Chapter 720
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott
Melanie stood up to take the call outside. There was a lot of background noise on Leeâs end, revealing that he was at a social gathering.
Lee would not normally call her unless there was something important. âIs there something you need from me?â she asked.
âEugene has reviewed Burning Star Studioâs revised plan. You can come to LeapCo soon to arrange the funding since youâre in Jepton now.â
It was regarding the recent changes in plans when Xander suddenly altered the original schedule, which led to Eugene requesting the new plan for review.
âI'll go,â Melanie responded.
âCome tomorrow,â Lee suggested after a momentâs contemplation. âIt'll be the end of the month in two days. We donât want any delays in the financial department.â
âThatâs true,â Melanie acknowledged.
Just as they were about to hang up, Lee added, âBy the way, Eugene has an important business dinner with Mr. Walsh tonight.
It's a crucial partnership, so he won't be available.â
âIs there anything else?â Melanie asked, not interested in hearing about Eugeneâs work matters.
âNo, thatâs all,â Lee replied.
Melanie ended the call and turned to go inside, only to see Xander coming out with a coat in hand.
Xander raised a brow slightly. âI thought youâd stay outside for a while.â
Melanie gestured with her phone. âLee called. He wants me to visit LeapCoâs finance department tomorrow.â
His eyes appeared especially warm under the light. He looked at Melanie without saying anything, then draped the coat over her shoulders. âItâs chilly tonight. Donât catch a cold.â
Melanie nodded. âThank you.â
Her voice was very low, and she did not look like she was in a good mood.
Xander began to say, âAbout finding a lawyer, I'll ask my senior about it. Even if Luther is formidable, he won't be able to turn the case around considering all the solid evidence you have. Otherwise, wouldnât the law be unreliable?â
Melanie tightened her coat around herself, forcing a slight smile. âIâm just a bit worried.â
If they failed to bring down Viola completely this time, it would be much harder to do so in the future.
Melanie was not someone who believed in fate, but recent events often made her feel a sense of uncontrollable powerlessness.
Chapter 720 She was also afraid that she would fail to bring the real culprit who caused her grandfatherâs death to justice. She was afraid that her grandfather would blame her for being useless.
She was even more afraid that her grandfather would not be able to rest in peace.
Melanie took a deep breath. She clutched her coat and looked at the sturdy street lights outside. The dim light broke through the cold winter fog, bringing warmth.
Reny, who was reading the newspaper on the couch, looked up and said, âMelanie, let the boss accompany you. It'll save him from worrying. He rescheduled his flight to Oskon City overnight when you got hurt.â
Xander coughed lightly at how nonchalantly Reny exposed him. He looked at Melanie and said, go.â
âLet's Melanie did not know what to say at this point.
When Melanie went downstairs, she bumped into Tina and Yana at the door. They whisked Melanie away to reminisce.
Noticing Yana looking all dressed up, Melanie asked, âAre you going out to meet clients?â
