16. Uuhh jealously!
Heartfelt Whispers
Anika
The next morning, I woke up feeling something pressing underneath me. I snuggled a bit more, trying to block out the sunlight that had invaded my room.
Wait, since when did sunlight come in here? I opened my eyes and discovered that I was half on the sofa, half on Jai's torso, with my right leg wrapped around his legs.
He was sleeping with half of his body on the sofa and the other half hanging in the air.
Glancing at the clock, it was 6:30 in the morning. I closed the curtains, attempting to move Jai entirely onto the sofa, but he was like a rockâtoo heavy for me to budge. Those abs and muscles weren't just for show, apparently.
I headed to brush my teeth and take a quick shower, realizing I had to leave for work.
Since I wasn't a breakfast person, I made some idlis for him. The batter was ready, so it didn't take much time. Sambhar and chutney joined the party, and I set everything on the table for him.
Returning to check on Jai, I found him now fully on the sofa.
I sighed in relief and covered him with a blanket. He looked so peaceful, working late nights and barely eating anything. Deserved some decent sleep, I thought.
I called Jai's assistant, letting her know he'd be coming in late. She was a snake most of the time but it was essential so I had to call her.
I wasn't sure if I had the authority to do that, but hey, desperate times call for desperate measures.
She seemed a bit weird about it, and it took me a moment to figure out why. Calling your boss's soon-to-be wife to say he won't make it on time might be interpreted differently. I chuckled to myself.
Leaving little notes with sweet compliments placed strategically around the house, I added a spare brush in the bathroom for Jai.
After getting ready in a cute cardigan and jeans, I left for the office with my iced coffee, my trusty companion.
I hit the office, jumped straight into a meeting, and, of course, my phone decided to ring just as things got serious. It was Jai on FaceTime.
"Good morning, sunshine" I teased.
"Morning!" he replied happily, someone is a morning person. I sure am not.
"You didn't have to do this, you know?" he said.
"I wanted to" I shot back.
"Breakfast?" I asked, and he realized the time, panicked, and exclaimed, "Oh my god, what is the time?"
"It's 11 am, and relax, I already informed your assistant. You gave me her number for 'emergency purposes"
"Thank god for that" he sighed in relief. "And thank you."
"Anytime" I grinned, feeling like some breakfast fairy godmother.
"So I put a new brush in the bathroom, and breakfast is on the dining table" I informed him, enjoying the change in his expression. His eyes turned soft and those kissable lips turned into a smile.
It was like someone was finally taking care of him.
This guy was living in a different world if that thought crossed his mind.
Only if I had the chance to care for him like this before. To shower him with love everyday.
Wait love? Maybe.
Over the years I kept falling for him gradually. I don't know if I could ever say the words to him.
Not until he feels the same. But I don't think that's possible. I wasn't special in any way. He's been with models and celebrities. I was nothing in front of them.
He wanted to marry for his position and me because of my parents.
Not wanting to spoil my mood with the overthinking, I shrugged that thought away.
"You can stay and work from home if you want. I'll be back by 4 today" I offered.
"Thanks, but I have a meeting I need to attend" he declined.
Boss calls me, and I have to bid Jai goodbye. Ugh, the timing.
"Okay, bye. Have fun, and don't forget to eat" I reminded him before heading back to the grind.
The day rolled on with work, and Jai kept texting sweet compliments about my food and adorable notes. I got home a tad later than planned, intending to go shopping with Varsha and Mom.
But Jai had other plans and needed to show me something, so I promised the shopping spree for tomorrow.
Jai rolled into my place around 6, shedding his suit coat and cranking up the hotness level. Effortlessly good-looking.
I opted for a pink bodycon dress, not knowing where we were going, and didn't want to be overdressed.
We drove for a bit, parked, and entered an apartment building.
"Where are we going?" I inquired.
"Let's go" he said, opening my door with that mysterious smile.
It was a gorgeous, towering building, at least 30 floors high. We took the lift to the pent house, walked a few steps, and encountered a woman waiting for us.
"Hey" Jai greeted.
"Hello!" the lady replied, probably around my age. Confusion reigned in my mind.
"Let me show you around" she offered, and it clicked.
We were house hunting!
"You didn't tell me?!" I bounced with excitement. Jai just grinned.
"I wanted to surprise you" he confessed, and I hugged him.
House hunting has always been on my list, and doing it with him made it even better.
We explored a potential new home â white walls, no furniture yet, but three bedrooms and a balcony. Good enough, but the lady, kept shooting me looks like I'd murdered her cat.
"You are?" I extend my hand. "I am Anika" I smile at her. Though she is giving me death glare since the time I arrived but I wanted to win the battle with kindness.
"Priya" she tells me giving me a fake smile.
"Do you like it?" Jai asked, his hand wandering across my back and waist.
"It's okay.." I replied, not wanting to give her the satisfaction. To be honest the place was good but it wasn't my thing.
"This is the best tower in the area" she replied, giving me fake smiles and flirty eyes at Jai.
"Sir" I corrected her, "it's Jai sir."
"Yes, sir" she repeated, still eyeing him like he was a snack. I was trying to keep my patience, but this lady was making it tough.
"I didn't like that the balcony overlooks other buildings. I wanted more greenery" I informed her.
"Yes, ma'am. I have a few options; I can show them to you today," she offered still looking at me with something I cannot place.
The way she looked at me brought all my insecurities back.
Hey, I loved myself but when someone judges you it just becomes difficult sometimes.
"Did you like it sir?" she asks Jai.
"I like what my girl likes" he said, not bothering to look at her.
When Priya leaves he looked at me, smiling mischievously.
"Why are you smiling?" I asked him.
"Jealousy looks good on you," he said, pulling me closer. I buried my face in his chest, not wanting him to see me blush.
"Jai?" I looked up at him, seeing the hunger in his eyes.
