Chapter 422
The Broken Warrior's Daughter
Double Grace update!
Chapter 0422 When we park and exit our vehicles, we are greeted by my fatherâs mate. She is clutching my half- brother to her chest and has a fading bruise on her cheekbone. Iâm familiar with the look of a womanâs face after my fatherâs beatings. | saw it on my motherâs face for over a year.
| walk up to her, carefully taking in my surroundings. There should be others here, if not in greeting, at least as a show of force.
Where is everyone?
âLuna. Iâm sorry, | didnât get your name last week.â
âLuna Grace. Iâm Paisley. | am no longer Luna of this pack. | rejected my mate after last weekend.â
| lower my voice, putting a hand on her arm gently. âAre you alright?â
She nods, tears in her eyes. âPlease believe me, | didnât know.â She whispers with a shaky voice.
â| know. As | said last week, you are welcome to come with us to our pack. Alpha Eli and | w accept you.â | turn, lifting my arm toward Eli so he would know to come join us.
âAs my Luna said last week, you are more than welcome in our pack.â Eli assures her.
âWhat is my brotherâs name?â | ask, looking at the toddler sleeping in his motherâs arms.
Her smile is genuine. âThis is Levi.â | pat his back before looking around.
âWhere is everyone?â
Her smile drops. âThey are out back waiting for you.â Her voice drops. âPlease be careful He knows he canât defeat you oneâonâ
one.
âDonât worry, weâve brought witnesses and an elder.â | point to Anders and her eyes widen.
âThis way, and please excuse the mess.â
âMess' is not the word | would have used. While the outside of the packhouse is pristine, the inside is in shambles. It looked like someone had taken a sledgehammer to it.
âAlpha Edgar was on edge after your meeting last week and then, after 1, well, now heâs not exactly thinking clearly.â
We walk through the dark packhouse to the back. | can see that the entire pack has been called to watch the fight. They are standing around and the anxiety in the air is palpable.
âFinally, the unworthy brat arrives to try and take what is mine.â | hear my fatherâs voice, dripping with contempt, as | step outside. | can see him swinging swords around as it practicing for a sword fight. When he looks at me, his eyes look wild. | donât know which was more devastating. realizing that Iâm alive and a Guardian or being rejected by his mate. Regardless, my father looks.
like heâs gone mad.
Eli steps up on one side of me, and Anders on the other. âAlpha Edgar. You are aware that weapons are not allowed during a challenge. You may battle as a human or a wolf, but weapons will immediately disqualify you.â
Anders says.
My fatherâs lip curls in a snarl as he turns his gaze from Anders to me. âYou brought an elder.â
â| didnât trust that you would fight fair, Alpha. It's not like you haven't hidden the horrible things that you've done in your past from the pack.â
My focus had been on my father since | stepped outside, but as | look around the pack, | can see that they are all shocked to see that Iâm still alive. | donât know what my father told them about me leaving the pack, but he must not have told them that it was me that was challenging him today.
As | look, my heart breaks for my old pack members. They all look disheveled and in disarray. They are dirty, their clothes look old and tattered and they look like they havenât been fed properly in a while.
âToday, | come to take back what is rightfully mine, father. As the true heir to the Laurel River Pack, | challenge you, Edgar Winters, to a duel for the right to lead this pack.â
| step forward as my father tosses his swords aside. | have come dressed to fight, in a sports bra and leggings. | choose to fight barefoot, in case | need to shift. My father looks like a human soldier. Heâs covered in padding and clothing, which will make it difficult for him to shift.
Myp pack follows behind me, closing the circle around my father and me. | take a deep breath and wait for him. | donât expect that it will take long, and Iâm not disappointed. He rushes at me, swinging his arms. The clothing heâs wearing is limiting his range of motion and | easily sidestep, swinging a punch around to his back which sends him stumbling to the ground.
| turn, waiting for him to get up. Heâs heaving, like we've been fighting for hours. He pulls off the top layer of clothing, giving himself more freedom of movement. âYou always were a bitch, just like your whore of a mother.â
He comes at me again, this time he aims for my face. | block his punch, throwing an uppercut of my own and knocking his head back with a snap. He stumbles backward but doesnât fall. âThe only whore around here, is you, Alpha.â
He snarls at me, spit flying from his mouth as he comes at me again. He looks rabid and crazed, his eyes wide, his pupils dilated almost to black. This time he swings his leg out, trying to knock me to the ground. | jump over his leg, swinging my own around and kicking him in his head.
+15 BONDS | stand back, letting him get back up. He wipes his face with his hand, before spitting blood on the ground.
âYou canât have what is mine.â He snarls, flying at me again. This time, he pulls a knife from somewhere inside his pants, stabbing me in my stomach. âDie bitch.â He says and | can smell his rancid breath heâs so close. | hear Eli yelling from behind me.
| grab him, so he canât step back. âIâm a Guardian. Iâm immune to wolfsbane and resistant to silver, you poor excuse for an Alpha.â
| take my hand, punching it into his chest. Maiaâs claws extend and wrap around his heart, and | know her eyes are glowing in mine. | can feel his heart beating in my hand and his eyes widen as he realizes heâs about to die.
âDo you feel that, Alpha? That feeling that someone is about to rip your heart from your chest? That's the feeling my mother had every day for years, you son of a bitch.â
| rip my fatherâs heart out of his chest, letting him fall to the ground at my feet.
