Chapter 739
Betrayal At the Altar by Dolores Delia
Chapter 739 Obviously, she was insinuating that Rachelâs words had no basis.
Rachel was quibbling and lying!
Landon could not stand watching Georgia make a bigger fool of herself because of her ignorance. Finally, he sighed softly and said, âMiss Grey is telling the truth. Not only can I testify to that, but so can Jimmy.â
Hearing this, Georgia turned to look at Landon in disbelief.
She could not understand what sort of charm Rachel had that Georgiaâs brother, Landon, would speak up for her.
She bit her lips, her reddened eyes gradually becoming wet with tears.
Jimmy coughed softly and glanced blandly at Georgia. âI didnât expect such a big misunderstanding to happen just because of one sentence. However, Georgia, you were indeed in the wrong this time for taking things out of context before figuring out the actual situation. Besides, how could David not know if Rachel has been married before?â
If he wanted to learn the truth, a man of Davidâs abilities and cunning would discover it eventually.
At this point, the dumbfounded Thomas also figured out the whole story in his mind.
Georgia had accidentally overheard Rachelâs conversation with the rest. Upon hearing the word âmarriedâ, she erroneously concluded that Rachel was hiding a past marriage and had deliberately seduced David in an attempt to rise above her station in life.
Unexpectedly, Rachel had only been almost married once. Not only did Jimmy and Landon know about this, but even David was aware.
She had nothing to hide at all.
Georgia looked as if she had been struck by lightning. She was in a daze.
Her throat felt dry and tense. She opened her mouth and said with difficulty, âAll... all of you already knew that she almost married someone?â
âThatâs right,â Jimmy replied, extinguishing the last bit of hope in Georgiaâs heart. âThereâs still a difference between marrying someone and almost marrying someone. Besides, regardless of whether she has been married before, as long as both parties are willing to move past that, even the heavens couldnât stop them, right?â
His words implied that Georgia had broken the rules tonight and said something she should not have.
Even worse, she had schemed against Rachel and humiliated her in public.
Since the situation had been cleared up, Rachel no longer had the patience to continue putting up with Georgia.
She plucked the bowstring with her fingertips. âLetâs get back to our conversation, Miss Walker. Itâs time for you to face your punishment.â
Georgia came to her senses and looked at the bow and arrow in Rachelâs hand. A hint of panic appeared in her eyes. âI... I...
David, I might have erred in this matter, but you shouldnât indulge her like this...â
David stood beside Rachel and held her hand tightly. When he heard Georgiaâs words, he frowned and said impatiently, âWhat are you waiting for? Bring her over!â
At his command, Billy and Chris stepped forward at the same time. They grabbed hold of Georgia and steered her towards the bullseye in the distance.
This time, Georgia lost her composure completely. Giving no thought to her elegance, she struggled with all her might and yelled, âLet go of me! Let go of me!â
However, her strength was nothing compared to that of the two martial artists.
Seeing that she was about to be dragged away, Georgia grabbed Landonâs sleeve when she passed by him as if she was holding onto her last hope. âLandon! Landon! Save me!â
It would be a lie to say that she was not afraid.
She thought she could easily win against Rachel but lost utterly instead.
Even if she lost, Georgia had hoped that with Landon protecting her, and his years of interaction with David, Rachel would not dare to punish her.
However, things werenât as simple as she thought.
Not only did David disregard his years of friendship with Landon, but he also refused to give the Walker family any face. Even her brother, who had always doted on her, chose to watch coldly from the sidelines.
How could Georgia accept this?
The bow and arrows were under Rachelâs control. Georgia prayed that the other woman was somehow a skilled archer.
Otherwise, an accident might happen, and she might lose her life!
Tears welled up in Georgiaâs eyes as she tugged at Landonâs sleeve. âLandon, please try and persuade David. As long as you speak...â
âMiss Walker!â Rachel interrupted her coldly. She placed an arm on Davidâs shoulder and leaned against him lazily. âIf you agree to bet, you must be willing to accept defeat. Donât embarrass the Walker family if you canât afford to play.â
These words were not only a reminder, but also a warning to Georgia.
If Georgia continued to beg, it would only put Landon in a dilemma.
Moreover, they had placed a bet beforehand. Now that Georgia had lost, she wanted to back out. If this matter spread, it would only embarrass the Walker family.
Looking at Rachel lying in Davidâs arms and openly enjoying his attention, Georgia was once again overwhelmed by jealousy.
âShut up! Who are you to educate me?â
âYouâre the one who should shut up!â Landon reprimanded coldly.
His eyes flickered with a terrifying coldness under his glasses. He forcefully pushed Georgiaâs hand away and said frostily, âTake her away!â
At that, Billy and Chris dragged Georgia straight to the bullseye without any hesitation.
âLet go of me! Billy Jones, Chris Jones! You two are just Davidâs lapdogs. What right do you have to...â
Before Georgia could finish her sentence, she heard a swoosh.
An arrow was shot through the air to land 0.5 inches away from her.
She could even hear the sharp arrowhead piercing through the bullseye.
Georgia felt as though her heart was leaping out of her chest.
The circulation in her body seemed to have stopped, and her breath seemed to have slowed down tremendously. All she could hear in her ears was her drum-like heartbeat.
Georgia stood rooted to the ground in a daze, swallowing her saliva and breathing heavily. She wanted to struggle, but her entire body was so stiff that she could not move.
Seeing her pale face, Chrisâs eyes flashed with mockery. He weighed the red apple in his hand and gently placed it on Georgiaâs head. Unable to resist the chance to tease her, he said, âMiss Walker, make sure to keep still. You canât blame anyone else if the arrow accidentally pierces your vital organs.â
Georgia slowly came back to her senses and glared at him fiercely. She gritted her teeth and spat, âWho the hell do you think you are?â
The night second, another arrow shot through the air like lightning and flew straight at her.
Georgiaâs pupils constricted, her breathing and heartbeat slowing to a halt. When the arrow brushed past her hair and struck the bullseye behind her head, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and her limbs went limp uncontrollably.
Another two arrows grazed Georgiaâs neck and ears, but neither hit her. However, she had utterly lost her mind by then.
âR... Rachel Grey...â Georgiaâs breathing was shallow, as though she was a survivor who had clawed her way back from the brink of death.
She took a deep breath and gathered all her strength, then shouted at Rachel, âIf you dare to hurt me in the slightest, the Walker family will not let you off!â
