Chapter 129
The Spare Wife by Nadia Gordon
Chapter 129 The Defeated Sean Sean pressed his lips tightly together, his eyes locked onto Abigail. Impatiently, she looked at him. âIf youâve run the background check, bring that damn doctor to Grandma, and everything will be resolved.â
âGrandma is in the hospital, and you didnât even go to see her. I called you, and it was all in vain,â he replied.
As she stood up, she said in a cold voice, âDo you think sheâd want to see me? Because of the doctor she found, I almost died. If you donât explain it to her, she will always hold on to the fact that I tattled to you and constantly go against me. Tell me, am I not wronged?â Without giving him a chance to speak, she continued, âYou never address the conflicts in our family; you never try to resolve them. When something goes wrong, you blame me. What does it take for her to admit the doctor was the problem? My life?â
âWatch your words.â He restrained his anger.
âThink about who started it. Sheâs old, but that doesnât mean I must endure the harm she caused 1. You knew perfectly well regarding my situation, yet you came here to accuse me. Do you have the right?â After finishing her words, she sat down, forcefully opened a book, and continued to read.
Suddenly, he reached out to hold her hand. âCome with me to the hospital to see Grandma. Iâll talk to her myself.â
âYou can go with Joan. I gotta make a living.â She shrugged off his hand, showing no compassion whatsoever.
âAbigail-â
âGet out. I donât wanna put up with this. My grandma plans to leave, but I donât want her to. Itâs perfect timing that this came. She can stay to take care of me. Let me tell you, even if your grandma doesnât consider me family, I have one who genuinely cares about me,â she said with teary eyes.
âIn that case, Iâll go to the hospital with your grandma.â He turned and left.
âAre you out of your mind?â At once, Abigail stood up firmly, making the chair slide away from her and stop by the window, spinning.
Sean looked calmly at her. âAre you coming with me or not?â
She bit her lip, then suddenly slammed the pen on the table and turned to the wardrobe to get some clothes.
As they left the room, Analise watched them with caution.
âGrandma, Iâm going out with him to take care of some matters. If you get hungry, go ahead and eat. Iâll eat when I come back,â
Abigail told her.
At that, Analise nodded and softly advised, âYou need to have a better temper and not always trigger people, understand?â
âI know,â Abigail mumbled in response.
After getting into Seanâs car, she seemed quite eager to witness the drama at the hospital. Before long, the car stopped at the downtown hospital. As soon as she got out of the car, he held her hand.
âLetâs go.â
She followed him obediently, her face expressionless.
When they were just a few steps away from Cornelicâs ward, Scan suddenly heard Joanâs high-
pitched laughter. âMr. Stewart, youâre quite the comedian. You even made Grandma laugh.â
Cornelieâs laughter could also be heard from inside.
When Sean, holding Abigailâs hand, appeared at the door, all three of them were stunned. Instantly, Kevin felt pins and needles on his scalp. He quickly put his legs down from where he had them propped up and jumped up from the corner of the bed. âWhy didnât you give me a heads-up before you came, Sean?â
As Sean walked in, he looked at Joan and spoke coldly, âWho told you to come?â
Abigail stood by the door, a hint of sarcasm on her lips.
Meanwhile, Cornelie put on a stern expression. âWhy canât she? I asked her to. What about it?â As she said that, she looked at Abigail. âWhy did you bring her here? I feel sick seeing her.â
At that moment, Sean cast an indifferent glance at Kevin, who hurriedly said to the embarrassed Joan, âLetâs head out first, Miss Palmer. They need to discuss family matters.â
âWhy canât Joan stay? She is family to me,â Cornelie said, holding Joanâs hand.
Seeing that, Abigail said indifferently, âAlright, have a good chat as a family. I havenât had dinner yet, so Iâll pop back home.â
âWhat nonsense are you talking about?â Sean turned to look at her.
Swiftly, Kevin grabbed Joan and left the room. She looked pitifully at Sean but suddenly felt intense pressure from his gaze. Not daring to say much, she could only lower her gaze and quickly follow Kevin out.
As Abigail was pushed into the ward by Kevin, the door closed behind them. Sean looked at Cornelie and said, âYou did something wrong. Do you know that?â
âI didnât. I intend to make you divorce her,â Cornelie said calmly. âShe canât have children, but we Grahams have supported her for three years. Weâve done our duty.â
âThe doctor you found pricked her and almost took her life. If I hadnât intervened, the Quinns wouldâve come after you for their granddaughter,â Sean calmly explained, sitting by her side.
âItâs all an act that only you believe! Something like that is simply impossible. Do you think Iâve become old, so Iâm easy to deceive?â she immediately refuted, showing no signs of being swayed.
âIf I bring that doctor-â
âYou donât need to bring him. You have a tremendous ability to twist the truth, and I know that well.â She interrupted him, refusing to believe anything. âShe canât have children, so you must divorce her unless you want me to die in this hospital.â
Seeing the defeated Sean, Abigail suddenly felt in a good mood.
