Chapter 208
The First Heir
There were all kinds of cold stares and jeers.
This was the so-called gathering. Eventually, it would become a place for flattery and sneers.
This was also why Philip did not want to come.
What kind of gathering was this? It was all fake. The ex-classmates here were all swinging with each
other. In addition to that, the men always tried to curry favors and be posers.
âPhilip, why didnât you tell me that you were coming? I couldâve gone to pick you up. Whatâs wrong?
You didnât come the first two times I asked you but youâre here now when Yolandaâs the one inviting
you. Are you trying to disrespect me?â
Joshua was the one who said that. He stood up and walked over. He placed his arm around Philipâs
shoulder and pretended to be cordial.
Philip looked at him coldly. Had he become so hypocritical now?
When did he invite him?
Was it not Oliver the one who invited him the previous two times?
After walking to the middle of the room, Joshua gave Philip a glass of wine. He said, âCome, itâs such a
rare chance for us to see Philip. Letâs give him a toast. This was the most popular guy in our school
back then!â
Everyone was feeling indifferent about Philip. They heard that he was not doing so well all these years.
He was not as dazzling as he was before.
However, since Joshua had already said that, they all lifted their glasses as they wanted to flatter
Joshua.
Philip chuckled coldly and drank his wine. Then, he sat down at a corner.
However, it was obvious that Joshua would not let go of this rare opportunity.
He hinted at Carl who was sitting at one side and the latter immediately got it. He said loudly, âSay,
Philip, you son of a b*tch. Where have you been all these years? You donât even pick up your phone.
Did you change your number? You didnât come to the gathering when Oliver invited you. Are you not
bothered about your old classmates anymore?â
Carl knew what Joshua wanted. He wanted him to humiliate Philip, or rather, to shame him.
When he said that, everyone started berating Philip.
âYeah, Philip. Are you rich now? Is that why youâre not interested in us anymore?â
âHow can he be rich? I knew he was just playing to the gallery back when we were in university. He has
no genuine talent at all!â
âHehe, Carl, stop making fun of Philip. Who here in this crowd is better than Mr. McAdams?â
Everyone continued to belittle Philip, but at the same time, they did not forget to flatter Joshua.
Joshua sat at his seat while feeling pleased. He lifted his hand and said, âHey, you guys speak too
highly of me. Itâs just a small company.â
However, the smirk on his face betrayed the pride inside his heart.
When he saw Philip sitting at the corner all by himself, Joshua felt extremely pleased.
Back then, Philip was the star while they were all side characters.
Who knew that every dog would have its day. Today, he became the star.
He was pleased with himself. He felt extremely proud!
âHey, Philip, Iâm asking you a question. Why arenât you answering me? Why are you so arrogant?â Carl
was slightly frustrated as he asked coldly.
This idiot was sitting there unperturbed.
Was he looking down on him?
Philip chuckled and said, âItâs nothing. Iâve been really busy these few years, so I didnât have time. I
apologize to everyone here. Plus, Iâm here today, arenât I?â
Philip was clear about what these people were thinking.
He knew how to play these cheap tricks since he was as young as eight years old.
Joshua guffawed and said, âAlright! Itâs difficult for all of us to gather here. We should drink to this!â
After downing his wine, Joshua started causing trouble. He asked, âPhilip, I heard you started a
business after you graduated. Howâs it? Itâs doing well, right?â
Philip shook his head and said, âI failed.â
Carl laughed sarcastically and said, âSo what? Itâs fine. Youâre not made to start businesses anyway.
Right, how are you and Wynn? I heard youâre planning to get a divorce.â
Everyone in the room fell silent after they heard that.
They lifted their ears.
Wynn Johnston. It was such a dreamy name. She used to be the girl of everyoneâs dreams back in
university.
They did not expect her to marry a spineless coward like Philip.
Joshuaâs face fell. He was watching Philipâs every move.
âDonât worry, weâre doing great,â Philip said and smiled.
Carl chuckled perfunctorily.
Joshua said quickly, âWhy didnât you bring her? She was the campus belle. Are you worried about her?
Is that why you didnât bring her here?â
Joshua wanted to see Wynn. He wanted to prove to her that her decision was wrong.
He was even more successful than Philip now.
After being quiet for a while, Philip said, âSheâs busy, so she doesnât have the time.â
Everyone looked at each other and laughed. They were all looking at Philip like they were poking fun at
him.
This guy was such a poser.
He should just admit that they were going through a divorce! What could not be said among friends?
Joshua got up and sat next to Philip. He patted him on the shoulder and said, âI hired someone to find
out about this. Youâre working as a delivery guy now? Why are you doing so badly now?â
It was here. The main question was here!
Philip lifted his eyebrow. He said, âYeah, itâs to make a living. Thereâs nothing bad about working as a
delivery guy. Iâm not like you guys. Youâre all bosses or managers. Iâm so envious.â
Since Joshua wanted to feel superior to him, he would just give it to him. He did not lack that anyway.
Plus, it was meaningless.
Joshua faked a smile and said, âItâs fine. Being a delivery man is a good job. I heard you can earn more
than 10,000 bucks a month if you work hard.â
Philip shrugged. âI guess. Iâm just trying to make ends meet.â
When Carl heard this, he laughed and said, âPhilip, Joshua just started a new company and heâs hiring.
Why donât you consider it? Just tell Josh, Iâm sure he wonât treat you badly.â
Joshua smiled toothily and sat there unperturbed. He sipped on his wine and waited for Philip to beg
him.
How wonderful!
He never expected the day that Philip would come to beg him.
