Chapter 13

Mated To My Doom

This chapter.. let's just say, you're in for something big! ;)

Fun fact about me: In drama, everyone got a mock award, and I got the Tranquility award because I was always so calm in even the most chaotic moments in class.

-You're not scared of the dark, you're scared of whats in it

Chapter 13

"Greg? Greg? Where are you Greg!" My patience was running low.

Greg's direction was to the middle of no where which is also known as- the woods.

As a wolf, the woods don't often bother me, but this is new territory. I've never ran through these paths and neither has my wolf. I felt vulnerable because of my uncertainty of my location.

If someone was chasing me, would I go left or right? Straight or back?

Lets face it, what ever path I choose I'll end up tripping and falling over absolutely nothing, then being to lazy to get up which would result in my tragic yet not-so-tragic death.

Isn't that what happens in all those cliche horror films?

I attempt to rid myself of the odious thoughts clouding my mind.

I go back to calling Greg's name.

"Greg! Pfft Greg! If you don't come out till I count to 3, then I'm leaving."

It was a lame attempt, but it seemed to have worked on Soph when she was younger.

"1....."

Nothing.

"2...."

Nothing.

"2 and a half...."

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"3! Ugg damn you Greg! Do you know what time it is? I'm am loosing my valuable sleep just to be here and you're not even here!"

Nothing but the sound of crickets could be heard.

I get a brilliant idea to call his phone.

As I press call, a distant right can be heard meters away.

"Greg?" I walk deeper into the forest.

"Greg is that you?"

I see his phone flashing bright mixed between leaves, then many feet to the left, lay his body.

His heart still beating, his stomach peacefully rising every time he took a breath.

"Greg!" I shout loudly, then poke him with a stick.

"Hmm, huh! Rose!" Greg goes from confusion to relief as he grips me in a tight embrace.

"Oh thank god. I didn't think I'd be able to see you ever again."

"What are you talking about? And why were you sleeping in the middle of the forest?" My voice is nice and loud, sounding like a lawn mower under the tranquility.

"Rose, I missed you so much!"

"Yes, I can clearly tell as you fell asleep while waiting for me." A sheepish look passed through Greg's face.

"Rose, something bad happened."

"To who?"

"To me."

I Wait for him to explain, and he does.

"Last night after I left from your home I was driving down an empty road when another dark vehicle comes out and smashed into mine. We were'nt near any big intersections, and the nearest home was about 15 meters away. The damage was mostly to my car, I'm fine."

His words distress me but I try not to show it. No need to add more to his plate.

I urge him to go on.

"See, one moment I'm sitting in my car wondering what just happened and the next I'm slung out of my car and onto the floor. There's this huge guy standing in front of me and he starts yelling at me. Than he takes my wrist and starts burning me."

"What!" I couldn't help my self as the words slipped my mouth.

I grab both his wrists but I see no scars.

"Not that type of burning. They took away my delta tattoo."

"You had a tattoo?" How did I never notice that?

"Don't worry about it. It was small, just something that signifies that I was delta. It can only be removed with the permission and 100 percent consent from the Alpha." A look of sadness washed through Greag's face.

"Wait, so that would mean.." I couldn't even finish my own sentence.

"I'm a rouge. Not only was I stolen from my position as Delta, but the man then stated that Hunter banished me from his pack. I'm a rouge now, Rose!"

"Why would Hunter do that? You're such a great Delta, you love the pack, why would he do this?"

"That's the part I don't know."

Greg looks at me for hope, but looks back down when he doesn't see any.

Dropping Greg from his status is one thing, but making him a rouge?

That's just cruel. Rouges are despised of and always known as a threat. A viscous, killing threat. Greg doesn't belong there.

He belong in this pack.

"We can't let him do this."

"Well, what can we do?"

"I have a plan. It may be very stupid and risky, but honestly it's better then this." I motion to his packed bag placed beside him. I'm surprised he even had enough time to pack.

"There's an unused room in my basement. It's a bedroom, it used to be the room of the son of who ever used to lie there. It nice and secluded and we never use it. You can stay there, for now. You won't be able to leave the house, but at least you'll be safe."

"That's too much to ask of you and you family, I don't want to put you guys in any trouble-"

"Greg, we have no choice! And my mom will understand 100 percent. Plus, we'll get through this. We'll fin a way to fix this. I'll talk to him."

"You don't have to. I mean, you'll get in trouble. I wasn't supposed to tell anyone. I was supposed to leave. I barely had enough time to back the essentials."

I couldn't meet his gaze.

"Promise me! Promise me, Rose, that you would confess to him. That'll only give him more power. Please."

I couldn't reply, as I am afraid that the lies would be too fake.

"Promise me, Rose, or I'll leave and never come back." His voice sounded threatening, and so when I looked into his eyes, I controlled myself.

"I promise," I look him right into his eyes, never glitching not once.

He accepted it.

