Chapter 580 I Will Obey Your Decision
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Cedrick struggled with the dilemma for half a minute.
He first called the police station and inquired about the reason for Gwendolynâs arrest.
He learned that Gwendolyn was detained in the interrogation room and unable to leave because she had left her bag and phone at Valentinoâs villa.
Together with Nico, he set off to the villa.
Kieran and the Jenson familyâs medical corps were giving Valentino an IV drip. It was a matter of time before the latter regained consciousness, as his condition was relatively stable after all.
After getting Nico to stay behind and keep watch, Cedrick grabbed Gwendolynâs phone and bag before heading to the police station to bail her out.
Feeling bored and frustrated, Gwendolyn felt that the police station was due for a shake-up.
Even though she knew that the police were beholden to the fact that Paul was Ospean royalty and had to do something for the sake of diplomatic relations, the two officers who were supposed to get her stuff from the Jenson residence had taken so long that she felt that they were doing it on purpose.
In fact, she wondered if the two officers who had taken her statement had actually sent anyone to the Jenson residence. They might very well be looking to detain her at the police station.
As she waited, her mind never stopped contemplating everything that was going on.
The more she thought about it, the more flaws there were ever since she abducted Annie and kept her in the basement of the Harris familyâs old villa.
She felt as if they were setting up traps for each other.
Just as she was lost in thought, the door to the interrogation room opened abruptly.
Gwendolyn, who was mired in her troubles, couldnât be bothered.
The person who entered kneeled down by her side and called out softly, âGwenny, Iâm back.â
That deep and familiar voiceâ¦
Gwendolyn lowered her head. She was greeted by the sight of Cedrick, the husband she had longed for who looked slightly more tanned than before.
Having not seen him for a couple of days, Gwendolyn was ecstatic over his sudden appearance.
âHubby, were the UV rays at the border really strong? Why do you look so tan?â
She stroked his face sympathetically, then leaned forward to give his dry lips a peck.
Cedrick gave her a tender look. âYes, UV rays are quite strong. I was worried you wouldnât like me anymore if I ended up looking too tanned, so I brought your sunscreen along and ended up in a better condition compared to Nico.â
Gwendolyn gave his cheek an affectionate pinch. âWell done. Iâm impressed!â
After they whispered sweet nothings to each other, Cedrick got to his feet and pulled Gwendolyn into his arms. âIâll get you out of here, Darling.â
Gwendolyn wrapped her arms around his neck and asked mischievously, âDo I not have to have my statement taken?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âDonât I have to show evidence that I didnât detain her illegally?â
âNo, you donât have to do anything at all. Iâve taken care of everything.â
Under everyoneâs watchful gazes, the love birds strode out of the police station while clinging intimately to each other as if they were the only ones there.
Gwendolyn got her phone back.
When she checked through her call history, she realized that Sienna and Inez had called her many times before Cedrickâs three missed calls.
On top of that, she saw three missed calls from a number with no caller ID.
Nonetheless, she was well aware that it belonged to Asher, as she had deleted his number some time ago.
There were also a ton of unread messages.
Sienna: Gwen, the police are here and insist on taking Annie away. Thereâs no way I can stop them.
Why arenât you answering your phone? Come home immediately once you read this, all right?
Inez: Gwendolyn, something has happened. Where are you?
Just as the car they were in was about to set off for the Jenson residence, Gwendolyn suggested to Cedrick grimly, âHubby, why donât you head home without me? I need to drop by Mount Tranquil first.â
Cedrick replied decisively, âIâll go with you.â
Gwendolyn declined, âI believe youâre already aware that Annie is actually Evelyn, so just let me deal with it. Grandpa must have lost consciousness after eating something that counteracts his medication.
Kieran and the Jenson familyâs medical corps are still investigating the exact cause, but I suspect someone is behind it. You should focus your efforts on getting to the bottom of it instead.â
Now that Cedrick was back, he was the best person to deal with the treacherous members of the family.
Once the result of the investigation was out, he would definitely punish the traitors severely.
As the head of the Jenson family, it was his prerogative to do so. Even though Gwendolyn was his wife, it would still be inappropriate for her to interfere in the matters of the Jenson family.
Based on the same logic, it would be equally out of place for Cedrick to involve himself in the affairs of the Harris family.
Gwendolyn felt that it was better for both of them to split up and take care of their respective family problems, and Cedrick understood her intention without it being explicitly stated.
âAll right, then. Iâll drop you off at Mount Tranquil before heading home.â
Gwendolyn nodded in agreement.
Due to the ongoing problems within the Jenson and Harris families, both of them sat in quiet contemplation inside the car.
Despite the serious mood, there was a feeling of unity between the two.
Once the luxury sedan they were in entered Mount Tranquil, Gwendolyn chose to alight in front of Asherâs villa.
At that moment, Sienna and Inez were discussing matters in the living room.
Upon knocking on the door and entering, Gwendolyn asked directly. âWhereâs Asher?â
Sienna replied, âEver since he learned that you were brought to the police station for questioning, heâs been making calls non-stop in his room, hoping to use his contacts to bail you out. Thank God youâre back safely now.â
Gwendolyn reassured Sienna with a slight smile. âDo you know where Annie was taken to?â
âAsher just found out. The police took her away and handed her over to Paul.â
Gwendolyn glanced at the time. Night had already fallen.
She checked for the next flight to Ospea from Salinsburgh Airport.
It was due to take off at eleven the same night.
Annie must be aware that she can no longer hide her identity. Sheâll try her best to leave Chanaea as soon as possible. In fact, Paul might already be at the airport with her. Once she returns to Ospea, which is Paulâs turf, she will be out of our reach. It will be impossible for us to bring her back then.
Gwendolyn analyzed the matter clearly in her mind. âWhich room is Asher in? Iâm going up to see him.â
âThe master bedroom.â
Gwendolyn headed upstairs. She knocked on the closed door before entering.
Asher was on the phone when she walked in. After he scrutinized her from head to toe and made sure she was unharmed, he was visibly relieved. He said to the person on the other end of the line, âItâs fine.
Sheâs already out.â
Upon ending the call, he watched as Gwendolyn approach him. âWhatâs wrong?â
âCheck the passenger manifest of the last flight tonight. If Paul and Annie are on it, use your network to detain them.â
Asher kept mum.
Gwendolyn opened her bag and threw the DNA test report Kieran had personally conducted at him.
Asher read the report curiously. When he saw the words âhalf-siblingâ in the bottom right corner, his eyes twitched slightly. Gwendolyn couldnât tell what he was thinking from his gaze.
However, whatever it was, it no longer mattered.
âAnnie Steinfeld is Evelyn Harris. I donât care if you know who she is, but this is your last chance. If you choose to help her, an illegitimate sister, instead of your own biological sisterâ¦â Gwendolyn enunciated every word of the result.
Even though she didnât finish her sentence, the contemptuous look in her eyes clearly conveyed her message.
Clenching the DNA test report, Asher looked into her eyes without hesitation. In a hoarse voice, he declared, âThereâs nothing to think about. Youâre the head of the family. Iâll obey your decision.â
