Chapter 149 Dirty Little Fights
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
Scarlettâs POV Lilith needs money.
She never shows that part of her life to us. She is the kind of person who would take a student loan and three partâtime jobs and never mention it to us. But she paid up that loan already and she just got a decent job. What could make her come for money like this?
âWhatâs the plan?â Lucas asks, his eyes on the fight, âI understand your worry, but your friend has the upper hand.â
âShe just took a punch!â I hiss at him.
âWell, itâs still a fight,â Lucas rolls his eyes, his tone admiring: âSheâs tough though. She would rather take a harder blow with her body rather than one on her face. To hide her secret, I assume?â
I lower my eyes, canât look at the fight anymore.
I donât know what to do. I have always respected her decision on this matter, but if she is taking such a risk for money, is it still okay to not intervene? But even if I wanted to help, I donât know if I could, or if she would even take it. Telling her that I know about this might end up only hurting her.
âLetâs find those two first,â I turn around, mainly just to escape from the ring, âI want to know what they are here for.â
And I want to know what Oliver Scott meant by Lilith being Damian Vanderbiltâs âpetâ.
Locating them didnât take too much time, making our way to them through the crowd did. They sat on the highest seat, close the range. Their fancy, spotless suits made them stand out from the crazy crowd around them. Lucas and I sneak below their seat, even so, itâs hard to make out what they are saying.
âDid you know about this?â Oliver Scottâs voice sounds taunting, âYou pay your woman so poorly that they have to do side jobs like this?â
Damian Vanderbilt replies something, but itâs drowning in a wave of cheering from the crowd.
âYou are not going to help?â Oliver Scott exclaims in surprise, âI thought this one was special.â This one. How many others are there?
Damian Vanderbilt does not reply. I look up, but itâs hard to see anything from under the seats. I exchange an angry look with Lucas, but he shakes his head and hints me to listen on.
âI can give her some money on your behalf,â Oliver Scott suggests in a joking tone, âShe gets money AND you can see if I become special to her, too.â
âHands off,â This time I hear Damian Vanderbiltâs answer, his voice cold and impatient, âShe is MINE.â His voice is calm, but that doesnât reduce the scary power of warning.
Oliver Scott laughs, nudging Damian Vanderbilt with his shoulder in a taunting tone: âYou are on the edge of being TO0 possessive. Do you think I would help if sheâs not YOU âEnough about this,â Concluding, Damian Vanderbilt stands up, buttoning his suits in a cold voice, âI actually do have something you can help with.â
âShoot,â Oliver Scott remains sitting, smirking. The laugh in his voice is obvious, âBut I donât want to miss YOUR little petâs brilliant fight.â
Damian Vanderbilt turns around, apparently giving him a glare.
âWhat?!â Oliver Scott is not intimidated, âYou can chase me out, but can you call off this whole crowd? I might as well enjoy a show that you donât see every day.â
Both of them are jerks. I frown. I have heard enough. Lilith doesnât deserve to be treated as a âpetâ, and even if sheâs willing, he is not being a proper sugar daddy! Isnât giving her money his full job?!
I push Lucas and he nods, making way for me. But then, Damian Vanderbiltâs words stop meâ
âI found my momâs necklace,â
I freeze, shooting my head up at Lucas. At the same time, Oliver Scott jumps up too, his huge move makes Lucas and me freeze, pressing our ears as high as we can.
âYou are kidding!â Oliver Scott exclaims, but his tone is serious this time, âAre you sure?â
â100%. That necklace is one of a kind,â
Could it be? On the night I found my Momâs necklace, he mentioned one thatâs rare and meaningful to him but not the same one? They have to be the same one...right?
âWhere did you find it?â Oliver Scott asks.
âThatâs where you come in,â Damian Vanderbilt leads their way down, and I have to squat and follow their steps, âAva Fuller was wearing it tonight. And I need to know everything about her before Dad finds out about this.â
âUh ohhhh,â Oliver Scott laughs behind Damian Vanderbilt, âDirty little fights between heirs of the rich? Am I in danger just by hearing about this?â
âMoron,â Damian Vanderbilt grunts, âIâm serious. I donât want Dad to hear about any of this, do you understand?!â
Oliver Scott answers yes, but that is the most I can hear before they disappear into the crowd.
I hide under the little dark corner under the stairs, lost,
