Chapter Wife 55
The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles)
Chapter 55 Meanwhile, Ronald escorted two colleagues away when a sudden chill crept over him, a gut feelingthat something was off. âSeriously? Mr. Hoffman canât be that ruthless, can he?â
Noelle listened as Charles did something he hardly ever did: he admitted he was wrong. She had toadmit that part of the blame was on her for not being more alert. She glanced down at how closeshe and Charles were standing and felt her cheeks heat up again.
She gently pushed away Charlesâs hand and turned her head to hide her flushed face. âWhere aremy clothes?â
Charles narrowed his eyes, feeling the loss of warmth from his hand, and looked away. âHeadupstairs first.â
âOkay.â
Noelleâs emotions were a tangled mess. Could she really have just married Charles like that? It allhad happened so fast that it still felt like a dream to her.
She made her way to Charlesâs bedroom. Earlier, she had noticed that his house was tastefullydecorated, with a simple yet sophisticated style that did not quite match the overâtheâtop luxury sheexpected from the homes of the rich.
Noelle glanced around, feeling the seconds stretch into hours, and started looking for herbelongings. That was when she spotted her phone in Charlesâs room. She grabbed it in a hurry andsaw it was powered off.
She turned on her phone quickly and was bombarded with a bunch of missed calls. Most were fromXavier, but there were also a few from her grandfathers, Sebastian and Samuel, Noelle bit her lip and dialed her Grandpa Sebastianâs number first. He picked up almostimmediately. â Noelle?â
âGrandpa, itâs me, Noelle!â she said. âMy phone died last night. Did you need me for something?â
âWhere have you been?â Sebastian had tossed and turned all night. With Noelleâs voice finallyreaching his ears, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. âWerenât you at Samuelâs placeyesterday? He rang me up in the dead of night, worried sick, asking if I had any clue where youwere. Thatâs when it hit me that something was off. Noelle, you have to tell me whatâs going on withthe Shaws Sebastian had always been frosty toward the Shaw clan. Noelle had sensed his chillânot just withthe Shaws but with his own daughter, Jadeâfrom a young age, but she was clueless about thebeef, Noelle nibbled on her lip. âGrandpa, donât worry. Iâm all good. I just had a rough night, so after wecelebrated granddadâs big day, I headed home. My phone just died, so I missed your calls.â
She mulled it over but kept last nightâs drama from Sebastian. Knowing his fiery streak and hisexisting beef with the Shaws, he would storm their castle if he caught wind of the stunt Jade and theShaw squad pulled. Noelle was not about to spark a family feud. Her granddad was nothing likethose Shaw villains. He was a gem.
For real?â Sebastian was skeptical, but seeing Noelle in one piece, he let it slide. âKiddo, if you everget in a jam, you come straight to me, okay? Iâll set things right.â
+15 BONUS âI get it, Grandpa. Who would even try to mess with me? Youâve been up worrying all night, havenâtyou? Go get some sleep. Iâll come by to see you when I get the chance!â
Noelle ended the call, a shadow passing over her eyes, and dialed Samuel. As expected, Samuelbrought up last nightâs drama. âIâm not too old to have missed the racket last night, you know. Iâmaware you were treated unfairly, but you shouldâve come to me instead of taking off on your own.â 1 âGrandpa, I understand,â Noelle said thoughtfully. âReally, Iâm okay. I didnât want to make youunhappy with what happened yesterday! And hey, Iâm fine now, right?
âOkay. I know youâre a good kid, but youâve got to remember to look out for yourself. Stay awayfrom the Shaw place unless you really have to. If youâre missing me, just let me know, and Iâll haveMr. Thompson take me out for a bit.â
