Chapter 128
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 128 When the incident first came to light, it was quickly overshadowed by the strong influence of the Davis family, causing little commotion. However, many years have passed, it was raised again.
As Matthew reflected on the recent loss of contracts from their business partners, his suspicions grew stronger. âWhat an incredible coincidence. The Davis family is facing a major setback, and at the same time, the post of my plagiarism has emerged.â
He waved his assistant out of the room, feeling utterly frustrated. âPlease step outside.â
âYes, Mr. Davis.â
Once Barry left, Matthew turned to Perrin, his brow creased with worry. âWho do you think is behind this attack on the Davis family?â
Perrin said, âI asked a friend to look into it, and if the information is correct, it seems that the person behind is Mr. Hartley.â
Matthewâs eyes widened at Perrinâs words. âWhen did we ever offend him? My daughter is close friends with Zane; given that connection, Zane would have no reason to act against the Davis family. What is really going on?â
His mind spun in chaos; the troubles facing the Davis family could very well lead to their downfall. Generations of hard work had built their legacy, and now it seemed it was all on the verge of collapse because of him.
Perrin said, âMr. Davis, you need to act quickly to establish a good relationship with Mr. Hartley and ask for his leniency.
Otherwise, with his power, he could easily bring down the Davis family, and no one could stop him.â
This made sense, but Matthew was at a loss as to why Zane would want to harm the Davis family. Zaneâs friendship with his daughter should protect the Davis family, yet the current events suggested otherwise, with no warning signs.
After a moment of silence, Matthew finally asked, âYou really believe that person is Mr. Hartley?â
âMr. Davis, where thereâs smoke, thereâs fire. You must make a decision fast.â
âI will contact Mr. Hartley and resolve this issue quickly.â
Perrin nodded. âThatâs good, but Mr. Hartley isnât the kind of person you can meet on a whim; it might not be as easy as you think.â
âI understand.â Matthew added, âPlease get the trending news taken down swiftly. Manage the necessary connections; I trust you know what to do.â
âDonât worry, Mr. Davis; Iâll handle it.â
âGood.â
After Perrin left the office, Matthew thought for a moment before calling Nora. Her voice was filled with urgency. âDaddy, I was just about to call you; have you seen the trending news online?â
At that moment, Nora had lost her usual calm and poise, overwhelmed by panic. Since the news broke, her emotions had been all over the place.
Her dad was the head of the prestigious Davis family, and their status in Sivro was unmatched. Nora couldnât believe her dad was being accused of plagiarism. He was the man she had always taken pride in.

Chapter 128 âNora, please calm down; I need to ask you something first,â Matthew replied. He paused for a moment, then asked, âIs Zane really your friend?â
Nora was taken aback. âWhy would dad ask that? Has he discovered something?â She steadied herself, replying, âYes. Why do you ask, Daddy?â
Hearing his daughterâs confirmation, Matthew felt relieved. As long as Zane and Nora were friends, they could find a solution.
He had thought that Nora might have been lying about their friendship and that she and Zane were not actually friends at all.
Just the thought of this possibility made his heart race. If it were true, the Davis family could be headed for disaster. Thankfully, it seemed he was just overthinking.
Matthew said, âNora, you need to listen to me; contact Mr. Hartley right away. No matter how you do it, make sure we can meet him as soon as possible.â
Nora was confused about why Matthew wanted to meet Zane. Before she could ask, Matthew added, âI donât have any other options. Thankfully, you and Mr. Hartley are friends; that might help the company get through this crisis.â
Nora was puzzled by her dadâs words but recognized that something was definitely wrong with the Davis familyâs situation;
otherwise, Matthew wouldnât be so upset. Thinking it over, she asked, âDaddy, whatâs going on?â
Matthew sighed heavily. âThis morning, several of our business partners terminated their contracts, causing huge issues for our operations and leaving us with significant financial gaps. If we canât get through this, the worstâcase scenario is bankruptcy.â
Nora frowned at this news; she wasnât naive enough not to understand the seriousness of their partners pulling out. Someone was clearly trying to take the Davis family down. With the online chaos, Nora felt increasingly certain of this.
Nora asked, âDaddy, do you have any idea who is behind this?â
Matthew said, âMr. Hartley.â
Nora could hardly believe what Matthew said. âHow could Zane be the one behind this?â She asked incredulously, âDaddy, are you sure itâs him?â
âYou might not believe this, but it is him. Nora, your actions are crucial for the future of the Davis family; you must ensure that I meet with Mr. Hartley.â
Noraâs heart raced with anxiety. She couldnât understand why Zane would target the Davis family. âHave we ever done anything wrong to him? Dad is remarkably wise; how could he possibly have crossed Zane?â
Nora recalled their meeting at Grand Restaurant and wondered if she had upset him during that encounter. However, Zane didnât seem like the type to hold a grudge. She was overwhelmed with confusion, trying to figure out where the issue lay.
âNora, can you hear me?â After a long silence, Matthew asked again.
Nora finally returned to the present; she realized they had urgent matters to address. âDaddy, Iâll do my best.â
After hanging up, Nora felt a knot of anxiety tighten around her heart; she was unsure how to approach Zane and persuade him to meet with Matthew.
To the other members of the Davis family, she and Zane were good friends, and if she couldnât arrange a meeting with him now, the truth about their relationship would be revealed.

She didnât want to face the reality of her relationship with Zane, nor did she wish to expose it to the Davis family. However, with the Davis family in such dire straits, if she continued to hide, she would risk losing even more.
After a moment of reflection, she gathered her courage and dialed Zaneâs number. With her heart racing, she had no idea what her first words would be if Zane answered.
Zane didnât pick up the phone. Frustrated, she called again, but this time it rang twice before being abruptly cut off. She redialed, only to face rejection once more. Just as she was about to give it a fourth try, she stopped.
Continuing this way wasnât going to work; she decided not to try again. Instead, she opened her messages and typed a text: [For our past as dance partners, please give me a chance; I need to discuss something important with you in person.]
She hit send and then held her phone tightly, filled with anxiety. She worried her message would go unnoticed, fearing Zane would ignore her request. For the first time, she felt completely helpless.
The screen lit up when Zane picked up his phone, glancing at the message. It was the same unknown number, but after reading the content, a small smile formed on his lipsâhe had indeed remembered correctly.
He had previously asked Barry to look into everyone connected to the Davis family, and that number looked familiar from Noraâs information. When the unknown caller had kept trying to reach him earlier, he had already pieced things together.
As soon as the Davis family faced trouble, someone had been relentless in their attempts to contact him, and this number was familiar. Surely he could guess it was Nora.
After waiting for some time, Nora had not received a response from Zane. In a moment of desperation, she tried calling the number again. To her surprise, this time, it connected.
