Chapter 500 Show No Bias
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Craigâs face clouded over as he stared at the arrest warrant.
âWhereâs your evidence?â
Nico was well-prepared for a situation like that. When he heard that demand, he handed over the comprehensive pile of evidence, Craig took it and scrutinized every piece of evidence.
Soon, he regained his composure.
âMr. Jenson, according to the evidence, Charles Newton is the one accusing me of using drugs. Heâs also accused me of attacking my imprisoned mother, drugging you, including the act of handing you the poison and the unknown serum. Heâs been leaving the country illegally over the past year. Perhaps heâs been bringing in illegal things from other countries. If it was he who murdered my mother, then all of his statements cannot be taken as evidence. Thereâs a possibility that he planned all of this,â argued Craig.
His eyes blazed with anger, and his aura was imposing, âSo, donât you think you should investigate Charles first?â
Cedrick was unfazed. âOf course, he should be investigated, but Charles hasnât been convicted yet.
Hence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will treat every statement fairly. Youâll be treated equally as a suspect, even if youâre a deputy director.â
Shooting Nico a look, Cedrick ordered, âTake the suspect away.â
âOkay.â Nico took out the cuffs and walked over to Craig, who remained still with an icy gaze.
Immediately, Karl summoned the bodyguards to stand in front of Craig, blocking Nico off.
Nico questioned, âWhat are you doing, Craig? I am sure you know that resisting an arrest and obstructing. official duties is a serious crime. Youâre a deputy director. Shouldnât you lead by example?â
Still, Craig kept his silence. That was when Karl tactfully stepped forward to explain, âMr. Jenson, Mr.
Nico, Mr. Craig has just lost his mother. Could you give him some time to settle Mrs. Newtonâs funeral before taking him away for investigation?â
The expressionless Cedrick voiced, âWhatâs the rush? Mrs. Newtonâs death was unnatural. The most important thing to do now is to let someone look into the cause as soon as possible so the Newton family could be given an explanation.â
His tone was stern, and it left no room for negotiation.
At that, Nico moved his hand to the miniature walkie-talkie in the shape of a military uniform button and said softly. âCome here. Mr. Newton refuses to leave. So, we need you guys to take him to the interrogation room.â
It took less than two minutes for Neville and Swain to arrive at the Newton residence with two troops.
The two groups of men marched in with such an intimidating aura that even the ground shook.
All of a sudden, the bodyguards shielding Craig seemed weak and powerless.
With an arrogant snort, Nico asked, âAre you sure you want to refuse getting investigated? You know what Mr. Jensonâs temper is like. Once he snaps, youâll be brought over, even if it means tying you up.
Thatâll be Craigâs expression grew stern, and his fists concealed by the long sleeves were clenched so tightly that the veins bulged.
However, he quickly calmed himself and told the bodyguards to make way. Taking two steps forward, he held his hands out to Nico and said to Cedrick, âPlease get to the bottom of this as soon as possible so I can bury my mother.â
A confident smirk played on Cedrickâs lips. âOf course)
With that, Cedrick strode over and took the electronic cuffs from Nico to place them over Craigâs wrists.
That showed how seriously the former took the deputy director.
âTake him away.â
As soon as Cedrick gave the order in an authoritative tone, both Nico and Neville shoved Craig into the armed vehicle.
âMr. Newtonâ¦â Karl called out in concern as he watched the troops leave. In the next second, he went back into the villa and gathered all the housekeepers and bodyguards in the backyard.
few âMr. Newtonâs been taken to the interrogation room for questioning, but he should be returning in days since heâs a deputy director. Please be careful with how you answer the questions asked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Youâll be done for once you slip up, and even the heavens wonât be able to help you. Do you understand?â
The housekeepers and the bodyguards nodded fervently in fear.
Soon, Craig was locked up in an interrogation room which was two doors next to Charles.
After dropping Craig off at his room, both Cedrick and Nico paid Charles a visit.
When the heavy door was pushed open, they were greeted by the sight of Charles sitting cross-legged on. the warm mattress. His sleeves were rolled up as he applied the medicine to the cane marks on his hand.
Scabby, bloody scars overlapped the old scars on his muscular arm, turning the once good-looking arm into a horrifying sight.
Charles merely looked up halfheartedly when the two walked in, but he never stopped applying the medicine.
âWhy are you guys here so early? Did you arrest Craig already?â
Cedrick only gave a hum in response.
A suspicious smile tugged at Charlesâ lips. âThen whatâs with your expressions? You should be caning him. until at least five canes break.â
The stern expression on Cedrickâs face did not change, and he did not say a word.
Taking the silence as his cue, Nico explained. âMrs. Newton has passed on. Craig has just lost his mother. For humanitarian reasons, now isnât the time to torture him.â
Charlesâ arm jerked, and he stopped applying the medicine.
âHe lost his mother? What happened?â
Both Cedrick and Nico exchanged a knowing look.
Finally, Nico sighed and pointed out. âSomething happened at the Newton residence. Mrs. Newton was found dead in her room this morning. Possibilities of suicide and natural death were ruled out. Craig suspects it was you who poisoned her when you stole the keys to go to the top floor.â
Charles scoffed lightly. âHah! A pot calling a kettle black. Looks like he knows he was going to get exposed and decided to get me involved.â
Nico mocked casually, âOh, he has no plans to die yet. Well, he tried to wipe out all the evidence I collected today.â
Meanwhile, Cedrick leaned against the back of the chair silently, his expression solemn.
Charles snickered and shook his head before turning to Cedrick. âDo you believe his words?â
Cedrick looked up coldly to meet the manâs eyes. âI believe in the evidence. I wonât be biased, nor will I let you bear the consequences of something you didnât do.â
âOkay. Thatâs all I need to know. Iâll never feel guilty for something I never did.â
With that, the trio continued chatting for a little while!
That included Charles recounting the details of what happened that night at the welcome party to Cedrick.
Several minutes later, Cedrick exited the interrogation room and got into the vehicle owned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Nico stared at Cedrick, the suspicion in his eyes apparent. âCedrick, do you really believe Charlesâ
words.â
There was an unfathomable gaze in Cedrickâs eyes as he asked, âWhat are your thoughts?â
After mulling it over, Nico explained his inferences. âI believe Charles has nothing much to do with Mrs.
Newtonâs death. Thereâs no need for him to do such a thing, but I find it suspicious that heâs willing to help you and Gwendolyn steal the serum from the Newton residence. He contributed a lot this time and was tortured by Craig because of this. Yet, he never asked you for anything in return. Thatâs what I find weird. Itâs as if heâs hiding something.â
The corners of Cedrickâs lips tugged into a smile.
After all, Nico shared his thoughts.
Cedrick then turned to look at the constantly changing scenery outside the window, and said casually, âOne must acquire either authority or women. Heâs considered an outstanding man in Chanaca.
Thereâs no way an arrogant man like him would willingly stay in a mountain village to be a teacher. Iâm guessing he came back this time to set the Newton family up.â
