Chapter 108
Whispers of Destiny His Belated Love
Oswald sensed something unusual between the two: âRose, whoâs this?â
Rosemary, who was called out, turned around and was about to speak when Maxwell behind her
said, âIâm Rosemaryâs husband. Itâs raining, and Iâm here to pick her up.â
As he spoke, he pulled her closer into his embrace.
âYes, heâs my husband,â Rosemaryâs face froze as she spat through clenched teeth, âHeâs a bit
thick-skinned, Oswald. Please donât mind.â
Oswald was amused by her words, âDonât be annoyed, heâs just concerned about you. This place
isnât easy to find.â
The entire street was lined with these quaint buildings, and the restaurant he had chosen wasnât
famous at all, and the location was not advantageous. Even knowing the name, finding it wouldnât
be a walk in the park.
Judging by Roseâs reaction, it was clear that she also hadnât expected him to show up here, which
meant she hadnât shared her location.
Just this thoughtfulness alone showed that her husband must care a lot about her.
Rosemary had no choice but to nod in agreement.
After seeing Oswald off, she immediately did a full 180 on Maxwell: âHow can you be there?â
She wasnât buying the coincidence card.
If they were so destined, they wouldnât be at the brink of divorce.
âChrist said you were eating here.â
âYou had someone following me?â
The place was miles away from The Templeton Groupâs office building, and it was a workday. Only
Maxwellâs command could possibly have let Christ know that she was eating here.
Maxwell didnât argue; he just pulled her into the car.
Rosemary raised an eyebrow and asked ironically: âSo, you didnât come here just to take me back,
did you?â
She didnât kick up a fuss to get out of the car: firstly, Maxwell had a firm grip on her hand â she
couldnât break free no matter how hard she tried; secondly, she didnât want to hail a taxi in this
weather. She wasnât the tragic drama heroine, insisting on appearing headstrong and end up
looking like a mess.
A ride right to her doorstep, why not take it? Especially since she owned half the car.
Maxwell: âNo.â
Rosemaryâs eyes widened in surprise.
That quick admission â he seemed to have all the traits of being shameless!
Maxwell instructed Jason: âGo to the mall.â
âItâs so late, why go to the mall?â Rosemary frowned.
âTo go shopping.â
âAre you crazy!?â
âDonât you want a divorce?â Maxwell looked at her. âNo dice with the private negotiation, and you
wonât win in court either. Maybe you should start thinking about how to make me happy. Who
knows, if Iâm in a good mood, I might agree to divorce.â
His words hit the nail on the head for her, making her unable to refuse.
Seeing her expression, Maxwell knew she agreed. He cracked a smile, a hint of amusement in his
eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a self-mockery.
Since Maxwell hadnât specified which mall to go to, and it was getting late, Jason just drove to a 24-
hour mega mall.
It had everything: boutiques, snack bars, night markets, perfect for a coupleâs date.
Once the car door opened, all sorts of noises flooded in. Rosemary got out of the car and stood
aside, waiting for Maxwell to take the lead.
Shopping was proposed by him, and she had no clue what he was looking to buy.
Rosemary originally thought that he would walk in front and she would follow. Although she was
wearing high heels, men werenât typically keen on shopping, so she could handle it, even if her
heels were sky-high.
Maxwell walked forward a few steps, then turned to see Rosemary still rooted to the same spot. He
reached for her hand, pulling her to his side: âIf I wanted to go shopping with a subordinate, any
random secretary would do. Why would I need to go through all this trouble to pick you up?â
Rosemary was about to retort, but considering her current situation as the underdog, she put on a
fake smile and said in a high-pitched voice: âSure thing, boss. Lead the way, Iâll be right there to
support you.â
Maxwell swept a cold glance at her obviously forced smile: âYou shut up, do not smile.â
He had wanted to ask if she was the same with Martin when they shopped, but he swallowed the
words back down.
Rosemary retreated her smile, looking at him with a blank expression.
Great, he was even more irritated now.
In the mall, they wandered aimlessly through the first floor, which was filled with skincare, shoes,
and sweets; then they took the elevator to the second floor.
She had tried to slip her hand out of his grasp but hadnât succeeded.
She had thought Maxwell would go straight up, given that the second floor was for lingerie and
womenâs clothing, but he didnât.
Rosemary looked at the dazzling array of lingerie on both sides, including some rather risqué pieces
mixed in between, leaning over whispering: âDo you have some preferences that are unknown to
others?â
Otherwise, why stroll through the lingerie floor?
Maxwell didnât glance at her, âIf I said yes, would you try them on for me?â
Rosemary recoiled like a frightened bird.
The mall was divided into the south and the north wings, with each floor massive. Maxwell didnât
entered any stores on the first three floors, and even on the fourth, which was for menswear, he
showed no intention of going in any stores.
He was just dragging her along the corridors. Instead of saying that they were shopping, it felt more
like he was inspecting his work with her. But Rosemary remembered this mall wasnât part of The
Templeton Groupâs assets.
All this talk of shopping, and the man was just torturing her on purpose.
Rosemary pointed to a mannequin in a store window: âThat outfit looks nice, why donât you give it a
try?â
It was already spring, and the display window models were decked in, well, flamboyant outfits.
Maxwell looked where she was pointing â it was a suit, green and embroidered.
He turned to Rosemary, who was leaning her head towards him and smirking.
The manâs Adamâs apple bobbed: âHmm.â
Rosemary just wanted to find a store to sit and rest, the backs of her foot were all worn out! She
was thinking after being rejected for the green suit, she could pick something more low-key, and by
then Maxwell would most likely feel embarrassed to refuse again. But she didnât expect that he
agreed so readily.
Rosemary quickly pulled him into the store and sat down on the sofa, pointing at the suit and telling
the sales associate, âBring him a suitable size.â
When Maxwell went into the fitting room, he whispered something to the sales associate waiting by
his side, who nodded and left.
The man changed clothes quickly, and a few minutes later he came out.
One must admit that, a good-looking man with a great physique can pull off anything, even this
green embroidered suit that practically no one else could rock.
The sales associate who had ran away just now came back gasping, holding a shoe box in her
hand. She walked straight toward Rosemary, and when she passed by Maxwell, the box was taken
over by him, âThanks for the trouble.â
Maxwell walked to the front of the sofa, squatted down, one hand opened the box, the other hand
held Rosemaryâs ankle.