It was so late and dark outside that I eventually convinced Greg to sit in the passenger seat while I drive him to my home.

"Greg, what did that car look like?" I asked randomly.

"What car?"

"The car that crashed into you."

Greg gave it some moments to think it over before replying,

"Black van. No, a black mini van. Yes, I'm sure of it."

I gulped, "That's what I thought."

I ignore  Greg's confused expression, and drive up my drive way.

"Is that your moms car?" Greg asked.

Looking over, I see that my mom has just arrived as well.

"Rose, what are you doing out so late. Greg, oh my! What happened to you."

I instructed for my mother and Greg to go inside so Greg could explain everything to her.

"I think I forgot my phone in the car, I'll be right back."

I walk to the car and sit patiently in the drivers seat. When the front door slams shut, I reverse out from the driveway.

It seemed like a new pattern. Me knocking on Hunter's door at an hour far too late to be knocking on doors.

It was strange.

This time when Hunter opened the door, It didn't look like he was sleeping.

His face was fresh, his eyes wide open.

He smiled, then moved to the side as if he was expecting me.

Barging in, I begin my rant.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!"

"Well good morning to you too." I ignore his comment.

"How could you do this! It was you all along! You sent that guy to follow me! You sent him after Greg! It's all your fault! You- you- You monster!"

He gave me a loon as in saying, 'go on'.

"Why? That's all I wan't to know. Why? Why'd you destroy an innocent persons life? I mean, I wouldn't hold it past you to do something so awful, but why? Greg is an am zing Delta."

"Do you even know what  Delta does?" His words caught me off guard and left me stuttering.

"And for your question, It's really simple."

"You, are mine. He, was trying to make you his. I did the most rational thing I could think of; I got rid of him."

"I am not yours!"

"Ah, ah ah! You are my mate. You belong to me. You are mine. Only mine." His words brought chills to my bones.

My wolf actually  liked his possessive side. She yearned to be claimed.

"You should be thankful really, that I didn't kill him. I could have. I wanted to. Still do. But I figure, It's better to have you all crazy then all crazy and emotional."

"Is there ever a time when you don't insult me?" I ask more to my self then him.

He just shrugs.

"Un-ban him. Let him come back." He ignores me.

"Listen to me! I'm speaking to you. If your not gonna give him his rank back then fine, but at least let him come back into the pack. Making him go Rouge? Really Hunter? That's a little too low, even for you."

"Did you know one of my wolves was killed this morning." Hunter's change of subject was random but still caught my attention.

"Killed?"

"Coldly, murdered. One of my best too. Female warrior."

"I-I'm sorry?" Why was he telling me this?

"Do you want to know where she was found?"

Not really.

He tells me anyways.

"At the edge of the woods, just behind your boyfriends house."

The woods framed the whole town, it's practically everywhere.

"So?"

"It's more then a coincident that your so called boyfriend leaved your home just an hour before that girl was murdered, don't you think?"

"Stop calling him my boyfriend."

"What, ashamed that your boyfriend is a cold heart killer?"

"He's not a killer! Anyone could have killed that girl and placed her there! Why would Greg, that Delta of the pack do it? He loves this pack. He'd never hurt anyone in it. And wouldn't that man you had follow us notice something?"

He only shrugged.

Hunter always seemed to frustrate me, leave me in a worse state then I was before.

"Greg's not a killer. He was with me pretty much that whole night."

"How sure are you?"

"Very sure. Not let him back in! He's your friend. Do you honestly think he killed her?"

I seem to have caught him off guard by my question, as he didn't reply until moments later.

"He is no friend of mine, not anymore. And if you want him back in the pack, you need to try harder than that."

I don't even think Hunter believes that Greg would do such a thing. He's just looking for excuses.

"What can I possibly do to change your mind. Tell me. I'll do it."

"Kiss me." He's words shocked me. I didn't even move when he took steps closer to me.

He now stood straight in front of me.

"Kiss me." He repeated, his lips getting closer to mine.

Just as his lips were a centimeter away from mine, I whisper, "Will you let Greg come back and go back to being Delta?"

In a matter of seconds, Hunter filled with rage.

Greg this! Greg that! I don't fucking care about Greg! Just get out of my house."

"No! You said you'd let him go!"

"I said no such thing."

"But you said I could convince you." Hunter was now dragging me towards the exit.

"And perhaps you can." And just like that, he shut the door in my face.

*        *        *

When I arrive back hope, I walk in to see Greg sitting down on the couch nearly dozing off.

Greg and I sit in silence. Too much has happened, not only today, but through out this whole month.

I don't know how this whole hiding Greg will work, he can't hide forever.

What would Hunter do if he found out?

"You must be hungry," I break the silence.

He only nods.

"We don't have much groceries, Sundays are usually the day we go out and get all the groceries. There must be something here."

I walk towards the kitchen and open all the cupboards in search for something edible for Greg and I.

"Well, its either chick-peas or minute made noodles. Take you pick."

