Chapter 42
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
042 Another Uninvited Scarlettâs POV I think Granny heard me. In fact, I think half of the party heard me. But Granny is not the kind of person that would embarrass you in public, and I dare not to bring it up. myself â I just yelled at her beloved grandson, and now my ears are burning.
I donât even know what I could say IF she asked. We have never fought in front of Granny before.
âHow are you doing recently?â Granny chats with me casually, leading the way among the crowd, nodding and returning smiles from time to time, âSebastian mentioned something about a new job?â
I sneak a glance at Sebastian, and he rolls his eyes all the way to the ceiling.
So he âcomplainedâ something about a new job. No doubt itâs because of Adrian.
âItâs because my...hmmm, Mom, mentioned Richard Hanson the other day,â I try to find my words to skip the crazy mess that happened recently without lying...too much, âand I thought maybe I could give my script a try.â
âOhh, you wrote a script?! How wonderful!â Granny exclaims with a supportive smile, her eyes with genuine happy sparkles, âHow come you have never mentioned something like that?!â
I finished college and got a Fine Art degree, but that was it for my art career. Building a family is not easy, and I wanted to put more energy on my âmarriageâ. Effort in vain.
âItâs...a story that I have been grinding on for a long time now,â I shrug, âit just wasnât ready.â
âAnd you didnât want to make it with your husband as the ladder, huh?â Granny nudges me lightly. I canât tell if she is mad at me for going to Adrian. I mean, Adrian IS their business enemy.
âAdrian is a good boy,â Granny nods and continues as if she wasnât expecting an answer from me anyway, âHe always had high ambitions, longing to exceed his fatherâs achievement. Ohhh, I heard that he somehow got James Deep under his command!
Very impressive! If he takes your script, remember to ask for him from your new boss!â
James Deep! The brightest rising star of directors in town, fastest, might I add. He +25 BONUS 042 Another United dropped out of college because âthey have nothing to teach meâ, and his father was the sole sponsor for his first movie directed.
At that time, everyone thought him a joke burning daddyâs money for fun, but that movie got a 10000% profit rate and got three award nominations, winning two of those.
âOf course I will put Deep on her story...Granny.â
I wheel around, only to see Adrianâs grin right behind me. Given Sebastianâs look, it seems that he has been following us for a moment. But why is he here?! Isnât he the â nemesisâ of Sebastian?! Not to mention I never even invited him! Exactly how many unwelcomed got in todayâs party?!
Seeing my apparently shocked face, Adrian laughs out loud.
âGranny, I canât believe you didnât tell Scar about me!â Adrian complains with a faux frown, âAm I not your best friend anymore?â
Best...friend?! I have never heard of such a thing!
I dart my eyes between Adrian and Granny in shock. Pretty sure my mouth can fit an egg, easy.
âHmph!â Granny pouts, shooting Adrian a condescending snort, âArenât you the one who abandoned me first?! I shouldnât have reserved your name as âno invitation neededâ for all these years to make you beg to come back here!â
My jaw is on the ground now. Sebastian is rolling his eyes with grumpy huffs but the pair of âbest friendsâ both ignore him.
âHe kicked his father off the throne very young, and I kept mine for too long,â Granny turns to me and immediately puts on a warm smile, explaining, âWe sort of exchanged a few moves on the business table, and he was very impressive, for a kid that young.â
Wow.
âBut the Iron Lady kicked my ass after all,â Adrian makes à face at me, âand the worst of her is, she retired right after! Iâm pretty sure she did that just so I wonât have a chance to take her down.â
âYou know thatâs not true!â Granny protests with a mischieving smirk, âSebastianâs hands were itchy to take the wheel, thatâs the truth and the whole truth!â
Iâd have believed her if she didnât add the âwhole truthâ.
042 Another Uninvited +25 BONUS âSure, sure, sureâ Adrain nods indulgingly, grinning harmlessly at Granny, âand thatâs why Iâm kicking his ass now instead!â
Sebastian rolls his eyes again, keeping his distance from the conversation with obvious frustration.
I almost envy the genuine friendship between them. Itâs something so rare yet valuable in the business world, especially from two people that are least likely to have. I want to pull this pair of precious to a table for more fun stories, but this is the moment when a loud uproar arises from an especially crowded corner-
âWho allowed a knockoff to enter!?â
I look over, and I see Lilith surrounded by judging eyes in the center of the crowd, awkwardly rubbing her dress.
