Chapter 488 Kill The Two Love Birds
Wooing My Ex-Wife
âMomâs not feeling well recently. Itâs just a small party, so I donât want to tire her out.â
With a sweet smile, Summer said flatteringly, âYouâre so filial, Mr. Newton. The Newton family will definitely rise to greatness under your leadership.â
âThank you for your compliment.â
Craig gave her a polite smile.
The housekeeper who had gone up to look for Charles rushed back soon. âMr. Craig, Mr. Charles isnât in his room. I donât know where he is. I canât find him.â
A grim expression immediately descended upon Craigâs face. He scolded in a low voice, âHow can a person like him disappear into thin air before the welcome party? Look for him now!â
âYes!â
The housekeeper spun around and ran away.
Nico and Summer exchanged a look.
As if realizing something. Summer quickly changed the topic of conversation. âMr. Newton, are you the only one organizing todayâs welcome party? The decorations are so exquisite! Can I learn from you?â
Nico chimed in, âWhatâs up. Mr. Newton? Itâs such a great day. Why do you look so unhappy?â
The vicious look in Craigâs eyes disappeared as he continued to smile politely.
Just when he was about to answer Summerâs question, he saw Karl rush over hurriedly.
âMr. Craigâ¦â
Gwendolyn stopped Karl in the middle. âKarl, whereâs Jasmine? Why didnât I see her? She loves lively scenes like this.â
Since he was facing her, he had no choice but to suppress his look of panic. âMs. Jasmine is probably still dressing up in her room. Mr. Craig bought a new pair of crystal earrings for her a few days ago.
Sheâs probably torn between which pair to wear.â
Gwendolyn smiled. âI see.â
âYes, Mrs. Jenson. Well, I need to tell Mr. Craig something urgent, so Iâll have to leave you for now.â
When Karl took a few steps to the side, Gwendolyn mirrored his actions and blocked him from Craigâs view.
âThe Newton residence is huge, Karl. I canât find Jasmineâs room. Can you please bring me there?â
âWellâ¦â
Gwendolyn continued, âSince the housekeepers in the Newton residence are new, I donât recognize any of them. Youâre the one most familiar with me. Since Mr. Craig is busy hosting the guests, you can talk to him about anything urgent after the welcome party.â
Karl was conflicted for a while. He turned his head and observed that situation at Craigâs side.
Since Craigâs attention seemed to be fully drawn to Nico and Summer, he had no choice but to give up.
âOkay, Mrs. Jenson. Please follow me.â
âThank you.â
A minute later, Cedrick walked out of the villa. He first stood by the door and scanned everyone in the garden. Finally, his gaze stopped on Cedrick.
As if noticing his stare, Cedrick returned his gaze silently.
Craig, who was stuck chatting with Nico and Summer endlessly, was almost running out of patience.
When he saw Charles showing up, he immediately dismissed Nico and Summer. With steady steps, he strode over and demanded. âWhy did you only come down now? Where were you earlier?â
Charles lowered his head and answered obediently, âI donât know what happened but my stomach was hurting. I spent quite some time in the toilet.â
After all, it was a biological need. Although Craig was extremely displeased, he could not possibly reprimand Charles in front of everyone.
Suppressing his unhappiness, Craig continued. âHow are the preparations going? You are only allowed to succeed, okay? No failures are permitted. Understood?â
âYes. Donât worry, Craig. Iâll do it perfectly.â
Barely satisfied with Charlesâ attitude, Craig snorted coldly.
It was time to formally start the party. Craig immediately switched to a friendly smile as he walked stage.
Gwendolyn also dragged Jasmine, who had finally finished dressing up, down the stairs.
The distinguished guests were sitting around the round tables in the garden.
Craig delivered a five-minute welcoming address in a dignified manner.
Meanwhile, Charles stood at the side quietly, playing his role as the obedient younger brother.
Since it was a formal event, he had shaved his mustache, making him look much younger.
Although his skin was much rougher than before due to the harsh times that he had experienced, it was not obvious under the dim glow of the night. He was as dazzling as before.
After his speech, Charles followed Craigâs instructions and toasted around each table.
Considering Cedrickâs power in Chanaea, he was naturally the first person to receive the toast.
When Charles walked toward the table slowly, Craig trailed behind silently. He seemed like a good brotherly figure who was worried that his younger brother would not do a good job.
âMr. Jenson, too many things have happened between us. Itâs all because I was too immature then.
Tonight, I wish to personally apologize to you with a toast. I hope that youâll let bygones be bygones and accept my toast,â said Charles with a smile.
The housekeepers behind were holding a tray of expensive red wine and empty wine glasses. Charles poured a glass of wine for Cedrick personally.
An unknown white powder was also mixed with the red wine as he poured it into the glass.
Craig, who was standing behind Charles, noticed all of his actions. A calm look resumed in Craigâs eyes.
âHere, Mr. Jenson. After drinking this roast, letâs let bygones be bygones.â
Cedrickâs expression was still cold. Not only did he refuse to take the glass, but he also remained silent. It was as if Charles was as invisible as the air.
Charles brought the glass to Gwendolyn âGwen, Mr. Jensonâs unwilling to accept my toast. I heard that he listens to you the most. Considering our years of friendship, can you please put in some good words with Mr. Jenson?â
Gwendolyn was the peacemaker in this act.
She turned her head around and looked at Cedrick. âHubby, itâs just a glass of wine. It doesnât mean anything much. If you donât drink it, his toasting for the night will be stuck at the first round. Drink it.
Why donât we drink half each?â
Due to Gwendolyn, Cedrick agreed reluctantly.
With his back bent respectfully, Charles lifted the glass of wine, which served as an apology.
When Cedrick extended his arm to receive it, Gwendolyn snatched the glass first. As agreed earlier, she drank half first.
While she was drinking, Charles cast his gaze downward. Colorful lamps hung in the dark garden.
Although it was impossible to see his expression, one could clearly tell how calm he was.
Craig frowned, his sharp observation telling him that something was not right.
After Charles went finished the round of toasting with all the guests, Craig dragged him to an isolated corner and demanded softly, âDid you play any tricks?â
Charles was confused. âWhat do you mean, Craig?â
Craig smiled coldly. âI understand your personality. Youâve pursued Gwendolyn all your life. How can you remain so unaffected while watching her drink that glass of wine?â
That drug, which was a forbidden drug purchased from overseas, was extremely potent.
Charles was just watching the woman he loved so much drink the wine to help him out without showing any intentions of stopping her.
Laughter from the guests echoed across the garden endlessly while a few bodyguards stood at discreet.
Furious, Craig immediately wrapped his hands around Charlesâ neck tightly. âIf you dare to toy around.
with me, I can put you under hellish torture as easily as Iâve let you return to the Newton family so grandly!â
Enduring the suffocating pain, Charles replied without a change in his expression, âI didnât stop her because I wish that the two of them will die together!â
