Chapter 65
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
065 Common Enemy Scarlettâs POV The man stands up with a hand supporting his heavy body on the table, then starts stretching his limbs in a string of painfully slow moves, ignoring me and Ava in total. His hair is messy, and his smelly clothes loosely hang from his beer belly. Then he opens a bottle of water, rinses before he swallows the water in his mouth, and splashes water on his face and head until the bottle is empty. He grabs what looks like a dirty shirt and wipes his head.
He doesnât look like a thug. Thug has better bodies...and probably healthier lifestyles, too.
But that doesnât mean he is not a predator. He abducted two girls â Iâll take Avaâs words on this for the sake of argument â tied them to chairs in a dark room of what looks like an abandoned building, and it seems that his intention behind his slow movements is intimidation. Like the play before a cat kills a mouse it caught.
Then all of a sudden, he pulls a string hanging in the room and lights penetrate my eyes, leaving a sour sting. From Avaâs hisses, I assume it took her off guard, too.
A common enemy of me and Ava? That would be the most unlikely thing to exist if you asked me yesterday. But Iâm leaning toward believing her now. She lured me here; yes. But she might also be a victim, too.
The man walks over.
With a thumping heart, I keep my sour eyes on him, but just below his chin. I donât want to meet his eyes, but I canât look away when danger approaches. The grey shirt heâs wearing looks like it has been on him for days, smells like that, too. He is in sweatpants and running shoes, good ones. He wasnât poor before whatever this is.
âSebastian Knight, you are his woman?â The man grumbles at me when heâs close enough for me to smell his breath. His eyes are red due to lack of sleep, filled with viciousness, anger, desperation...and a shred of pain.
Is that why we are here? He is Sebastianâs enemy?
I glance at Ava and she bites her lips nervously.
Just fucking great! The moment I put two and two together, anger burst out in my chest. So he abducted Ava thinking she was âSebastianâs womanâ, and to save her ass, she sold me out and lured me to this psycho?!
065 Common Enemy +25 BONUS Iâm going to fucking kill her!
âHe divorced me, if thatâs what you meant,â I try to keep a calm voice, answering him clearly. I donât want to piss him off.
âHe still loves you though,â The man bends down, and I flinch backward beyond my control. Seeing that, he lets out a cold snort, âDo you think it would hurt him more, if I take his woman before killing her in front of him?â
Okay, thatâs some serious hatred alright. A chill breaks out on my back at his stone- cold tone.
He is serious about this.
âHe doesnât love me,â I try to make that sound like a state of fact, instead of a hasty explanation. I cannot believe even after divorce, that damn jerk can still get me in trouble, âhe never loved me, and as a matter of fact, he hates me. Thatâs why we divorced.â
And the woman he loves is right behind you.
But I didnât say that. I want to keep him talking, instead of shifting his attention to Ava. If the guy believes me and kills her, her army wonât let me live. If the guy doesnât believe me...then no point to go that low for nothing.
âI donât know what happened between you and Sebastian, but there are better solutions than you dying as a murderer just to kill an exâwife of his who he doesnât even care,â I blurts fast, but keeping a steady tone.
The guy pauses, standing up straight, his eyes narrowed as he observes me.
âYou are smarter than that one,â He nods in Avaâs direction without darting his scary eyes off me, â...which is why I donât believe you. She told me you are his wife, and she didnât lie.â
Damn it. I didnât lie either!
âI can get you money-â I avert the topic.
âI donât want money!â The guy suddenly gets agitated, shouting like a maniac, âI donât want your filthy money, and I donât want a way out! He killed my loved one, and Iâm going to do the same to him!â
