Chapter 135
The First Heir
After they left the clinic, Wynn brought Philip to a cafe nearby and ordered two cups of coffee.
âPhilip, now that Iâve lost my job, what should we do?â She said worriedly.
Earlier, she had resigned from her job on an impulse. She was beginning to regret it.
Beacon paid her rather well, and they needed money urgently.
Philip shrugged. âDonât worry, Iâm still here. Iâll make sure that you and our daughter wonât starve,â he
said calmly.
âShould I go talk to Chairman Hall?â Wynn asked him, blinking.
That was one of the very few times she asked for Philipâs opinion.
She had this impression that Philip had changed. Somehow, he became more dependable and made
her feel safe.
âI think that your Chairman Hall will give you a call soon. Heâll be begging you to go back to work,â
Philip said calmly.
Wynn was surprised, then rolled her eyes at Philip. âThatâs just your imagination. Didnât you see just
now that I told him I quit in front of his face?
âWhatever. Iâm not going to dwell on it for too long. Iâll just go find another job.â
Philip was silent for a while. âTell me, Wynn, do you like working in that company?â
âI like it. My colleagues are nice to me,â Wynn said.
She continued talking about her experiences in the company.
Philip listened to her attentively. He then excused himself to go to the washroom and made a call there.
Soon, Henry Turnerâs voice was heard over the phone. âWhat can I do for you today, Mr. Clarke?â
âYou can proceed with discussing the collaboration between Turnerâs Hospital and Beacon. Remember,
you only want to negotiate the terms with Wynn Johnston,â Philip said calmly.
âDonât worry, Mr. Clarke. Iâll arrange for that,â Henry said courteously.
After Henry ended the call, he wanted to get one of his subordinates to carry out the order, but after
thinking about it, he decided to give a call himself to the chairman of Beacon Pharmaceutical.
Derrick Hall was currently seething in his office.
His lover was caught in an affair, and the manager of his marketing department had just resigned.
âWhat the hell is going on today?â
At that time, his phone started ringing.
Derrick answered the phone and said angrily, âWho the hell are you? I told you before, no salesmen!
Iâm not interested in buying new houses or personal loans!â
âChairman Hall? Iâm Henry Turner, not a salesman.â A voice boomed over the phone.
Henry Turner?
Derrick sat up in alert. He stood up from his chair and said apologetically, âProf⦠Professor Turner?â
For the past few days, the collaboration between Beacon Pharmaceutical and Turnerâs Hospital was
the only thing in Derrickâs mind.
He could not believe that Professor Henry Turner, the luminary of the medical world, had called him
personally.
âIâm sorry, Iâm so sorry, Professor Turner, I didnât know it was you. Iâve been pestered by salesmen
recently and itâs been driving me crazy,â Derrick explained hastily, âWhy did you call me though,
Professor Turner?â
Henry did not beat around the bush. âAfter doing my research on the various pharmaceutical
companies in Riverdale, Iâve decided that Turnerâs Hospital shall collaborate with Beacon.â
âCollaborate with Beacon?â
Derrick nearly jumped with excitement!
He did not expect that his dream collaboration would fall on his lap.
Was this finally a fortunate turn of events?
âAre you serious, Profession Turner? Are you really going to collaborate with us?â
âOf course, but thereâs a condition to it.â
âJust speak whatever condition you may have. It is my honor to be able to collaborate with Turnerâs
Hospital.â Derrick could not hold back his excitement.
âI can only negotiate the terms of this collaboration with Wynn Johnston from your company, and I can
only sign the contract with her,â Henry said.
âOf course, weâd like to get the contract signed today if possible. Otherwise, we might go and look for
another company.â
âWynn Johnston?â
Derrick was stunned. However, he instantly agreed to it. âAlright, alright, Professor Turner. Iâll inform
Manager Johnston right now.â
After the call ended, Derrick was worried.
âWhy does Henry Turner only want to sign the contract with Wynn?
âUnless⦠he knew Wynn personally?
âOh no!
âWynn had resigned just earlier!â
Sweat streamed down Derrickâs forehead. He quickly gave Wynn a call.
Meanwhile, back in the cafe, Wynnâs phone started ringing just as Philip returned to his seat. She saw
that the call was from Derrick and was reluctant to pick it up.
Philip smiled. âWhy donât you answer it? It might be good news.â
Wynn furrowed her brows but answered the call anyway. âIs there anything else, Chairman Hall?â
âWhere are you, Manager Johnston? Do you think we can meet up and talk?â Derrick sounded
incredibly anxious.
It was a chance in a lifetime to collaborate with Turnerâs Hospital. He did not want to miss the chance.
âIâm sorry, Chairman Hall, but Iâve already resigned from the company,â Wynn said coldly, âThere is
nothing between us to talk anymore.â
Wynn prepared to hang up after saying that.
âDonât, donât! Manager Johnston!â Derrick shouted, âPlease listen to me!
âHow about this, Iâm offering you the post of vice-president. Of course, your salary will be adjusted to fit
your new position too. Iâll also take out one million from my pocket for Milaâs medical funds. How about
that?â Derrick tried to tempt her.
âWhatâs going on, Chairman Hall?â Wynn was surprised.
Derrick became more worried than ever. âHow about this, Manager Johnston. Letâs meet up
somewhere and weâll talk.â
Wynn thought about it for a while and eventually told him where she was. After she ended the call, she
exhaled deliberately, then looked at Philip confusedly. âPhilip, do you know, Derrick is asking me to go
back. He offered the vice presidentâs post to me.â
Philip smiled and pretended to be excited. âThatâs good news! Mila and I will be depending on you from
now on.â
Wynn looked at him with mock anger. âWhy did it turn out that way?â
Philip sipped his coffee.
âDo you want to know?â
