Chapter 867
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott
âIâve seen that little girl. Sheâs very cute and looks a lot like Eugene,â William said sincerely.
âGranddaughter?â Cedricâs expression was slightly mocking, like he had heard a joke.
He looked at William and replied, âI donât acknowledge Melanie and her child. Theyâll never step past the Scott familyâs door!â
âBut Eugene seems to like them very much. I heard that when Merry was hospitalized before, he made frequent visits to see her,â William said.
Cedric looked at him, his gloomy eyes even darker now. William simply stood there, his expression unchanging as if all of this had nothing to do with him.
Melanie was about to go abroad, so Yvonne took her to a friendâs private restaurant for dinner. Yvonne was downcast as she said, âHow long will you be away this time? Itâs annoying enough that I have to go to work. Now, I wonât even have someone to eat dinner with after work. How am I supposed to get through these days?â
She looked at Melanie resentfully, her gaze condemning. It was as if she were looking at someone who just cheated on her.
âItâs just a business trip. Itâs not like Iâm never coming back.â
âBut you wonât come back to Jepton, right?â Yvonne sighed. âI didnât feel it before, but why do I feel like time is passing so quickly now? Youâre all leaving in the blink of an eye.â
Yvonneâs words left a bitter taste in Melanieâs mouth. She did not want to leave Jepton either. Why would she leave her hometown if she had a choice? It was because she did not have a choice.
With Timothy and Cedric around, Melanieâs life here was uncertain.
Seeing Melanie silent, Yvonne belatedly remembered the reasons why Melanie was leaving Jepton.
She felt her words catch in her throat.
After thinking for a moment, she recalled something she needed to tell Melanie. âI heard from my mom that Stella moved back in with the Hel family. I didnât know she was forced to marry Cedric back then.
My mom said she used to be very gentle.
âBut think about it, what kind of woman could watch her husband cheat for so many years endure it silently? Anyone else would go crazyâ¦â
and Melanie listened quietly. Her relationship with Stella had never been good, so she did not really care much about her. Stella had been quite harsh toward her before, so Melanie was not inclined to empathize with her. If she empathized with Stella, who would empathize with her?
It was still early in the night after her dinner with Yvonne ended. There was a mall nearby, and Yvonne wanted to go buy clothes for Meredith again. Kids grew so fast. Meredith was so cute and delicate that Yvonne wanted to try every piece of childrenâs clothing on her.
Melanie let Yvonne take Meredith to try on clothes, but the mall was crowded and she inexplicably felt a little anxious. Her sixth sense has always been accurate. She glanced in a certain direction and saw a man in a suit and leather shoes looking at her.
The man clearly saw her too and was walking directly toward her. Melanie immediately became alert and turned to look at Yvonne. Yvonne was holding Meredith. They had just come out of the dressing room, and the little girl was wearing a set of cute little duck clothes.
âHow is it? Iâve got good taste, right? Our baby is super cute,â Yvonne said proudly, but the man had already walked over.
He stopped beside Melanie. âMiss Melanie Smith, the chairman wants to see you.
Who else could the chairman be apart from Cedric? Melanie suppressed her nervousness and asked, âWhere is he?â
âAt the hotel.â
Melanie nodded and signaled to Yvonne with her eyes. âYou two go back first. Iâll be back in a moment.â
âMiss Smith,â the man called out again. âThe chairman also wants to see your daughter.â
Melanieâs expression immediately darkened. âItâs about time my daughter gets her sleep. She wonât be seeing anyone.â
It was fine if Cedric wanted to see her, but there was no way she was bringing Meredith along.
