Chapter 790
The First Heir
A deep voice sounded behind Martha. She got such a fright that she choked on a mouthful of water,
coughed violently, and stood up in a panic while asking, âWhat⦠Whatâs the matter?â
Standing at the top of the stairs, Philip walked down and stared at Martha coldly. He asked, âDid you
enter my bedroom just now?â
Of course, Martha would never admit it. She said, âNo, of course not. Why would I enter your
bedroom?â
After that, she abruptly raised her voice and said, âOh, I think Anne went into your bedroom this
morning for cleaning duties. Whatâs wrong? Did you lose something? I already told you that Anne isnât
a good person. She stays here and lives off of us. Now, sheâs even resorted to stealing!â
Martha tried her best to put all the blame on Anne.
Philip glared at Martha before turning around and leaving.
Taking advantage of the time when Philip was upstairs, Martha quickly ran into Anneâs room to find a
place to hide the jade ring.
After thinking about it, she placed it on the desk instead. It was more conspicuous that way.
She breathed a sigh of relief after doing that. She ran out of the room and continued sitting in the living
room, eating leisurely.
Philip was extremely agitated now. He had lost the Sovereignty Seal!
How could that be possible?
However, he had turned the whole bedroom upside down but just could not find it!
It was all his fault. He had left such an important item in the bedroom.
It was also at this time that Anne returned with Mila.
Martha intentionally tried to stop Anne from returning to her room, so she deliberately shouted, âOh,
Milaâs home. Here, come to Grandma. I have cake for you.â
After that, Martha held Mila in her arms.
Mila was very well-behaved. She sat cutely next to Martha, smiled sweetly, and said, âThanks,
Grandma.â
Seeing that Anne was about to return to her room, Martha quickly shouted, âHey, Anne, clean this up.â
Anne nodded, walked over, and began to tidy up the things on the coffee table.
Philip walked down from the second floor and asked, âAnne, did you tidy up the bedrooms this
morning?â
Anne nodded and said, âYes, I did.â
âDid you notice a thumb ring?â Philip continued asking.
Anne looked confused as she shook her head and said, âNo, I didnât. I just did some simple cleaning
up. I didnât touch anything else.â
Philip was puzzled as he turned to leave.
However, Martha stood up immediately and asked nervously, âPhilip, did you lose something?â
Then, she turned around, slapped Anne on her face, pointed at her nose, and cursed, âTell me
honestly, did you steal something? You b*tch, youâre already staying here and living off us, and now
youâre stealing from us? Tell me honestly, or Iâll call the cops to arrest you!â
Anne clutched her cheeks. With tears in her eyes, she stared at Martha incredulously and defended
herself. âI didnât steal anything. I just entered the bedroom to clean up!â
Philip frowned. He did not want to believe that Anne would steal.
However, Martha was adamant. âYou dare to say you didnât? Iâm pretty sure youâre the thief! I saw you
sneaking around this morning. You dare to say you didnât steal anything?â
Mila got a fright.
Mila immediately hugged Anneâs legs, sobbing and speaking up for her, âAnnie isnât a thief. Itâs not her.â
âWhat do you know? Never judge a book by its cover. Sheâs the only outsider in this house. Who else
could it be but her?â
Martha glared at Mila and accused Anne.
âDad, Annie didnât do it. Boohooâ¦â
Mila ran to Philip immediately, clutching at his pants and crying.
With tears pouring down her cheeks, Anne lowered her head, wiped her tears, and whimpered. âI didnât
do it. Youâre maligning me.â
âYou didnât? Fine, letâs search through your room!â
Martha sneered in her heart.
âSearch all you want! I didnât do it!â
Anne was very stubborn, and there was an unyielding expression on her face.
Martha was waiting for this. Without further ado, she led Philip to Anneâs room. She opened the door
and said, âYou refuse to admit it, right? Once we find the ring, youâll get lost from the villa!â
With that said, Martha rushed in first, pretending to look around in circles before she went directly to the
table she had put the ring on earlier. Then, she said loudly, âWhatâs this? Look at this, Philip. Is this it?â
Philip noticed the ring at a glance and frowned deeply.
At this moment, Anne panicked. She cried angrily and sobbed. âI⦠I didnât. Iâm not a thief. I really didnât
do it!â
Anne was aggrieved. She would never do something like stealing.
She felt very upset at being framed like this and cried bitterly without making a sound.
However, Martha cursed gleefully, âYouâre already caught red-handed and you still dare to deny it? Iâll
call the cops to arrest you!â
âMr. Philip, I really didnât do it. I donât even know where this thing was kept.â
Anneâs eyes were already red and swollen.
âWho are you trying to deceive? This ring was in the drawerââ Martha spoke without thinking, but
halfway through that sentence, she quickly covered her mouth!
Philip was startled. He turned around, his eyes filled with chills. Staring at Martha, he asked, âHow do
you know it was in the drawer?â
âThis⦠Isnât it common⦠Where else would you keep it besides in the drawer?â
Martha faltered as she talked and slowly moved toward the door.
âHold it right there!â
Abruptly, Philip shouted angrily. He squeezed the back of Marthaâs neck with his big hands and said
coldly, âMartha Yates, youâre really getting very ballsy. Have you forgotten my warning to you? Do you
really think I canât do anything to you?â
âYou, what are you doing? Are you going to hit me again? Or are you going to kill me?â
Martha also realized that she had let the cat out of the bag, so she spoke fearlessly, âIâm your mother-
in-law!â
âF*ck that bullsh*t! If I donât teach you a good lesson today, my name isnât Philip Clarke!â
Philip roared and slapped Marthaâs face directly!
