“Dad, what brings you here?”

“If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have heard you spouting such nonsense,” Edward replied.

“Dad, I was just kidding,” Holden reassured him.

Edward ignored him and approached Olive, his expression softening slightly. “Mom, the Jackson family has arrived.”

Elysia had mentioned the Jackson family briefly before, but they only knew that she considered them as godparents.

Upon hearing this news, Olive’s face lit up with pleasure. “Alright, quickly invite them in,” she said. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she glanced at Edward and reminded him, “Don’t stand there looking like the world owes you a favor.”

This was far more uncomfortable for Edward than actually being in debt. He had never anticipated that his beloved Elysia had found another set of parents. It felt like his daughter was being taken away from him, and naturally, his mind was unsettled.

In contrast to Edward’s reaction, Elysia’s face beamed with joy, surprised by how swiftly everything had unfolded. Noticing Edward’s discomfort, she quickly took his hand, her smile fading as she cautiously inquired, “Dad, you’re not upset with me for accepting this, are you?”

Elysia’s pitiful expression nearly melted Edward’s heart, especially when he heard the guilt and sadness in her voice. Edward felt even more upset and quickly assured her, “Elysia, don’t worry about it. I am really happy for you! It’s just that I’m not quite ready to accept it yet.”

Edward’s words were clearly contradictory to his feelings. Nobody believed it. But nobody dared to say anything.

Olive couldn’t stop smiling. It seemed that Edward could only be reigned in by Elysia.

When the Jackson family arrived, Edward personally went to the door to greet them. Berenger and Odalyn were taken aback by the warm welcome. Their family wasn’t very influential, but Edward greeted them at the door himself. It was all thanks to Elysia that they received such an honor.

As they all settled onto the nearby sofa, Elysia introduced Berenger and Odalyn to everyone, saying, “Berenger, Odalyn, this is my grandmother. Over there are my dad and mom, and here, from oldest to youngest, are my brothers Fabian, Javier, Yehoshua, and Holden.”

After completing the introductions, Elysia noticed Hugo still in the room. Her eyes met his, and she added, “This is a friend of Yehoshua...” She hesitated for a moment, realizing she had not known his name.

Hugo seemed to notice her dilemma and quickly stepped in, saying, “My name is Hugo, a friend of Yehoshua’s.”

Her tone was filled with urgency, and Elysia quickly reassured her, “Mom, I’m perfectly fine! It was just a close call, but nothing happened.”

Despite Elysia’s reassurance, the Evans family remained uneasy. They sensed that the story was more complex than she let on, but they refrained from asking further.

Quinita’s gaze shifted to Odalyn, and she felt a sense of relief wash over her.

Odalyn had once protected Elysia in a time of danger, and Quinita remembered the kindness with gratitude. A genuine smile spread across her face as she said, “Mrs. Jackson, thank you for saving my daughter. No, to be precise, she’s your daughter too.”

Gaining Quinita’s approval, Odalyn felt a wave of reassurance, and her face lit up with warmth. “Don’t mention it; it was my pleasure.”

Quinita could sense the genuine kindness emanating from Odalyn, and any awkwardness between them seemed to dissolve in that moment. Since Elysia had already recognized Odalyn as a godmother, the only thing left for Quinita to do was to accept Odalyn.

“Mrs. Jackson, I think we should be less formal with each other from now on. How about we call each other by our first names?”

Quinita suggested.

Odalyn had no reason to refuse. Perhaps this was the best way for them to get along, so she nodded and agreed, “You’re right.

I’ll call you Quinita from now on.”

“Okay,” Quinita replied.

Elysia watched the two women in front of her. She had initially wondered how to bring them closer, but now it seemed unnecessary. They were naturally growing closer, and she realized it was all because of her.

Berenger and Edward noticed that their wives were already on a first–name basis and becoming quite friendly. They thought they should follow suit. They exchanged glances and said in unison, “So, should we...”

They both paused, and Edward courteously gestured for Berenger to go first.

“No, Edward, you go ahead,” Berenger insisted.

Everyone was watching them, and seeing that there was no avoiding it, Edward finally spoke up. “Berenger, since Elysia has recognized you as family, we are all practically one family now. There’s no need to be so formal.”

Edward’s remark surprised Olive slightly. Previously, he had seemed annoyed at the Jackson family for “stealing” his daughter. It was unexpected that he would now consider them family.

But upon reflection, Olive could understand. Edward was someone who could see right from wrong. The Jackson family had cared deeply for Elysia, and Odalyn’s past kindness towards Elysia was not something they had forgotten. That was just like Edward.

When Olive compared Edward to Jim, a look of disappointment crossed her face. It was incredible how two brothers from the same mother could be so different.

Though she didn’t quite understand, she thought they might just be curious about Logan’s identity. So, she pointed at Logan and introduced him, “This is Logan, my godbrother.”
