Chapter 374
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 374 Chapter 374 At Lindseyâs words, Jim, who had been staring at the floor, finally lifted his head and looked at her. âLindseyâ he said softly âDonât call me that,â Lindsey said, her voice sharp. âWhen I was little, you never cared about me. What makes you think you have any right to now?â
Jimâs face tightened. âBut I gave you life.â
âLife?â Lindsey let out a bitter laugh. âThatâs the only thing youâve ever done for me. Donât push me. If you want, Iâll just call you Mr. Evans from now on.â
âLindsey!â Jimâs voice rose, but he quickly forced himself to calm down. âFine. I admit it. After Ashley came into the picture, I neglected you. But before that, I never mistreated you.â
Lindsey let out a short, cold laugh. âNever? So, in your eyes, ignoring me and pretending I donât exist isnât mistreatment? Wow, I really learned something new today.â
She laughed bitterly again. âRight, we barely saw each other, so how could you mistreat me? As long as you didnât hurt me physically, you thought you were in the clear, right? I used to think I was born without a father?â
She locked eyes with him, and the coldness in her gaze could freeze the room.
Jim froze. He stared at her, his mouth opening, but no words came out.
He knew everything she said was the truth.
He never liked Sierra, and by extension, he never liked her daughter. Even though he never physically hurt her, he barely ever showed up for her. He didnât offer her care or attention.
Whenever they did cross paths, he had a cold, distant look on his face, never bothering to show her any kindness.
Then, after he met Ashley and they had Esther, he spent even more time with them. As Lindsey reached school age, their meetings became fewer and fewer. Eventually, it seemed like Lindsey stopped showing up altogether.
Esther, who had been watching the exchange with a serious look on her face, now felt a tightening in her chest. She was upset.
Something inside her felt threatened.
She grabbed Jimâs arm, her voice soft but pleading. âDad, after everything sheâs said to you, youâre still not going to do anything?
If you donât punish her, sheâs going to take your place in this house. Is that what you want?â
Jim didnât respond, keeping his head down. He didnât want to engage with Esther. She didnât understand, and he wasnât about to get dragged into her drama.
Lindsey was different now. If he made things worse with her, it could hurt him down the road Jim had always been weak. But with Lindsey, he had a strong ally. They might not be able to compete with Edwardâs family, but at least they were stronger than they had been before.
Jimâs gaze stayed on Lindsey, his thoughts racing. If he lost her, heâd be losing a powerful ally.
When Jim still didnât say anything, Esther started to panic. âDad, why arenât you saying anything?â
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she stared at him, desperate for a response. When he still stayed silent, she quickly turned to Lindsey, her anger flaring up again.
Lindsey was smiling.
1/3 10:19 Fri, 21 Mar Chapter 374 She was actually smiling at her.
That smile on Lindseyâs face was so annoying that it made Estherâs blood boil.
âLindsey, donât get so cocky. Just because Dad isnât punishing you doesnât mean heâs forgotten youâre still his daughter,â Esther snapped, her voice sharp.

âDaughter?â Lindseyâs smile widened, and she almost laughed. She wasnât stupid. She knew exactly what Jim was trying to do -
he was trying to use her. She wouldnât let that happen.
She stepped closer to Jim, her voice turning cold. âMr. Evans, you better not think you can use me. My blood might run through your veins, but Iâm nothing like you. I know right from wrong, and I know how to appreciate what Iâm given.â
Jim suddenly looked up at her, his eyes locking with hers. He was stunned as he thought, âShe knows? And Mr. Evans? Just a minute ago, she was calling me âFather,â and now this? Why the sudden change?
âLindsey,â Jim said, his voice tight.
âIâm tired. Iâm going to my room,â Lindsey said quickly, not waiting for his reply. She turned, ready to walk away.
But just then, Estherâs voice cut through the air. âGoing to your room? You still remember this is your home, huh? Look at how you just spoke to Dad!â
Lindsey paused and turned back, her eyes narrowing. âEsther, you just love causing trouble, donât you? Go ahead. Keep it up.
And as for this house, if a bastard like you can live here, why canât I?â
Esther opened her mouth, ready to scream back, but before she could get another word out, Jimâs voice rang out, stern and full of fury. âEsther, how dare you speak to your sister like that?â
His face was dark with anger, his brows knitted together. He was clearly livid.
Esther, still seething, had no choice but to bite her tongue. If she kept going, she knew Jimâs anger would turn on her, not Lindsey.
And that was when it hit Esther. Jim was clearly taking Lindseyâs side.
The room went silent. The tension hung in the air, heavy and thick. The faces around the room were all dark, except for Lindsey, who looked completely unfazed.
Lindseyâs lips curled into a small smile as she turned and headed upstairs. But instead of going to her room, she made her way to Oliveâs room.
She knocked softly on the door. The maid, who was always by Oliveâs side, opened it. The maid lowered her head slightly and said in a polite tone, âMs. Lindsey Evans, Mrs. Olive Evansâs been waiting for you.â
Lindsey nodded, and the maid quickly stepped aside to let her in. Once Lindsey entered the room, the maid quietly closed the door behind her and left.
Olive was sitting on the couch. When she heard the door, she didnât turn around. She just said in a calm voice, âYouâre back?â
Lindsey stood there, gazing at Olive on the couch, her eyes starting to well up. She had thought about Olive every single day when she was overseas.
If it werenât for Olive, she wouldnât have had the chance to go abroad. She wouldnât have made it in that foreign country far from home.
Her life wouldâve been a hundred, no, a thousand times harder.
When Olive didnât get a response, she finally turned her head and looked over. Seeing the tears in Lindseyâs eyes, Olive 2/3 Chapter 374 raised an eyebrow. âWhatâs going on? Did they bully you?â
She was referring to Jim, Ashley, and Esther.
Lindsey stayed silent, her tears barely held back. Olive quickly stood up, her tone sharp. Lindsey, donât cry. Iâll go son des out right now.â
She started to move, but Lindsey wiped her tears and rushed over to stop her. âDonât worry, I can handle it now. They ca bully me anymore.â
Olive relaxed, her hand gently brushing Lindseyâs hair with a loving smile. âYouâve grown up. Lindsey, Youâre not that inde girl anymore, the one everyone could push around.â
âGrandma, from now on, Iâll protect you,â Lindsey said seriously, her voice firm.
Olive tapped her lightly on the forehead. âSilly girl, who needs you to protect me? As long as you can take care of your thatâs enough. But I saw you earlier. You were fierce. Not bad. It reminds me of myself when I was young âGrandma, you saw all of that?â Lindsey asked, her eyes wide with surprise, âOf course I saw it,â Olive replied, a smile tugging at her lips.
She explained, âI didnât catch everything, just bits and pieces. I heard you were back, and I was going to come down and see you. But before I even made it halfway down the stairs, I heard Esther crying and complaining to your father?
Olive chuckled, shaking her head. âI thought about going down and telling them off. I couldnât let them just bully you without a fight. But youâve got quite the sharp tongue yourself.â
She smiled mischievously. âI figured it was better to let you handle it. If I had gone down there, theyâd probably just ask me to get involved again. So, I stayed in my room and let you work your magic.â
