Chapter 44
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 44 When the Davis family left the Rosewood residence, none of them were in a good mood.
Scott and Bella saw them off while only Elysia and Emma were left in the living room.
âWhy did you do that?â Emma hesitated for a moment, but the question slipped out.
Elysia shot her a sideways glance with a smirk on her face. âWhy? Donât you want me to do that?â
âWhy would I want you to do that?â Emma said.
Elysia said, âDonât you want to be Robertâs fiancée? If I donât agree, you might be able to marry into the Davis family.â
Emma froze. She didnât believe that Elysia would be so kind, but she couldnât think of any other proper explanation. She thought, âCould it be that she didnât like Robert?â
Emma had guessed right. Elysia didnât like Robert at all, which was why she had refusedânothing to do with helping Emma.
Matthew had made it clear with his words earlierâEmma wasnât good enough to be his daughterâinâlaw. Even if Elysia refused the Davis family, it was still uncertain whether Emma would marry Robert.
When Scott returned after seeing the Davis family off, he pointed at Elysia and shouted, âWhatâs wrong with you?â
Bella tugged at Scottâs sleeve. âCalm down. Even if Elysia canât get into the Davis family, we still have Emma.â
This was Bellaâs true intention. She tried to calm Scott down, not out of kindness, but because Elysia had rejected the marriage proposal from the Davis family. This meant her dear daughter Emma still had a chance to marry into the Davis family.
She considered herself a good mother, always planning for Emmaâs future. However, her perspective was too simple. Even without Elysia, the Davis family might not accept Emma.
Scott shook off Bellaâs hand and snapped sharply, âDo you think itâs that simple? Why do you think the Davis family didnât bring up the engagement until after Elysia returned to the Rosewood residence? They were interested in her.
âDidnât you hear what Matthew was implying? They donât want Emma! Got it?â
Bella finally understood. Indeed, Matthew had subtly hinted earlier that Emma, as an adopted daughter, could never marry into the Davis family. The fact that she couldnât get in meant that even if Elysia didnât, Emma wouldnât have the chance either.
The marriage agreement between the Davis and Rosewood families might just come to an end.
When Scottâs words hit, Emmaâs heart ached once again. She felt sad that the Davis family didnât want her all because she was adopted. She thought, âWhy did Elysia get everything so easily? And why could she just reject it all with a simple word?â
Elysia, used to Scottâs outbursts, just looked at him coldly, a smirk tugging at her lips. âI have my reason for doing this. Do you want to hear it, Dad? Maybe youâll be pleased.â
Scott frowned, still skeptical. âWhat is it?â
Elysia said, âWe can talk about it in the study.â
âFine,â Scott said.
Only Bella and Emma remained in the living room. Unable to hold it in any longer, Emma burst into tears, clinging to Bella. âMom, why am I not your biological daughter?â
Bella held her close, her face filled with sorrow. âSorry, dear. I failed you.â
Meanwhile, in the study, Scott rubbed his forehead, looking exhausted. âAlright, tell me your reason.â
Elysia smiled gently before speaking. âThe Davis family does have roots in Sivro, but they rarely get involved in business matters. The key point is that if you compare them to other powerful families, they really donât stand out at all.
âDonât you want me to marry into a family with more power? A family that could bring much more benefit to the Rosewood family than the Davis family ever could.â
Scott turned to Elysia. He had thought about it before. Given Elysiaâs pretty looks, she could marry into a prestigious family, and it would certainly 1/2 +23 12:02 PM Chapter 44 be ideal. However, it wasnât that easy.
Noticing the frown on Scottâs face, Elysia added, âWhy not take a gamble, Dad?â
Scott finally lifted his gaze and nodded. âDonât disappoint me.â
Elysiaâs heart turned cold. Hearing Scott say that, she felt a pang of disappointment. She thought, âCould any father really want his daughter to go down this path?â
When she spoke, she secretly hoped Scott would scold her, but he didnât. Instead, he supported her. It seemed that, to Scott, a daughter was merely a stepping stone.
At 7 p.m., when Elysia arrived at Stellar Restaurant, Zane was already waiting for her. As soon as he saw her, he gentlemanly pulled out a chair for her.
Elysia sat down and took a look around the restaurant. Oddly enough, the vast space seemed to be entirely quiet except for the two of them. âDid he reserve the entire place?â she thought.
âWhat are you looking at?â Zane asked when he noticed her glancing around.
Elysia blinked, caught off guard, and then apologized, feeling a little embarrassed. âNothing. By the way, why did you ask me out tonight?â âLetâs eat first.â As soon as Zane finished speaking, a waiter brought out a tray of dishes. Zane said, âThese are the specialties of the restaurant. I didnât know what you like, so I ordered one of everything. We can always try more.â
Elysia watched as dishes were placed on the table one by one, filling it completely. She shook her head. âThis should be enough.â
As she saw the spread Zane had arranged for her, her curiosity about what he wanted to discuss grew even more. âSo, why did you ask me here today?â
Zane paused for a moment, set down his fork, and asked, âDo you know Ada?â
Hearing the name, Elysia froze for a moment, wondering why Zane was bringing her up. She quickly composed herself and asked, âWhat do you want?â
Zane said, âMy mother is a huge fan of Ada. I want to ask her to design a dress for her as a birthday gift, but I canât seem to get in touch with her.â
âHow do you think I would know Ada?â asked Elysia.
Zane said, âWe met before, at the Scented Garden. You were wearing a white dress, and if Iâm not mistaken, the dress was Adaâs work.â
He was talking about the day Elysia went to see Nicole, and she had indeed been wearing a white dress that she designed herself. She was surprised that Zane had recognized it right away.
Elysia said, âI do know Ada. I can help you with that.â
Hearing Elysiaâs response, Zane smirked. He wasnât sure what kind of relationship Elysia had with Ada, but her agreement to help him had already fulfilled his goal.
Zane said, âThank you, Elysia.â
The way Zane called her that, so affectionately, caught her off guard. And once again, her heart was pounding violently.
Iâ
