The soft ticking of the clock echoed in the spacious office as Kim Taehyung sat at his desk, reviewing the documents in front of him. The sunlight filtering through the large glass windows highlighted his sharp featuresâhis perfectly styled hair, deep eyes that held a mysterious depth, and the natural elegance he carried without effort.
Kim Taehyung, the only son of Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin, was the CEO of Kim Enterprises, a position he had worked hard to achieve. Though the company originally belonged to his father, Taehyung had built his own reputation, proving himself to be a capable and respected leader. He wasn't just a wealthy heirâhe was a man of ambition, intelligence, and discipline. More than anything, he wanted his parents to be proud of him, and so far, he had succeeded.
Despite having everythingâa powerful status, wealth, and loyal friendsâthere was one thing he lacked
A life partner.
It wasn't that he had never been approachedâ in fact, he had lost count of how many people had tried to get close to him. But none of them truly cared for him. They were drawn to his handsome face or his fortune, but not to the person he was inside. Taehyung never felt love for anyone, nor did he believe he ever wouldâat least, not until he found someone who would cherish him, not his money or looks.
A knock on the door interrupted his work. Without looking up, he spoke in his usual calm voice.
"Come in."
His secretary stepped inside and stood in front of his desk.
"Mr. Kim, you have a meeting in one hour," she informed him.
Taehyung glanced at his watch and then at her. "Okay, make sure everything is ready in the conference room. I'll be there on time."
As his gaze fell on her, his expression darkened slightly. She was dressed in an outfit that was completely unprofessionalâa short, tight dress with a revealing neckline. Taehyung had never judged anyone based on their fashion choices, but this was a workplace, and he expected professionalism from his employees.
Letting out a silent sigh, he decided to address it in a way that wouldn't offend her. He always believed in treating people with respect.
"Miss Seo, I'm not judging you, but please dress appropriately in the office. Not everyone here is a gentleman," he said, his tone firm but polite.
However, instead of understanding his concern, the woman smiled flirtatiously. A foolish thought seemed to cross her mind, making her believe that Taehyung was interested in her.
"As long as the person is you, I don't mind, Mr. Kim," she said, lowering her voice seductively as she leaned forward, placing her hands on his desk.
Taehyung's expression turned cold instantly. His jaw clenched, and a wave of irritation ran through him. He had dealt with this type of behavior too many times before. No matter how many times he rejected such advances, some people just never learned.
"What the hell are you talking about?" he snapped, his voice sharp. "Is this why I hired you as my secretary?"
The sudden rise in his voice made her flinch. Her confident expression faltered, but she still tried to salvage the situation.
"But, Mr. Kim-"
"Get out." His voice was dangerously low, his patience completely gone.
"But-"
"I said GET OUT!" Taehyung's voice echoed through the room.
The woman gasped, quickly gathering herself before rushing out of the office.
As soon as she left, Taehyung leaned back in his chair and ran a hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated sigh.
This wasn't the first time something like this had happened. She was the second secretary to be fired in a month. The previous one had been too busy staring at him instead of doing her work. And when she had tried to be clingy, Taehyung had dismissed her on the spot.
Tired of the situation, he picked up his phone and dialed a familiar number.
"Hyung~" he whined into the phone, sounding utterly exhausted.
The person on the other end chuckled. "Okay, okay, I'm coming," they said before hanging up.
Just two minutes later, the office door opened, revealing Min YoongiâTaehyung's trusted friend and a senior executive in the company. Unlike most people, Yoongi never treated Taehyung differently just because he was the CEO.
Without hesitation, Yoongi sat across from Taehyung and crossed his arms. "I already gave her the resignation letter. Happy now?" he said with a smirk.
Taehyung sighed again. "Why is everyone like this, hyung? I treated her like a younger sister, and she-"
Yoongi leaned back in his chair and spoke calmly. "Not everyone, Tae. Just some people."
Taehyung scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Then why do these some people always end up in my life?"
Yoongi chuckled. "Because God must be wrapping 'your person' as a gift for you. When the time comes, he'll send them to you."
At that, Taehyung's sulky expression softened. A small giggle escaped his lips.
"Hyung, you always know how to make me smile," he admitted.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." Yoongi waved him off. "Now, let's talk about work. She must have told you about the meeting, right?"
"Yes," Taehyung confirmed.
And just like that, they went back to business, leaving behind the irritation of the past few minutes.
As much as Taehyung hated dealing with people who only saw him as a rich, good-looking CEO, he was grateful for the ones who truly understood him. His real friendsâJimin, Yoongi, and Hoseokâwere always by his side, and for now, that was enough.
What he didn't know was that somewhere, fate was already preparing to bring his person into his life. Someone who would love him for his heart, not his wealth. Someone who would change his life forever.
