Chapter 224
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 224 Emma was being led away by the police, and Bella hear wat in her throat. She couldnât wrap her head around it. How had her daughter gotten tangled up in a murder investigation?
Berengerâs voice cut through the tension. âWhat the hell is going on**
His patience was long gone. Heâd always tried to be understanding with Bella and Emma, but this was beyond anything he couldâve imagined. The police werenât arresting people on a whim, especially not for murder. What could Emma have possibly done âI donât know,â Bella whispered, shaking her head as tears streamed down her cheeks. âEmma couldnât have killed anyone.
There must be some mistake.â
âHow can you still be so naive?â Berengerâs frustration boiled over. âDo you think the police arrest people without evidence?
There has to be a reason they took her.â
âBella, look at your own daughter! Just like her real father! Well, makes sense. Heâs a complete-â
The word ârapistâ was caught in Berengerâs throat; he just couldnât bring himself to say it because it was hurtful Bella always saw this event as a nightmare, and mentioning those words would undoubtedly hurt her. Even though Bella had made many mistakes in the past, Berenger still valued the sliver of family connection they shared.
Bellaâs eyes widened, and she stared ahead blankly. She didnât need to hear the words to know what he was thinking. It was about Emmaâs fatherâsomething Bella had tried to bury deep in the past.
She let out a cold, bitter laugh. After all these years, even her own brother couldnât hide his contempt for her. She had lived most of her life, only to end up like thisâa pariah, despised by everyone.
She wiped her tears and looked at Berenger. âYouâve done enough for me. I wonât be a burden anymore.â She got up from the floor, her legs trembling, and stumbled out of the room.
Berenger wanted to stop her, but he was at a loss for words. Maybe it was better to let her go and cool off alone.
Odalyn had been silent the entire time. Sheâd never liked Bella and Emma, and now this. If Emma was capable of something so terrible, who knew what else she might do?
She thought, âItâs better for them to leave. What if they get angry and turn against us? The Jackson family has always been respectable in Shecrityâsuch a scandal never happens. Ever since Bella and Emma have come to us, disasters have been coming to us as well.
The room hung heavy with silence, the kind that makes your ears ring and your heart race. Everyone sat there, lost in their own thoughts, until Odalyn broke the spell. She turned to Logan and asked, âHowâs Elysia?â
Logan blinked, caught off guard. He hadnât expected that to be her first question. âSheâs doing great,â he replied, his voice steady. âYou want to go see her? I can take you.â
âAlright,â Odalyn said, nodding. Then she looked at Berenger. âAre you coming with us, or staying here to deal with Bellaâs mess?â
Sensing her impatience, Berengerâs face softened, and he gave a reassuring smile. âWherever you go, Iâm there,â he said. âAnd honestly, I havenât seen Juliet in ages. Iâd love to catch up with her.â
Odalyn rolled her eyes, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. âI thought youâd be staying to clean up after Bella.â
âHoney,â Berenger said, his tone gentle, ânothing is more important than you.â
âYouâre just buttering me up,â Odalyn teased, but there was a warmth in her voice. She stood up, heading for the door, and 1/3 17:30 Thu, 6 Mar Chapter 294 Berenger was right behind her.
ogan, however, stood mated to the open, watching them leave. He felt like an order, a spare part of dieir dynamir. His parents were a unit, and he was the one who always veemed to be left behind But then be remembered something crucial: Elysia. She was the Owner of Arcanum House, and there was no way he parents would guess that. If he took them there, her identity would be revealed.
He cursed himself for not thinking it through earlier. Now he needed to get Elysiaâs permission before he could decide whether to bring them to her.
He pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts until he found Elysiaâs name. But when he called, it went straight to voicemail.
He sighed, frustrated. Heâd have to find another way to reach her. Maybe they could meet at Arcanum House, or somewhere else entirely. He needed to figure it out fast.
Loganâs gaze flicked to the door, but his phone remained stubbornly silent. He felt a pang of loneliness. His parents hadnât even noticed he wasnât following them. If he didnât hurry, theyâd probably leave without him. It was a possibility he couldnât ignore.
A wave of dread washed over him. He quickly stood up and hurried outside, his steps quickening as he reached the hotel entrance.
To his relief, he saw Odalyn standing by the curb, talking on the phone. At least they hadnât left without him. Maybe his parents did care after all.
But just as he was starting to feel better, he saw his parents hail a taxi. Panic surged through him. He sprinted towards them.
shouting, âWait!â
Berenger turned at the sound of his voice and frowned when he saw Logan running towards them. âHurry up,â he called out with a frown.
Loganâs heart sank as he caught his fatherâs disapproving look. Was it enough to be ignored? Now he had to deal with being dismissed too.
But he didnât have time to dwell on it. If he didnât catch the taxi, heâd be left behind, and heâd be truly lost.
Logan finally reached the taxi, panting heavily with his hands on his knees.
Berenger, already seated in the back, leaned forward with a frown. âHurry up and get in,â he snapped, clearly impatient.
Logan rolled his eyes. His dad was never one for patience or gentleness, but he didnât dare argue. He quickly climbed into the passenger seat.
âTake us to the Arcanum House,â Odalyn told the driver.
Loganâs eyes widened in surprise. âMom, how did you know Elysia was there?â he asked, genuinely puzzled.
Odalyn raised an eyebrow. âDo you think weâre as clueless as you are? We know how to ask questions,â she replied with a hint of amusement.
Loganâs mind raced. No wonder his call to Elysia had gone unanswered. Heâd been so naive, thinking they couldnât find her without him.
But if Elysia had given them the address, it meant she didnât intend to hide anything. Still, he was baffled by his parentsâ lack of surprise.
