Chapter 67.2
Mob Protagonist ~ Mob in the Novel But There is a Problem
Chapter 67.2. Masatoshi Realizes How Bad The Reality Is
-Masatoshiâs POV-
âChichichichi!â
With a howl, the scissors mantis swung its scythe in a sharp movement, as if coming to its senses, then flipping one, two, and [Prism Crimson]. However, it could only pop two magic missiles that flew at high speed. The remaining three shots hit its body and dug into its torso.
The red crystal deeply embedded in its torso, spewed out flames from within, quickly turning the scissors mantis into burning charcoal.
With a roar, flames swirled. And when the scissors mantisâ body gets burned, it charred black and fell.
[Go back â¦â¦ ugh!]
Masatoshi tries to bring the crystal back, but his concentration runs out, and the magic dissolves. The crystal disappeared as if melting, and [Prism Crimson] was deactivated.
âI still have to train this magicâ¦â
Concentrating, feeling a throbbing headache, Masatoshi staggered closer to the collapsed Mion.
Approaching the fallen Mion, he sits up and picks her up.
âHaâ¦â¦ right, I knew it.â
.
Mion was dead. Her pupils are dilated, and sheâs not breathing. He still feels body heat, but she doesnât move. Her body had been slashed, or cut in half. The hand that he held was sticky with blood.
âItâs not going to be as convenient as in the novel.â
Masatoshi thought that perhaps Mion was still alive. He hoped that maybe because she had a hunk of roast beef in her pocket, the scissors mantis only cut the beef, and Mion was fine. He hoped something like that happened, just like in the novel.
As is often the case, the coin was in peopleâs breast pockets, preventing bullets. A magazine was in peopleâs stomachs, so the knife didnât stick, and so on.
But Mion was dead, and her roast beef cut in half.
âHaha, Iâm not the protagonist. Iâmâ¦â
A protagonist and heroine would have had such a development, but they are the mob. There was no way such a development could have occurred.
Masatoshi hangs his head down. He wishes he had behaved more decently, but heâs just a mob. He drops his tears, thinking this is the extent of his behavior.
But there was still salvation.
âMhmm, sheâs still alive, huh.â
âWhoâre you?
A voice called out to the crying Masatoshi. He looked up in a panic to see a small, robed figure standing next to him before he knew it, moving around to check their surroundings.
âSheâs still alive!â
âHuh? Sheâs dead no matter how you look at it!â
âA magician, sure theyâre. But magic works to commoners directly.â
The small person holds out their tiny hand to Masatoshi, who frowns, wondering what he means.
[Area Minor Heal II]
A pure white magic circle is drawn on the ground with a poof, and light envelops the fallen people. After the white light enveloped the peopleâs bodies, a startling sight awaited them.
âHey! What the hell?â
The bodies of those people he thought to be dead had no scars left, and the only signs of injury were blood and torn clothes. However, even if they healed the wounds now, they would still be dead.
âKehoh, kehoh.â
He heard Mionâs cough as he held her up, and hurriedly turned his head. He saw a scowling Mion.
âAh, something tastes like ironâ¦â¦ What is it?â
âHuh? Huh? They came back to life?â
He asks the small person in disbelief. He looked around and saw that the people around him had also come back to life and were touching their bodies in wonder. All of them seemed to have been healed.
âThe body was still alive, you know. If theyâre a magician, their body will completely die before they get healed because of their resistance, but commoners can fully recover even with this level of magic. No one seems to be dead, which is good.â
With a shrug of his shoulders, the small one informs us. Masatoshi doesnât know who the small personâs because theyâre wearing a mask, sunglasses, and a deep hood, but heâs satisfied theyâre correct.
Perhaps it means that those commoners were physically alive for a few minutes. Magicians couldnât get healed of their wounds because of their resistance, but commoners without resistance could get healed of their wounds. It means if healers heal them before they die as a physical body, theyâll come back to life.
Theoretically, he understands it, but itâs truly [magic]. After looking at the small person, Masatoshi was once again amazed at how amazing magic was. Then the small person turned their head backward.
âWell, I still have some work to do. See you.â
Hundreds of scissors mantis were approaching them from behind. The small person had disappeared before long.
Then, when they appeared behind the scissors mantis ahead of them, they slit the scissors mantisâ necks and disappeared again. Then they seemed to disappear, and before long, they moved on and defeated the scissors mantis and the other scissors mantis.
âOh, you saved me?â
âNo, Iâm just thanking â¦. for â¦. the pizza. I didnât help.â
Masatoshi answered honestly to Mionâs awkward question.
