that Iâm in the late stages of cancer and donât have many years left, canât you let me have some peace?â
âYouâve never cared about me. Did you care when I left Bartham all these years? Have you shown any concern for me?â Larissa confronted her.
âI never cared about you? Didnât I pay a million dollars to get rid of those nasty people from your ex -
husbandâs family?â Yvette retorted.
âI think we both know for whom you paid that amount of money.â Larissa broke free from her grip and leaned toward Kevan. âIâll return the one million dollars once Iâm back in Covenford. Meanwhile, you can stay at home and rest, pretending that Iâm not your daughter. Make sure you live your last few years happily.â
She gave Kevan a signal, and he immediately began to walk.
âMom!â Lana suddenly shouted, âMom, please donât cry!â
Larissaâs foot hovered over the first step of the stairs for a split second before she decided to place her foot down.
Meanwhile, Yvette sobbed, âLarissa. Iâm not as heartless as you! You can pretend you donât have a mother, but I can never pretend that youâre not my daughter *
Larissa smirked to herself, not responding to her words. Kevan tightened his grip on her hand and hastened their pace down the stairs.
