The Spare Wife by Nadia Gordon
Chapter 632 Everything Goes Black Sean glanced at Abigail.
Abigail looked at Lawrence and said softly, âYou may think Iâm heartless, but let me tell you, many children from dysfunctional families have parents like mine. Cutting ties is the only way to make yourself more comfortable.â
She didnât hold onto those outdated beliefs, as she only believed in one thing. âIf you treat me well, Iâll treat you well; if you treat me poorly, donât expect me to show any mercy.â
Emotions were meant to be reciprocal, so why should one side endure the pain and accept moral constraints? And why should the one who hurt others be exempt from moral condemnation just because they have no shame?
What kind of logic was that?
âLife may seem long, but itâs actually short. Itâs most important to be good to yourself,â Abigail continued.
âI know. I will overcome this hurdle,â Lawrence said warmly as he looked at Abigail. âThank you, Abby. I wouldnât have been able to hold on without you today.â
âHave you eaten yet?â Abigailâs voice softened.
âNot yet...â Lawrence replied. Their house was in a mess, and their long-time housekeeper had left today because she couldnât bear it anymore.
They came back from work to find an empty house with nothing prepared for dinner, and then Molly showed up with a group of people who caused a scene.
Abigail looked at Sean.
âIâm a decent cook. If you and Mrs. Pearson donât mind, I can show you what I can do,â Sean said as he rolled up his sleeves.
âForget it, weâll just order takeout. You just arrived today, and you must be tired.â Lawrence shook his head.
âIâm not tired,â Sean immediately replied.
Today, Lawrenceâs words made him feel guilty. He felt guilty toward Abigail, and he thought that no matter how good he was to her now, it couldnât make up for the past hurt.
âLet him give it a try,â she said with a smile. It was the first time she had shown such an expression at home.
Lawrence and Scarlett could only agree.
1/3 Abigail followed Sean into the kitchen and asked, âAre you okay? You look tired.â
âWhatâs the big deal about cooking a meal? You can go and sit outside.â Sean pushed her out of the kitchen.
âI can help, too,â Abigail said.
âI only remember your kitchen mishap. I donât know if you can be of any help,â he said helplessly as he looked at her.
Abigail felt a bit embarrassed when she thought about the time she accidentally knocked over a pot in the kitchen.
âAlright, then Iâll leave the kitchen to you.â
Sean nodded.
Abigail returned to the living room and saw Lawrence and Scarlett quietly wiping away their tears. She walked over and handed them tissues.
The pain that parents bring to their children is only known by the children themselves.
Lawrence took the tissues and looked at Abigail with embarrassment. âI made you witness a joke.â
âThis is not a joke. No matter how old a person is, the bond between parents will never change. Which child doesnât want their parents to love them forever?â Abigail said gently.
When he heard this, Lawrenceâs eyes became even redder.
Scarlett held him tightly. âItâs okay...
While they were talking, they heard the sound of plates breaking in the kitchen. Lawrence and Scarlett hurriedly looked over.
2 âIâll go check it out.â Abigail immediately turned and walked toward the kitchen.
Sean was already squatting on the floor as he picked up the broken pieces.
Abigail walked up to him and asked worriedly, âWhat happened?â
âI accidentally broke it,â he replied.
She had seen him cook many times, and he had never been like this before, so she frowned and looked at Sean. âLet me help you.â
âItâs fine; you donât have to worry about me,â Sean continued.
Abigail noticed that his face was a bit pale. She stopped talking and started picking up the pieces for him.
2/3 The moment Sean stood up, everything went black before his eyes. If Abigail hadnât thrown away the broken pieces and held onto him, he would have fallen.
не âWhatâs wrong with you?â Abigail asked as she held Sean.
It took Sean a while to react. He smiled bitterly and leaned against Abigail. âI donât know. I felt dizzy and lightheaded suddenly. Iâll go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow.â
Abigail guessed that it was probably because he was seriously injured in the Golden Triangle and was left with some aftereffects.
The two of them finished cooking together, and Sean was already too tired to stay awake.
Abigail glanced at him and couldnât help but say, âWould you consider taking a nap first and eating after youâve rested?â
Sean simply lay down on the couch. âI think itâs better for me to take a nap.â
He indeed felt like his body weighed a thousand pounds, and something was definitely not right.
He lay down and immediately fell asleep.
Abigail stood beside the couch as she looked at the exhaustion on his face and suddenly understood that Sean was no longer the same as before. His body had suffered severe injuries in the Golden Triangle.
âAbby, letâs eat first,â Scarlett whispered.
Abigail returned to the dining table but couldnât eat much.
âSeanâs body is not as strong as before, right?â Lawrence asked Abigail in a low voice.
She nodded. âYes, it seems so. Weâll have to go to the hospital for a detailed examination.â
âI shouldnât have said those words today. He has done so much for you and Luna, yet I hurt him with my thoughtless remarks.â
Lawrence regretted his emotional outburst today as he realized how inappropriate and hurtful his words were.
