Chapter 66
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
066 The Stalker Sebastianâs POV I split from Adrian after his horrible accusation.
Ava doesnât like Scar, sure. But she would never commit a crime. I donât believe the innocent angel I met would suddenly turn capable of harming someone with cold blood.
24 hours have passed, and the cops found nothing. All they were able to do was to determine that both girls left home willingly, and disappeared from the security cameraâs blind spots. How much does it take to fucking cover the city with some damn cameras?!
I donât fucking need Adrian and his police bud! Iâve got friends, too! I filed a formal missing personâs request through a friend, claiming that I have reason to believe that my wife was abducted and being transported out of the city, and the feds were more than happy to intervene.
With one of the girls missing being my wife, and both of them my close acquaintances, I was questioned thoroughly before being kept on site-
The FBI determined this abduction case a crime targetting me, and though itâs not typical for a kidnapper to not reach out for ransom, it can happen anytime. They tagged my cell, my office, and home landlines, and they have been going through my everything.
Anything to find them, Iâm willing.
My phone rings and the whole room pauses as I raise it to look. I keep my phone in my hand, waiting for the call of fate.
[Adrian Dunn]
Fuck! I cut his call and dropped my wrist, lowering my head to dissolve my disappointment. He has been calling me, and I donât want to talk. The local police. donât work well with the Feds. Not to mention, it would be the wrong direction to look into if they pin Ava as the criminal instead of the victim.
He doesnât like Ava, itâs fine. But I wonât let him get in the way of saving the girls.
Quid pro quo. We have got leads on Avaâs kidnapper.] Adrian sends over a message. I want to fucking turn off my phone, but I canât ignore his offer.
Des The Staker +25 BONUS Avaâs kidnapper?
Even if he is just saying that to lure me, I canât pass on any leads involving Ava.
âJim,â I call, and he glances at me, and nods at his men surrounding him before coming over. I show him my phone, and with a short moment of thinking, he takes my phone and calls Adrian.
âThis is FBI Deputy Director, Jim Cooper. If you have any leads on the case, you have an obligation to share-â
He purses his lips when a string of angry outbursts blows out. I canât make out Adrianâs words, but there is no difficulty understanding his feelings.
âYou got yourself a deal,â Jim speaks calmly again after a moment, his eyes firm,â now the plate number.â
Itâs a âmaybeâ number.
Adrian the jerk pulled up Scar and Avaâs phone record after all, and as much I hate it, their last exchanged messages did happen around midnight the night before, with Ava asking Scar to meet. The last location Ava instructed Scar to go was near the last footage that caught Scar that night before she disappeared into a blind spot.
Adrian doesnât have much more, but he said he knew which camera a car has to pass, if any car want to pick up someone in that blind spot and leave without a trace. And surely enough, they caught a plate number from that camera minutes after Scar went in.
Thatâs a âleadâ with a string of maybes piled together.
But that IS the best lead we have got so far.
âIt can be something,â Jim soon comes to me with a pile of photos, all taken around the Fullerâs Villa, all with a car with that plate number in the shots, âThe driver is smart, and he knows well where the cameras are. But he has been following Miss Ava for a long while, and heâs bound to be caught by SOME of the cameras.â
A stalker?!
Adrian was right about the plate, but not about Ava! She IS a victim in this!
âSo?â I flip through the photos, demanding to Jim, âYou know the car now, you can locate it, right?!â
Dob The Stalker +25 BONUS âWe are on it,â Jim nods at his men, âAs soon as we sort out a timeline, we can pin it within a range.â
A range is better than nothing.
âDo you know this guy?â He pulls up the last photo. Itâs of the driver.
The security camera never caught the driver. They have to pull up this photo from the DMV. And itâs one of those ID shots that captures a stiff look that you never use in real life. In fact, they canât even determine whether the owner IS the driver in this case, or just a guy with his car commandeered by some random guy.
âLooks familiar?â Jim pokes the photo.
They think the kidnapper is someone I know- or, someone who knows of me. From what it looks like right now. Itâs more likely to be a personal vendetta against me than a random crime.
But I donât know him.
