When Robert dropped that bomb, everyone in the room about jumped outta their skin. They didnât see that one coming. Calculus was touched on in high school, but it was all surfaceâlevel stuff.
But Robert was a different story. Heâd been in a bunch of math competitions and had been teaching himself advanced math, including calculus, for a while. He knew his stuff.
However, even if Elysia was sharp, her calculus knowledge was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Everyone thought Robertâs choice was pure genius. It looked like Elysia might finally get the boot from Class 1.
As everyone waited for Elysia to embarrass herself, she stayed as cool as a cucumber.
âHeâs showing off with calculus like itâs a big deal, Oh well, my good student. Just watch how Iâm gonna beat you!â Elysia thought to herself.
For some reason, even though Elysia was going up against Robert. Justin had this gut feeling she was gonna win. Maybe he didnât even realize it himself, but his attitude toward her was changing bit by bit.
âWhoâs gonna give us the question?â Elysia asked, raising an eyebrow.
One guy shot his hand up right away and said, âTll do it!â With that, he whipped out his phone and started searching for a calculus problem that was super tough.
The students around him leaned in. Finally, they settled on one and copied it onto the blackboard When the competition started, Elysia didnât pick up her chalk.
Everyone looked at her with confusion. âIs she really unsure? Or is she giving Robert ten seconds?â
Out of curiosity, Robert asked, âArenât you gonna answer?â
âIâm giving you a twentyâsecond head start!â Elysia said, her voice full of confidence.
The crowd thought, âWhat the heck! Thatâs so cocky! She only gave Bianca ten seconds, but Robert got twenty! Who does she think sheâs dissing? Does she even know that Robert ranks higher than Bianca? Or does she think Robert is less capable than Bianca?
Elysia wanted to make it clear that she didnât think that way at all The extra their mentorâmentee bond. It was her gift to him.
a ten seconds she gave Robert were purely due to Robertâs face darkened, and he was in a really bad mood. He stopped writing on the blackboard and looked at Flysia, saying. âI donât need your head start.â
Elysia thought, Oh, feisty! Just donât cry when you lose.
Twenty seconds passed, and they both started writing at the sain time.
At first, both of them looked relaxed. But halfway through, Robertâs face turned really ugly. He hit a snag in his calculations Just as he was about to go back and find the mistake, Elysia put down her chalk, which meant he had lost 14:20 Tue, Jan 28 Chapter 301 1619 The students in the audience were all shocked. They couldnât fully understand the answers on the blackboard, but they had feeling that Elysia had won.
Elysia turned to the guy who had given the question and said calmly, âTime to grade us!â
The guy snapped out of it and quickly compared the answer on his phone with the one on the blackboard. Although the steps were a bit different in some places, the final answer was the same. It was clear that Elysia had won.
Everyone was at a loss for words and silently lowered their heads.
Bianca clenched her fists, thinking, âHow did she win again? Why Elysia looked at Bianca and said with a teasing smile, âDonât forget what you promised me. Youâre even worse than... a bad apple... Bianca.â With that, she walked straight back to her seat.
Biancaâs body shook violently. She felt like Elysia was mocking her, saying she wasnât even as good as a bad apple.
Seeing this, the other students also returned to their seats.
The bell rang, signaling the start of class. The teacher walked in with a textbook and began the lesson.
Elysia took out a piece of paper from her desk and continued writing her novel. She was just getting to the part where the protagonists met.
Unconsciously, the image of the male lead popped into her mingâhis deep eyes and his sharply defined features, dressed in a black suit.
âWait a minute, this guy... Why is it Zane? Why am I thinking of him? Iâm going crazy. Donât get lost in his good looks!â she thought, warning herself mentally, and then, she forcefully pushed Zaneâs image out of her mind.
The bell rang out, and the schoolâs PA system crackled to life, calling Elysia to the principalâs office.
A buzz of excitement spread through the students. They were al thinking, âDid Elysia get in some kind of trouble? If sheâs getting a talkingâto, thatâs totally partyâworthy!
In the principalâs office, Levi leaned back in his chair and said, âysia, I heard you nodded off during the Language and Composition exam.â
Elysiaâs brow furrowed as she took in Leviâs words. âWhyâs he suddenly all up in my business about napping in exams?â She just nodded, keeping her thoughts to herself.
âElysia, youâve got great grades, but exams are serious business. Hereâs the deal. Iâve got an extra set of papers here for you to tackle.â Levi said, pulling out a stack of papers and sliding them deross the desk to Elysia.
Elysia flipped through them nonchalantly and then raised an eyebrow. âAre these for a Liberal Arts student?â
Levi coughed and explained a little sheepishly, âThe teaching crew all agreed you should give the Liberal Arts test a shot, Take it seriously. No slackingâ
Levi hadnât started off with this plan. It was more about the Liberal Arts classes not hitting the mark gradeâwise.
Wayne Fletcher, the Liberal Arts track head, figured having Ely take their monthly exam could give the students a boost. If she nailed it, theyâd post her results as motivation.
14:20 Tue, Jan 28 OU Chapter 30 Thinking about it, if a STEM student like Elysia could dominate Liberal Arts test, itâd be a real wakeâup call for those classes.
Theyâd have to step up their game to save face.
61%2 Î It was like giving them a goal. Without it, they might just keep floating in their own bubble, clueless that there was a whole world of competition out there.
Elysia tossed the papers onto the desk. Tâm not doing it.â
âElysia, this is a golden opportunity. Are you sure you wanna pay it up? Think about it. A good score and your nameâs on the Liberal Arts track honor roll. Thatâs some serious bragging rights Levi urged.
âIâm good, Elysia said, shrugging it off.
âElysia, donât shut the door on this. Give it some thought, Levi coaxed.
Elysia pondered for a beat and then spoke up. âIf I do this, will you do something for me in return?â
âWhat do you need?â Levi inquired.
âI want to switch classes,â Elysia said flatly. She was over the daily drama in Class 1. They didnât want her around, and she was tired of the mind games. It was time to make a move. There would be less hassle and more peace.
Leviâs face scrunched up in confusion. âWhatâs wrong with Class 1?â
Elysia wanted to say plenty. They were all about the grades and the glory, and she was over that scene. She couldnât see the friendship in the crowd. With graduation still far off, she didnât want to waste her time like this.
âI donât vibe with this class,â Elysia declared.
âSo... where do you want to go?â Levi asked, trying to keep up.
Elysia thought for a second and then said, âI heard Class 6 is the bottom of the barrel.â
âYep.â Levi said, still trying to follow.
Then Class 6 it is,â Elysia said with determination.
Levi hummed and hesitated, unsure how to respond. âClass 6 was a bunch of slackers. Was Elysia throwing her future down the drain?â he wondered.
