Chapter 140
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
Scarlettâs POV âWhat was that?!â Ava demands in haste, charging back to the study.
Damn it! She heard me.
Sebastian knocks on the glass door lightly, pointing at the lock. Luckily with Avaâs frantic shout and turning the doorknob as cover, I unlocked the glass door and opened it smoothly.
âWhatââI hiss at him but he covers my mouth and pulls me out to the balcony.
âWhat did you text Ava?â He asks directly.
âI donât know...â I murmur. Lucas sent it. I didnât leave until I returned his phoneâ
Wait, he knew?!
Sebastian drops that topic fast. âUnder the table or cross the balconyâs gap, choose one,â He says swiftly with a strict tone, turning me to the direction of my room,â Under the table is safer, but walking out can be tricky-â
âThe balcony,â I choose fast. The gap between the two balconies is less than one meter. I think Jack Fuller prepared the bedroom for his little girl from the start, and he never thought danger could come from this direction.
But itâs still scary.
I look down and instantly feel adrenaline oozing out of my waist area, making me shiver.
âBlacony is okay,â Sebastian comes up behind me, grabbing my waist gently as if a hug, âI wonât let anything happen to you.â
I try to shrink myself under his palms. I donât want to own him, but I am taking his favor, and what I hate the most is â I know I can trust him on his words.
âWait, they have eyes on the balconyââ
âNot right now,â Sebastian says. His words are simple, but his tone so dominating that I just canât help but trust, âThey left after that guy climbed up. Otherwise I canât come up without being seen. If you donât want to do it, I can just take you out and tell Ava-â
140 Heroes Moment In A War âNo!â I blurt, and start climbing over the balcony.
Sebastian grabs my wrist with one hand, keeping his other hand on my waist at my moves until I face him across the rail.
âDonât look down,â Sebastian says, holding my waist with a firm hand as he does a short whistle, âPhwhht!â
âHeard you from a mile away,â Lucasâs voice raises behind me, lazy and leisurely,â sending the lady into such a dangerous mission is not nice.â
âI can take responsibility for her choices,â Sebastian frowns at him, leaning out as I try to reach over to Lucas, âItâs your side that Iâm worried about!â
Lucas snorts coldly at Sebastian: âI know what Iâm dealing with.â
I grab Lucasâs hand in haste, worrying that his next sentence would be âunlike a husband who doesnât know his wife is pregnantâ.
He picks me up with one arm behind my back, landing me safely on our side. I dodge to the side in haste, looking back for Sebastian.
But he is not moving.
âYouâyou are not coming over?â I hiss at him, my heart still pumping hard in my chest.
âSomeone has to stay behind to lock the door,â He smiles at me, âSee you on the other side?â
Why is he making this into some heroic moment?! Itâs Ava he has to deal with! Even if at war, she would only welcome him with cakes and a cup of hot coffee!
I frown, upset at myself.
I want to say itâs fine if we donât lock the balconyâs door. Itâs not like Jack Fuller wouldnât know who did it. He saw through my plan when I asked for Avaâs room, and he set up todayâs trap just for me to jump in. And I did, leaving Sebastian in the rope.
I wanted a clean break. I donât like how he keeps trying to get close and is somehow hard to push away.
Sebastian walks in and closes the glass door. Lucas and I also leave the balcony when he glances at his phone: âWhere is your phone?â
My phone!
140 Hero Moment in A War I gasp in shock, covering my mouth. I dropped it when Sebastianâs presence scared me! Itâs still lying on the floor of the study!
âAhem,â Lucas clears his throat into his phone â our phone call is still on â trying to get Sebastianâs attention. I take his phone, trying my best to restrain the urge to call his name.
âSebastian?!â Avaâs voice comes through Lucasâs phone, âWhat are YOU doing here?! Where is Scar?â
âWhy would she be here?â Sebastian says calmly, âI found this on the ground, sol took a curious shot. Iâm sorry, but your dadâs study has a very interesting lock.â
