Chapter 31 - It Was Like Lightning

Matt's Story [COMPLETED]

By the time Matt and Kristen arrived at his house, they were almost completely dry. It didn't make any difference though. Matt wasn't planning on going back to the college and, from the looks of it, neither was Kristen. She was stillwringing out her hair but it looked like more of a reflex than anything else.

He brought them both into the living room and Mat immediately stripped his shirt. He could see Kristen watching him and grinned to himself as he turned his back on her and put his shirt into the washing machine. It wasn't really dirty but he wanted something to do to prevent himself from jumping on Kristen.

Luckily, she innocently sat down on the sofa, as if not processing the obvious vibes coming from his body, and eyed the tv, searching for the remote a moment later. Matt quietly picked up the control, which was on the table, and handed it to her. She nodded with a small smile before she turned the screen on.

Not wanting to watch tv, too agitated, Matt decided to stand in the kitchen to calm down a little. Not being able to eat properly for the past few days hadn't exactly helped his mood swings. Obviously, not eating also caused him to want to grab Kristen and throw her up the stairs and into his bedroom. He didn't know how much he could blame on his hunger but he knew that it was quite a weak excuse.

To help himself along, he started to defrost a mound of food from the freezer. He wasn't sure what he'd pulled out, as his freezer was in need of defrosting itself, but he really didnt care. He would eat it regardless of what it was. He just needed food to calm his emotions a bit.

After a few minutes, the meat was ready to cook. Matt had cheated and had used his microwave to warm up the meat. He wasn't sure if that was healthy but he really didnt care. Now that the meat was softer and less covered in ice, he saw that he'd pulled out a whole slab of beef, some chicken beasts and even some fish. It wasn't his favourite combination but he wanted to distract himself and it was doing a pretty good job so far.

As Matt started cooking the food, he heard Kristen get up and enter from behind him. The

electricity in the room suddenly came alive. It was like she'd turned on a live fence and was holding it within an inch of his skin. All of the hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he felt her move closer, close enough to be noticed.

She definitely wanted to be noticed.

He felt her cool hand on the middle of his back and he froze slightly before relaxing. He wasn't used to being so close with someone, let alone a girl, but he was glad that he was getting used to it so quickly. He needed her company to keep him sane.

He knew why she had wanted to have a normal life.

Until she'd come along, Matt hadn't known what a normal life was.

She made him feel normal.

It was stupid to think it but it was true. A vampire made him feel like he was normal again. Her strange behaviour probably helped. At least he wasn't the only strange creature in the town.

Even so, she wasn't exactly alive. She wasn't breathing. She was even further than normal than he was. At least he was born with his deformity and had a thumping heart with a constant flow of blood.

She was dead.

Regardless of this, he still couldn't help but turn around and take her probing fingers. He held their entwined fingers to his chest and breathed out before looking down at her. She really was doll like with her perfected marble skin. He couldn't help but run his fingertips along her cheek.

"Hungry?" She almost whispered.

Matt nodded and blinked a few times to get himself to think properly.

Stupid hormones.

"If I don't hunt then I get cranky. I haven't been able to lately because..." He trailed off but she got the hint.

She stepped back carefully but kept her hand on his chest. "I'm sorry I've completely ruined your routine. You can go and hunt if you want. I can wait here."

Matt was already shaking his head. "I'm already cooking. I'll be fine for now. I'll just need to go and get some more later on."

Kristen nodded but dropped their hands, stepping around Matt to lean on the side of the kitchen surface. "I never expected my life to turn out this way, you know. I definitely didn't expect to end up in your kitchen, practically dating you, wanting to rip your clothes off every time I look at you."

Matt's eyes glowed with desire and he quickly looked away. So she was feeling the same way. She could definitely feel the charge between them. It was like lightning. He was afraid that he'd spark if he got too close to her.

"I thought vampires and werewolves were supposed to be enemies. Aren't I supposed to want to kill you? Maybe it's the other way round. I used to read a lot of these kinds of books and usually the two species didn't like each other. I cant hate you though. Believe me, I've tried." Kristen laughed and Matt looked up to smirk at her, his shyness disappearing for a moment.

Yes, shyness. The old Matt had been shy around girls at times.

"I tried to hate you too. I guess you can't believe everything that's written down on paper." Matt chuckled then checked on his food before he returned to watching Kristen as she shuffled herself onto the kitchen surface. Matt's eyes drifted from the damp ends of her hair to the soft curve of her waist under her ribcage.

"Exactly. I'm glad though. I didn't want to hate werewolves. I found them fascinating. I can't even imagine what it must be like, especially if you turn so regularly. How can you put yourself through that much pain?"

Matt shrugged. "I cant stop it so I just let it happen. There's no point in fighting it."

"But you can fight it. That's the thing. You've proved that. You can fight it!" Kristen enthusiastically shuffled so that she was perched on the edge of the counter and her eyes sparkled. "You've done it before so surely you can stop yourself from turning completely. It might take some time but if you try hard enough then you could be able to live quite normally."

Matt considered this for a moment. It was true that he'd been able to change back, but to not change at all would be difficult and would require a lot of control. It would be painful and almost impossible to do on the first try. "I think I have a long time to wait until I'm able to master that."

Kristen sighed but her eyes still glistened. "The possibility that you could control it, though, but be great. You could be practically normal."

"My family was never normal." Matt answered quietly. Receiving a confused look, Matt continued, "My grandad couldn't control it so why do you think that I'd be able to?"

