Chapter 42

Stargazing

The Scomiche Chronicles

"Come on! Come on!" An excited Scott tried to rush Mitch from the bathroom where he'd been getting ready. He'd told Mitch that he had a surprise for them at 8:30 and it was currently 6:00. "Scott, we still have 2 and a half hours. Will you calm down?" Mitch exasperatedly, yet fondly scolded Scott. Scott pouted at Mitch pleadingly. He was going to take him to look at the stars. He'd packed a little picnic for them. He just wanted to spend the night with his beautiful friend. "But I'm so excited for this. When will you be done?" He asked impatiently, in a way that reminded Mitch of a little child. "Almost done, honey. I just need to put my makeup on." He replied, turning back to his make up products that lined the bathroom counter. Scott kissed his head and said "You don't need makeup. You're beautiful without it."  Mitch smiled at Scott and kissed his cheek, but still put on his makeup while Scott fidgeted impatiently next to him.

Mitch was finally ready to go. He yelped as Scott grabbed his arm and practically dragged him out of the bathroom. "Scott, calm down. The surrise isn't going anywhere" He slapped his friend's muscular arm. "We have to be there in timw, otherwise we'd miss the surprise." Scott explained as he dragged the younger boy to the car.  15 minutes into the drive Mitch's curiosity was piqued and he had started Not tellbothering Scott as to where they were going.  "Nope. You'll find out when we get there." Scott said.  He turned into a deserted  forest and said "We're here" finally silencing Mitch. He hopped out and grabbed the picnic basket, and a blanket, then turned to open the car door for Mitch. Mitch stared at the basket and blanket in shock. "Aww, we're having a picnic." He excitedly squealed. Scott grinned at Mitch's  adorable reaction and lead him to a clearing. He set up the picnic and soon the boys were contentedly eating and chatting.  They  finished eating just when it started to turn dark. Mitch looked uneasy and told Scott "I think we should go home. It's starting to get dark and there might be animals here." He nervously said. Scott just laughed. "Baby, there are no animals. I promise. I just wanna show you something." He opened his arms and Mitch glared at him, but ended up cuddling with Scott. As soon as Mitch was comfy, the first star appeared. Then others followed. Mitch stared up, in awe of the beauty that he was witnessing. "Wow, they're beautiful."  "Not as beautiful as you." He heard Scott's voice rumble from his spot on his chest.

Mitch turned to face Scott and blushed once he noticed how close their faces were, but didn't make any attempts to push him away. Scott leaned their foreheads together and started to lean in for a kiss, but Mitch pushed him away. "Scott, we can't.You know why." He said to Scott, who looked resigned. "I know. I'm your best friend and you don't want to mess that up." He said, saying the words he hated saying, for what felt like the millionth time.  Mitch sighed, then spoke. "You're not only my best friend Scott. You're my home, my comfort, and safety. I don't want to risk losing the person who makes me feel all that just for a relationship. What if we break up, then who would I have that knows me like you do? Or takes care of me like you do? I don't want to lose you Scott. Not again."

Scott took it all in, and grabbed Mitch's face, turning it so that it was facing him. "I just want one chance. Just one. It won't be like last time. We were young and foolish back then, but we've matured since then. We won't make the same mistakes back then. Just give me a chance." He pleaded staring into Mitch's eyes. Mitch sighed and cursed the fact that he couldn't deny the pleading blue eyes in front of him, or the way the man in front of him, made him feel any longer. "One chance." He softly said. Scott grinned and kissed Mitch. This kiss had love, and a promise. This kiss was Scott's promise to Mitch that no matter what happened, no matter if they broke up, he would always be Mitch's home. He would always be whatever Mitch needed. It was a promise that Mitch felt deep in his bones and it felt reassuring, almost comforting. Scott pulled back from those highly addicting lips and stared into Mitch's eyes. "I will always be your home, and safety. I will always be what you need. No matter if we break up. No matter what. I love you Mitchy." He promised to the man in front of him who teared up at how sweet that was.

"I love you too." HE said snuggling back into Scott's arms. The two of them snuggled, content to watch the beauty that was above and next to them.