Greg makes his way towards me and grabs the two packages of minute made noodles.

"I'll make it, you can go change."

I smile in appreciation.

I hate wearing 'outside' clothes at home.

Comfortable clothes or pajamas are the home clothes.

I change into a black t-shirt with pajama pants.

Once I'm done I take my time walking back towards Greg. Both my sister and mother's bedroom door was shut.

"Hey Soph, are you hungry?" I ask, her door now wide open.

"Nah, I already ate. Mom said she'd drop by Walmart tomorrow. She also said to feed Greg for now." Soph nearly stuttered when she was saying Greg.

"Hey, I guess I never really asked how your coping with all of this, but you don't mind about Greg, right?" I gave her a hopeful look.

She smiled, yet it didn't reach her eyes. "Of course."

"Now can you please leave and shut my door on your way. I'm trying to start my science project which is due on Monday."

"Hey it's very late. You may not have school tomorrow, but you need to sleep. You can't just sleep in every weekend."

After that's said, I put up my hands in mock surrender, then I back out while shutting the door.

Walking down the stairs, my stomach grumbles from hunger.

"Mmm that looks delicious," I stop speaking when I notice Greg is no where in sight. There was a plate filled with noodles placed on the table.

I hear the shower turning on downstairs and come to a conclusion that I took to long so Greg wen't and got settled in.

Looking back to the plate, I see a note beside it. In messily writing identical to Greg's, it says, I know you've had a long day so just take the rest to relax. P.S I hope you enjoy the noodles.

I smile, then dispose of the note. I grab my plate and a water bottle from the fridge.

Walking back up to my room, I balance the bowl and my water bottle all on the hand and open the door with my other.

I cool gush of wind nearly pushes the plate down. Luckily, I grab it in time.

I place my food on my desk, then go to close the window. Soph must have opened it  to freshen out the house. She would often do that because she believed there was no fresh oxygen in the rooms.

I never really understood her reasoning.

The window was rusty, and wouldn't bulge at first. After putting all my weight on it, I'm able to close the window. A chill runs through me from the cold.

I walk to my closet and pull out a sweater. Zipping it up, I walk towards my bed.

It wasn't until my foot had hit the box on the floor that I noticed it.

It was a black gift box.

I blinked a few times, wondering if perhaps it was all in m,y imagination.

The box looked awfully close to the other two I had gotten anonymously.

"This is so stupid!" I mutter now very angry.

"What kind of person hides behind creepy letters? Freaks! That's who. This is pathetic."

Half of me wished that who ever this person was could hear me, but the other half prayed that who ever it really was, wasn't close enough to hear.

Maybe this isn't even from them. Maybe it's a prank from Soph. Or perhaps an early Christmas present.

Picking up the box, I held my breath when I realized hoe heavy it was.

It would still be considered light, but there's definitely something in there.

Unlike the last couple times, there was no bow this time.

Maybe I'm being paranoid. It could just be a git from my mom.

Since when does my mom leave me presents?

I sit on my bed and place the box on top of my lap. Bracing my self, I open it.

The only thing I can see is a note placed flat out above tissue paper.

This note is certainly not from my mother.

Dear my sweet Rosalyn,

Do you hear that sound? My heart just broke.

The note confused me until I turned it over and a gasp left my lips. On the back was  picture of Hunter and I earlier today when we nearly kissed. The picture looked like we were seconds away from touching lips, our eyes focused solemnly on each other.

If this was under different circumstances and in that circumstance, Hunter and I were together and mated, this would be a perfect picture to scrapbook.

However, in reality the fact that someone was able to capture a picture of me in Hunter's home in such a baffling position scared me to no ends.

Some may even think of this picture as a threat against the Alpha.

A small thought peered into my mind; should I tell Hunter?

Of course not! I doubt he could be of any help. Plus, he's done enough damage already.

My hand, which was resting inside the box, began to feel damp.

I lifted my hand to see red speared over it.

Suddenly alarmed, I removed the tissue paper to dins what was remaining.

I would scream, but it seems that even my lungs wouldn't work.

I drop the box and move many steps away.

My terror must have somehow reached Soph as she strolls in apprehensively.

"Is that..?" Soph's voice wanders off as she is far too stunned to complete her question.

I nod.

Inside that box was a heart. A wolve's heart.

The heart of the girl who was found dead this morning.

The words from the sadistic note rang in my ears.

Do you hear that? My heart just broke.

Sophie's mouth was moving yet no sound reached my ears.

Do you hear that?

Her hands gripped onto my shoulder, yet I couldn't feel anything.

My heart just broke.

It felt like hours, but it was only minutes. Sophia was pushing and pulling onto me. Yelling at me to wake up. It was then that I realized I had passed out.

But I could still hear the ringing;

Do you hear that? My heart just broke.

---------------------------------------------

Well.. that was one creepy ending!

Hope you liked it! And that it didn't freak you out TOO much ;)