"You've controlled yourself already. It'll just get easier. It's the first step which is the hardest part."

Matt stayed quiet at this as he heard the oven go off. Kristen jumped off the counter as Matt pulled the tray out with his bare hands, not even flinching. He was warm enough for the heat not to affect him, but it still made his fingers go pink. He saw that Kristen had gone into the other room and so he pushed the meat onto a plate, even though the beef as still pink and bloody.

Matt suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. He hadn't even expected it and he snarled in pain as he gripped the side of the counter for support. Whatever the hell it was, it was seriously uncomfortable.

Then he heard splatters on the floor below him.

He was bleeding, and pretty badly.

He heard a snap and this time he cried out in pain as it buried into his back and out through his chest.

A sharp piece of wood.

Stumbling, he landed heavily against the cooker and forced himself to twist around.

Laura.

Matt's eyes widened in shock as he took in Laura's successful smile. She clutched the rest of the wooden stake in her hand like a trophy and smirked. "I told you that I'd get you back for all the things you'd done to me, Matt." She murmured and watched as Matt began to wobble and slide down to the floor.

He was a quick healer but, with the wood embedded in him, it was too difficult to pull out himself. He continued to bleed as his body tried to push the substance out, failing as splinters pulled his muscles, causing him to snarl in outrage.

"How...?" He gasped and winced as he felt the stake slide further into place.

"I've been watching you, Matt. I knew there was something different about you. I knew you'd killed your family. I knew you were a murderer. Something was off. You were too different. You were too strong and your diet so peculiar that I started becoming suspicious. I did some research and realised something. Matt, you deserve to be dead!"

"I think you'll find that you got the wrong person there." A cold voice said from the doorway to the kitchen. Matt tried to lean to see around Laura but he already knew who it was. He was surprised that neither of them had noticed Laura come in.

They'd been way too distracted.

"What are you doing here?!" Laura exclaimed and gripped the stake in her hand more forcefully.

Matt tried to take in deep breaths but he could feel the stake pressing on him too much to take in much oxygen. He was still losing a lot of blood. He held his fingers against his chest, too shocked to move. He'd never felt so much pain.

"Look at him, Laura! He isn't what you think he is!" Kristen snarled and pointed with a sharp thrust to Matt, causing Laura to turn and gasp.

How had she not noticed? What did she think he was? From the weapon she'd pushed into his back, he assumed that she thought he was a vampire...

"Are they supposed to bleed like that?" Laura whispered as she watched with wide eyes as a pool of blood started collecting on the floor.

"No, you fool. He's alive!" Kristen screeched. If Matt hadn't been facing her, he wouldn't have seen the dark furious deathly gaze fall across her eyes, clouding out her humanity.

"Oh no....No! You cant be! You're a vampire!" Laura started to tremble and she watched as Matt winced, his eyes rolling slightly.

"No he's not. I am." Kristen answered and Matt watched as her fangs extended and shot down her bottom lip.

Laura screamed but she was too late. Kristen was gone, a vampire in her place.

It took only a minute before Kristen jumped onto Laura, ripping at her throat. Blood coated Laura's shirt as her voice cut off abruptly.

"Kristen...stop." Matt whispered before scrunching his eyes up. He couldn't concentrate. His head was throbbing as it tried to take in more oxygen. He could hardly breathe properly. Every time his chest rose and fell, he pierced his lungs again and again. He could feel splinters rubbing against his heart and prayed that they didn't pierce it.

Though he knew that he was a monster, he didn't want to die.

He felt so helpless that he was angry at himself.

He was drifting in and out of consciousness at this point as his wounds continued to open and close, causing more blood to spill. He knew that he'd lost too much. Not going to hospital would kill him.

It was silent by now.

Matt didn't know what had happened but he was just concerned about the wood in his back and chest. It pained him to move but he fiddled with the wound, trying to pull some of the damage out of him.

It was only half hearted.

He felt a presence next to him and opened his mouth to speak but all he could feel was his fangs digging into his mouth. As a reflex to the pain, he'd half twisted into his wolf form. He didn't know what he looked like but he was sure that it wasn't pretty.

"Matt!" A distant voice shouted against his ear.

He flinched but stayed where he was. He couldn't move now even if he wanted to.

"Matt! Let me see you!"

Matt knew it was Kristen and forced his eyes open.

He was met with two very worried very round saucers for eyes. He felt her fingers against his as she pulled his hand away from his chest. He groaned as his wound opened again.

She was probing.

He could literally feel his life flowing out onto her fingers.

"Shit." She breathed as she dug further and pulled gently on a strand.

Matt snarled, his eyes popping open wide as he bearing his fangs at her face. His vision was too blurry to see what had happened to Laura but there was a dark shadow in the corner on the floor so he put two and two together. He would ask about it later.

He just wanted the stupid wood out of him.

"I'm going to flip you, okay?" He heard Kristen's voice say quietly and, next thing he knew, he was lying against the kitchen floor on his chest.

Nope, that certainly smarted a bit more than in the previous position.

He felt her fingers tightening against his back and groaned as blood began to touch his chin.

His vision went cloudy and started to shrink.

Shit indeed, Matt thought as he felt something being yanked out of his back.

He cried out in a loud ear-splitting howl before his vision went black and he clouded into darkness.

I'm sure you weren't expecting that!

I'll try and update again but it'll be short so I'm sorry if it's not up to standard!
