Chapter 659
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Approaching with respect, the nurse placed the pill box from her tray onto the table in front of Gwendolyn.
Gwendolyn cradled her baby in one arm, feeding the little one with a bottle. With her free hand, she reached for the pill box on the table and examined its contents.
The nurse stood quietly beside her.
Before she touched the pill box, Gwendolyn suddenly noticed something strange.
âThatâs not right. On the first day of a new medication regimen, the attending physician should personally administer it. Furthermore, the doctor should be the one to bring the medicine and communicate the dosage to me instead of a nurse.â
She turned her head. âWhy are you here?â
A sinister gleam appeared in the nurseâs eyes. The moment Gwendolyn turned to look at the nurse, the latter swiftly produced a syringe filled with anesthesia from behind her back and ruthlessly stabbed it toward Gwendolynâs neck.
Gwendolyn, holding the baby, struggled to fight back with one hand, finding it challenging to exert force.
Meanwhile, the nurse viciously used both hands to overpower her.
The needle pierced Gwendolynâs neck, but she clenched her teeth and unleashed a powerful kick, causing the nurse to stumble to the side. The sedative in the nurseâs hand failed to enter Gwendolynâs body.
A thin scratch marred Gwendolynâs fair skin, and small droplets of blood began to well up from the wound.
Benedict began crying in discomfort at the sudden, lurching movements.
Gwendolyn did not have time to console him. In response, she swiftly placed him back in the crib, covered him with a thin veil, and engaged in a fierce battle with the woman in the nurseâs uniform.
Free of the hindrance of holding the baby, Gwendolyn, a skilled black belt practitioner of jiu-jitsu, swiftly gained the upper hand in the fight and ended it in no time.
Pressing down on the womanâs artery, Gwendolyn immobilized her by pinning her arms onto the table.
She demanded, âWho sent you? What have you done to the police officers outside?â
Not only was the commotion loud, but the battle taking place in the room could also be partially seen through the small glass window in the ward.
However, the cops Cedrick had stationed outside the door did not come bursting in when they heard the commotion. Something must have happened to them.
The woman laughed. âItâs pointless to apprehend me. I know nothing. Iâm only here to do what Iâm being paid to do. The guards outside your door are dismissed and will not be back for another half an hour. Iâm not alone. There will be more of us here in another five minutes to take the child away. Even if you call your man, he wouldnât be able to make it here in time, would he?â
Gwendolyn glanced at Benedict, who was crying in the crib.
Her fury surged, and she fiercely yanked the womanâs hair. âWhy are you taking the baby away? Heâs so young. How could he have offended anyone?â
The womanâs scalp went numb from the pain, and between gasps and pants, she struggled to speak.
âHow would I know? Iâve already told you, capturing me is pointless. I donât know any secrets of my employer. If the child is too young to have done any harm, it must have been the adultsâ fault.â
Gwendolynâs expression turned cold as she continued pinning the woman without slackening her grip.
The mastermind was even aware of Benedictâs ward number and the specifics of his illness. It was clear that they had come prepared.
Is the mastermind an enemy of mine or Cedrickâs?
Having no time to ponder any further, Gwendolyn offered, âHow much is your employer paying you? Iâll triple it.â
The woman hesitated for a moment. âMadam, this is not about money,â she said, her tone conflicted.
âItâs a matter of honor and principles. If I were to betray my employer halfway through, who would ever trust me to work with them again?â
Gwendolyn sneered. âMy man is the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Now that Iâve captured you, do you really think you have any chance of escaping prison, let alone continuing your criminal activities?â
The woman remained adamant. âNo way. Iâm not that type of person. Iâm not going to cave no matter how much you offer me.â
âIâll pay you ten times.â
After a few seconds of silence, the woman clearly began to sway. âMaâam, I donât know who you are and why youâre so wealthy, but thisââ
Tired of hearing her chatter, Gwendolyn cut her off by raising the offer. âTwenty times.â
âDeal!â
The womanâs hostile demeanor gave way to an ingratiating one as she smiled cheerfully and said, âAs long as you keep your word, Boss, I will do whatever you want.â
Gwendolyn did not respond and loosened her grip on the woman.
While soothing Benedict, who was still crying pitifully, she analyzed the entire situation with a clear and composed mind.
The woman massaged her wrist, which hurt from Gwendolynâs firm grip, and began expressing her concern for her new employer.
âItâs been two minutes, Boss. Theyâll break into this place in another three minutes at most. Theyâre armed with tranquilizer guns and tasers, and weâre defenseless. Despite the generous payment you offered, I wonât be able to assist you.â
Gwendolyn remained composed and swiftly devised a plan. âI donât need you to openly declare your allegiance to me. Just do what they told you to do.â
âHuh?â The woman froze. She gazed at the baby in the other womanâs arms and appeared slightly dubious.
Given how much she cares about the child, would she really let me take him away and hold him hostage?
Three minutes later, five burly men clad in black suits entered the ward one at a time in order not to draw attention to themselves.
The woman clad in the nurseâs uniform had already tied Gwendolyn up and stuffed a towel into her mouth.
The disarray in the ward and the womenâs disheveled hair left no doubt that there had been a fierce battle even before they entered the door.
âWhat happened?â asked the man in the lead.
Panting heavily, the woman answered with a grin, âWe were too late. She had sent the baby to the attending physician, who seems to have entered the examination room and is not out yet. She came back to take something and ran into me here, so we ended up fighting.â
The man in the suit expressed his dissatisfaction, âWhy didnât you go and find the child and figure out a way to take him away? Why did you tie her up and stand guard here?â
âShe knows jiu-jitsu and is very skilled at that. What if she frees herself and seeks help once I leave?â
Appearing conflicted, the woman continued, âItâs your fault for arriving so late. Iâm all alone, so how can I handle both issues? She threatened me, claiming that her man is the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that Iâm in serious trouble.â
The man in the suit remained silent, his eyes flashing with displeasure beneath his shades.
The woman went on, âAnyway, Iâve tied her up. With our mission compromised, she cannot be released. We should just abduct her. I heard that the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mr.
Jenson, adores his wife. It would be more effective to abduct her instead of his child. I think he would even hand the entire Bureau to you if you demanded it.â
After a moment of silence, the man in the suit who seemed to be in charge shot a glance at the other guy beside him, signaling for the latter to make a call.
At once, the other man took his phone out to make a call and, upon obtaining approval from the other end, nodded at the leader of the group.
âTake her,â the leader ordered the woman who tied Gwendolyn up. âMaintain your disguise and go to the attending physician. Take these three with you. Just to be safe, weâll take both the child and the adult with us.â
âRoger that.â
In order to avoid drawing attention, Gwendolyn was blindfolded and hidden in a coarse, woven sack.
The men in suits swiftly disguised themselves as delivery workers, donned uniforms, acquired a cart, and discreetly transported the sack containing Gwendolyn, disguised among bags of onions and vegetables.
With the surveillance footage hacked, the group walked through the staff passageway unhindered.
Once inside the black van, they finally freed Gwendolyn from the sack and roughly threw her into the back.
However, the group didnât drive away immediately. They waited for the other team assigned to kidnap the baby.
Several minutes later, the leader received a text message.
His tone turned serious as he spoke, âThe situation has changed. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has heightened security at the hospital. It seems we wonât be able to take the child. Tell the team to withdraw. Letâs leave.â
