Gilda gave Cheryl a sharp look, making her inadvertently shrink back. Out of nowhere, Cheryl felt guilty.
Gilda hit Cheryl where it hurt.
Gilda knew exactly what Cheryl held dear. With a gentle voice, Gilda suggested, âItâs time for Baxter Appliances Company to stir things up a bit. Theyâd be better off skipping this business summit.â
Cheryl panicked instantly.
âThatâs impossible!â Cheryl blurted out. To her, Baxter Appliances Company was the Baxter familyâs last beacon of hope. Missing the summit would be disastrous.
âIâd do anything else, Gilda. Just not this,â Cheryl begged.
Gilda responded blankly, âPulling out now might save us some embarrassment. Stick around reluctantly, and being ousted later could ruin Baxter Appliances.â
Cheryl felt her legs weaken as fear took over. She didnât expect Gilda to have something deep and dark inside like that.
Despite her deep regret, Cheryl attempted a compromise. âGilda, my familyâs future hangs on Baxter Appliances. Please, donât ruin it.
âI can apologize..
Iâll say Iâm sorry.â
Yet no matter Cherylâs pleas, Gilda ignored her completely, without a hint of sympathy, and walked away.
Cheryl felt drained collapsing helplessly to the floor. A gust of wind chilled her sweaty back.
Cheryl couldnât help thinking, âYou went too far, Gilda!
The surrounding murmurs grew louder. âMs. Lynch really has it allâ
rich immensely talented,â one observer noted.
Another pointed out, âIn just half a year at Glory Corporation, sheâs increased profits by over ten .â
âFor a giant corporation, a ten percent increase is remarkable,â added another voice.
And another said enviously, âI wish I had Ms. Lynchâs business smarts.â
Cheryl felt irritated as she watched Gilda bask in the admiration, jealousy brewing within her.
Cheryl scoffed,â Gildaâs only here because of her familyâs influence. She lacks real talent. Sheâs probably just a pretty face.â
A bystander retorted, âMs. Baxter, get real. You should worry about yourself.â
âSounds like youâre just jealous. Ms. Lynch isnât just a pretty face; she has the skills too,â another speculated.

âYou two seemed close just a moment ago. I didnât expect such hypocrisy. Thatâs really uncool,â someone else remarked,
Stung, Cheryl shot back, âYou all are just sucking up to her! If youâre going to flatter someone, at least be subtle.â
Cheryl was convinced they were all merely flattering Gilda.
Cheryl continued, âIâve known Gilda since school. Trust me, I know what sheâs really like. Just you waitâIâll expose her
At this, the crowd perked up. âGot any juicy details, Ms. Baxter?â
Pleased with the attention, Cheryl boasted, âBack in school, Gilda was a total loser. Her grades were terrible, and she just
couldnât fit in.â
The crowd exchanged skeptical looks.
âDonât believe me, do you?â Cheryl said, teeth clenched, â
wait, Iâll show you what a real loser looks like.â
Fuming and desperate to disgrace Gilda, Cheryl was determined to publicly humiliate her.
