Chapter 89 âYeah, Iâm on the road. How about you?â Noelle asked. Iâll be there in half an hour or so.â
âYeah, Iâm out too. Letâs meet up!â
Half an hour later, Noelle spotted Charles chilling by the mall entrance, with no car in sight. Shestepped out of the car. âWhereâs your car?â
âRonald drove it off.â Charles said with an easy grin, one hand chilling in his pocket. His smile waslike a warm spring day, totally disarming.
Noelle paused, a hand to her forehead, âOh!â She could not help but think Charles was playing dirtywith a smile like that. She never knew a guy could look so good just by smiling.
Charles narrowed his eyes, catching Noelleâs vibe, a spark of mischief in his gaze. âYou donât seemtoo thrilled.â
âNo way!â Noelle laughed awkwardly, âYouâre totally seeing things!â
âI guess I must be,â Charles said with a playful smile, âLooks like Iâll have to ask you for a lift homethen, Mrs. Hoffman!â
Noelle was speechless for a moment⦠Was he for real? âYou can just call me Noelle.â
âBut I prefer this!â Charles chuckled, gently sweeping Noelleâs hair back from her face, âThat doesnâtfeel right to me!â
âFine, but come up with something else!â
âI donât want to call you what everyone else does!â Charlesâs brow crinkled. âI want something thatâsours, something unique.â
Noelle let out a soft sigh. This whole nickname thing with Charles was throwing her off. âOkay, thencome up with something unique!â
Charlesâs frown deepened, a touch of thoughtfulness in his voice. âAlright, Iâll think of somethingspecial just for you!â
âOh!â Noelle gave a nonchalant shrug. To her, any name was fine as long as it was not too formal. Itwas just another nickname, really.
Charles thought for a beat. âI havenât come up with anything yet. Letâs go! You were craving steak, right?â
Noelle nodded. âYeah, and what about you?â She paused, considering they were a married couplenow. She could not just think about her own favorites. âWhatâs your goâto? Iâm still not sure aboutyour tastes, so give me a heads up, and Iâll keep an eye out when we shop.â
Charles squinted with a playful grin. âIâm easy. Iâm not fussyâjust make sure itâs cooked!â Hepaused, Thatâs all youâre in the mood for? What about veggies?â
â
Noelle blinked, surprised, âVeggies are all good, arenât they?â Was she supposed to have strongopinions on those too?
âSo, youâre a meatâlover, huh?â Charles teased, the word âmeatâ rolling off his tongue with a slyundertone.
Oblivious to the tease, Noelle hesitated, then nodded. Yeah. I loved my grandpaâs steak when I waslittle.
1/2 +15 BONUS Iâm not quite the chef he was. His food was amazing. Iâd always go back for seconds, especially forthe meat dishes.â She laughed, a bit sheepishly. âSounds like Iâm bragging, huh?â
Charles let out a soft laugh. âNot at all. It sounds like youâre pretty easy to please. Youâre a big fan ofmeat, I see!â
Noelle paused, puzzled. Charlesâs words seemed fine on the surface, but they felt off to her. Still, she nodded in agreement. âYeah, I really do love my meat!â
